Neil Young - Living with War

 Living With War is the 27th studio album by the Canadian musician Neil Young, released on May 2, 2006. The album's lyrics, titles, and conceptual style are highly critical of the policies of the George W. Bush administration; the CTV website defined it as "a musical critique of U.S. President George W. Bush and his conduct of the war in Iraq". Written and recorded over the course of only nine days in March and April 2006,^[1][9] its lyrics are in line with the early 1960s albums of folk artists such as Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan, although they are set to what Young calls "metal folk protest music" courtesy of Young, bassist Rick Rosas, drummer Chad Cromwell and trumpet player Tommy Bray.

The rhythm section of Cromwell and Rosas and Young's "Volume Dealers" co-producer Niko Bolas were also at the core of Young's 1989 album Freedom, which contained an angry criticism of Reagan-George H. W. Bush America. There are other links between the albums: Bray also performed on Freedom and Freedom's hit single "Rockin' in the Free World" also contained a quotation of a President Bush: "a thousand points of light".



Looking for a Leader

 The sessions were recorded on 16-track analog tape and mixed to a half-inch analog two-track master, then transferred to high-resolution digital media for CD and DVD manufacturing.^[1] The vinyl pressing was on 200 g discs.



Let,s impeach the president.

 On April 28, 2006, the album was given a pre-release premiere in its entirety on the Los Angeles radio station KLOS (95.5) by Jim Ladd. The album was released onto the Internet on May 2, 2006, before entering retail in May 2006. Young has expressed that his intent is that the work be considered as a whole, and the streaming-audio internet release was the whole album, rather than individually selectable songs.

Blue City is a 1986 American drama film directed by Michelle Manning and starring Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and David Caruso. It is based on Ross Macdonald's 1947 novel of the same name about a young man who returns to a corrupt small town in Florida to avenge the death of his father.

Van Morrison - Street of Arklow ( Berkley 12 sept.2006)

 Veedon Fleece is the eighth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, released in October 1974 (see 1974 in music). Morrison recorded the album shortly after his divorce from wife Janet (Planet) Rigsbee. With his broken marriage in the past, Morrison visited Ireland on holiday for new inspiration, arriving on 20 October 1973 (with his fiancee at the time, Carol Guida). While there he wrote—in fewer than three weeks—the songs included on the album (except "Bulbs", "Country Fair" and "Come Here My Love").^[2]


"Streets of Arklow" is a song by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It appears on the album Veedon Fleece, released in 1974.
The song describes a perfect day in "God's green land" and is a tribute to the Wicklow town of Arklow visited during the singer's 1973 vacation trip back to Ireland after being in the United States since 1967.

Bill Withers - Kissing My Love (Beatclub 1972)

William Harrison "Bill" Withers, Jr. (born July 4, 1938) is an American singer-songwriter and musician who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985.He recorded several major hits, including "Lean on Me", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Use Me", "Just the Two of Us", "Lovely Day", and "Grandma's Hands". Withers won three Grammy Awards and was nominated for four more. His life was the subject of the 2009 documentary film Still Bill. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.^[2]

Bob Dylan - Pepsi Arena N.Y 20-07-1999

In 1965 ging Bob Dylan ,,elektrisch,, tot ontzetting van veel zijn trouwe fans.
Ik zelf had er absoluut geen moeite mee,in mijn opinie werd zijn muziek er alleen maar door in een breder perspectief getrokken .Met als gevolg vele prachtige concerten en vele mooie albums tot gevolg.
In 2000 was er echter een omslag die ik veel minder leuk vond.Was er tijden zijn concerten altijd nog ruimte voor een akoestische set ,werd dit na dit jaar steeds minder.Om voor mij onbegrijpelijke redenen(reuma?) werd de gitaar aan de wilgen en stapte Bob over op de keyboards(meestal niet te horen)Dit is nog een concert met Bob op gitaar.

"My Back Pages" is een Bob Dylan song van het album Another Side of Bob Dylan (1964).



"Mama, You Been on My Mind" is a song by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Written in 1964 during a trip to Europe, the song dealt with his recent breakup with his girlfriend, Suze Rotolo. Dylan first recorded the song in June of that year during a session for his album Another Side of Bob Dylan. However, the song was not included on the album, and Dylan's version remained unreleased until 1991. In total, in the 1990s and 2000s four versions were put out on Dylan's Bootleg Series of releases, including two live performances with Joan Baez from 1964 and 1975.

Veel mooie festivals meegemaakt,maar het JazzFestival in Bilzen behoort toch zeker tot de allermooiste.Het hele festival gebeuren stond nog in zijn kinderschoenen,van securety en al dat soort dingen had nog niemand gehoord,de artiesten waren nog gewoon aanspreekbaar,en zo kon het ook gebeuren dat we tijdens optredens van The Move,Small Faces,Cuby onze eigen Dragonfly niet voor,maar op het podium stonden,onvergeteljk!
De editie,s ,68/,69/,70 hadden een schitterende line-up met artiesten als The Pebbles,Tyrannosaures Rex,The Move,ThePretty Things,St Giles System(met collega Onnie op de bas)Ferre Gringard,Cuby,The Small Faces,Alexis Korner(1968)

Taste - Blister on the Moon Jazz Bilzen (1969)

Taste ("The Taste") opgericht in Cork, Ireland in Augustus 1966 met Rory Gallagher op gitaar en zang , Eric Kitteringham op bass, en Norman Damery op drums.In hun beginjaren speelden ze al in Hamburg toerde in door Ireland en waren vaste gasten in het Maritime Hotel, een R&B club in Belfast, Northern Ireland.


Taste -Sugar Mama Jazz Bilzen(1969)

In 1968 begon Taste op te treden in de UK in een nieuwe bezettting . De band toen,Rory ,Richard McCracken op bass en John Wilson, drums. speelde regelmatig in London en tekenden een contract bij Polydor. Later dat jaar toerde Taste door de United States en Canada met Blind Faith. In April 1969, kwam Taste,s eerste van hun twee studio albums uit ,,Taste,,spoedig gevolg door ,,On the Boards,, een album met wat jazzinvloeden ,mede omdat Rory op een paar tracks de saxofoon hanteert.In november 1969 speelt de band in het voorprogramma van Cream tijdens hun farewell concerts.

In 1970 speelde de band samen met o.a Jimi hendrix en The Who op het beroemdeIsle of Wight Festival (prachtige film).Er volgende nog een toer door Europa maar het was hun laatste toernee .Rory koos voor een solo carriere (en wat voor een!)Het laatse optreden van Taste vond plaats op New Year's Eve in Belfast.

Holland International Bluesfestival (Day 2 June 4th 2016)

Dag 2 van het festival begint met een weerzien van veel bekenden in het bekende cafe Hofsteenge.
Nadat de laatste nieuwtjes zijn uitgewisseld ,op weg naar de grote tent ,het festival kan beginnen.

Robert Randolph  en zijn band zag ik al eerder op het Peer Bluesfestival .soul /funk met af en toe een vleugje blues.Uitstekende band ,goed begin van dag 2

Supersonic Blues Machine was de vervanger van Jimmy Vaughan die zijn Europese tour had afgezegd .Geweldige keuze van de organsatoren,mede door de gastopredens van Walter Trout,Robben Ford en Billy Gibbons.Wat was het mooi om weer een topfitte en vrolijke Walter Trout na zijn ernstige ziekte weer aan het werk te zien,Ondanks een haperende apparatuur schitterend gitaarwerk,hij kan het nog steeds.

De inbreng van Robben Ford vond ik niet zo geweldig,dat in tegensteling tot Billy Gibbons.
Allemaal de zonnebril op ,Texas blues op zijn best .mooi optreden helaas beperkt tot maar twee nummertjes.

De Tedeschi Trucks Band was een van de redenen om naar Grolloo af te reizen.Het was de tweede keer dat ik ze in aktie zag,eerder dit jaar zag ik al een prachtig concert van de band in Tivoli/Vredeburg. Ze maakten het deze keer ook weer volledig waar,prachtig zang van Susan en bloedstollende solo,s van Derek.Dat alles begeleid door een geweldige band.

Twee prachtige optredens achter de rug,tijd voor een hapje en een drankje .Ik was niet de enige met dat idee ,zodat ik het begin van het Bonnie Raitt concert miste.
Twee jaar geleden zag ik Bonnie nog op het North Sea Festival,mooi optreden.Maar deze keer klonk toch nog beter,mede door het prachtige zaal/tent geluid.,Complimenten voor de geluidsmensen!

De setlist is een doorsnede van haar uitgebreide repertoire.Oud en nieuw werk.Tussendoor natuurlijk een paar politieke statements Ze speelt al haar vroege en recente hits. Zoals bekend schuwt Raitt de politieke statements niet. “Even weg van het politieke circus in de VS”, verzucht ze.Een van de hoogtepunten was ook het optreden van organist Mike Finnigan .een prachtige blues ,opgedragen aan BB King met Bonnie op gitaar .

Tijdens de toegift worden ook Susan Tedeschi en Derek Trucks op het podium gevraagd.
Dan volg het prachtige John Prine nummer "Angel From Montgomery"een van mijn favoriete nummers in de uitvoering van Bonnie Raitt.

Wat een mooie afsluiting van een geweldig festival.Alle lof voor de organisatoren en indien mogelijk ben ik volgend jaar zeker weer van de partij.Natuurlijk was er ook nog een nabespreking in Cafe Hofsteenge ,met bitterballen(Thanks Nicolette)!! Het bleef nog lang onrustig in Grolloo............

"Listen to the Lion" is a song featured on Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison's sixth album, Saint Dominic's Preview (1972)
The song was first recorded during the sessions for Morrison's third solo album Moondance in 1969 but not used. The longer eleven minute version that is featured on the Saint Dominic's Preview album was recorded during the 1971 sessions at the Columbia Studios in San Francisco and intended for the album Tupelo Honey.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Lokerse Feesten ( August 5th-2014)

 Een mooie zwoele zomeravond en Neil Young & Crazy Horse op het podium,er zijn mindere avonden te bedenken.Met de programmering van de Lokerse Feesten is er over het algemeen niks mee,zag er al prachtige optreden van o.a Jackson Brown,Robert Plant ,Van Morrison Voor de 40ste editie hadden de organisatoren diep in de buidel getast,desondanks was de avond al maanden van tevoren uitverkocht.(150000  tickets)

Neil en The Horse stelden niet teleur.Opkomen even een korte groet naar het publiek,inpluggen en spelen.Lange versie van Down By The River gevolg door Powderfinger,de toon was gezet. Crazy Horse speelde met bassist Rick Rosas in de gelederen .Hij verving de door een beroerte getroffen Billy Talbot. Rick speelde al eerder  meerdere malen mee in de bands van Neil Young.Helaas zou later blijken dat het de laatste tour met Neil Young zou zijn.In November overleed Rick Rosas.Rick "Rick the Bass Player" Rosas R.I.P

 De setlist is toch wel verrassend ,het orgeltje van Like A Hurricane hangt hoog in de lucht.Maar als het naar beneden komt geen Hurricane maar Livin With War,ook mooi.

 Onverwacht een uitvoeing Name Of Love (uit het tijdperk met Crosby, Stills & Nash) Blowin’ In The Wind (van Dylan). En natuurlijk  Heart Of Gold  ,massaal meegezongen

  Het optreden in Lokeren is vooral degelijk en onderhoudend, met de muzikale hoogtepunten vooraan in de set. Het dak mag er uiteindelijk nog even af bij een van zijn minste (maar wel meest populaire) songs: Rockin’ In The Free World. Young geniet en incasseert de bijval na ruim tweeënhalf uur glunderend vanonder zijn hoed. In de toegift mag hij nog even preken en ach, waarom zou die boodschap van Who’s Gonna Stand Up And Safe The Earth niet gemeend zijn? Bovendien blijft vooral zijn lang uitgesponnen gitaarspel – wars van tijd, trends of andere vluchtigheden – een verademing.(OOR)
