"Almost Cut My Hair" is a song by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, originally released on the band's 1970 album Déjà Vu.^[1] It was recorded at Wally Heider Studios on January 9, 1970
 

The song describes a real-life dilemma faced by many hippies: whether to cut one's hair to a more practical length, or leave it long as a symbol of rebellion. It was written by David Crosby, and features solo vocals by Crosby, with the rest of the band joining in on instruments rather than on vocal harmony, as in many of their other songs. Unlike most of the tracks on Déja Vu, the quartet and their studio musicians, Dallas Taylor (drums) and Greg Reeves (bass), all recorded it at the same place and time.^] It was one of only two songs from the album that Neil Young joined in on, despite not writing

It became one of Crosby's signature songs, and "probably his most important political song". Crosby himself stated "It was the most juvenile set of lyrics I've ever written ... but it has a certain emotional impact, there's no question about that."

                                 "Change Partners" is a song written by Stephen Stills that was released on his 1971 album Stephen Stills 2. It was also released as the debut single from the album Stephen Stills 2

Stills said "it was about growing up in the south, attending the debutante balls, but Graham likes to refer to it as the Crosby, Stills & Nash theme song, which I suppose it is". Graham Nash has said he feels it's about the constantly changing relationships in CSNY. Jerry Garcia performs the pedal steel guitar played throughout the song.^[3] One version was recorded at Olympic Studios in London for the recording of his debut solo album, Stephen Stills.^[3] This version was released on Stills 2013 box set Carry On. The version released on Stephen Stills 2 was recorded in early 1971 at Criteria Studios, Miami, and featured Graham Nash, David Crosby, photographer Henry Diltz, and Fred Neil on backing vocals.

The personality clashes between Stills and Young were the most publicized of all and had been going on since the Buffalo Springfield days, so when Neil Young walks out to join the other three, the crowd goes nuts. The musical chemistry between Stills and Young had always been undeniable, but many believed they'd never see the two on the same stage again, so this was indeed a monumental moment

                                                                     New Mama 

Young was just about to release his controversial Time Fades Away album, but in typically unexpected style proceeds to play nothing from this album, instead performing three new songs, "Roll Another Number," "Human Highway," and "New Mama." The middle song was rumored to be the title song of a potential third CSN&Y project, while the other two would be destined for Tonight's The Night, an album that wouldn't see the light of day until June of 1975.

Towards the end of an album (Tonight's the Night) that is filled with either scathing or ironic songs about drugs, "New Mama" gives the listener a bit of a break, with one of the prettiest folk-based melodies that Neil Young has ever written. The sense of hope and looking forward is a left turn for the album as well. Stephen Stills cut a fine version of this on his Illegal Stills album in 1976.

                                       Fillmore East was rock promoter Bill Graham's rock venue on Second Avenue near East 6th Street in the (at the time) Lower East Side neighborhood, now called the East Village neighborhood of the borough of Manhattan of New York City. It was open from March 8, 1968 to June 27, 1971 and featured some of the biggest acts in rock music at the time. The Fillmore East was a companion to Graham's Fillmore Auditorium, and its successor, the Fillmore West, in San Francisco, Graham's home base.

 Crosby explained to Mojo magazine January 2008 that this song about an invisible, ruling elite is still just as relevant today: "I think that particular tune has lasted well because it's still true. We don't know who the people are who are running the planet. There is still a feeling they are in charge and we are not and we don't know who they are. We don't know where they go to school or if they even care about, say, seagulls, or if they ever liked a puppy or if they hate humans. We don't know anything about them."

  Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead, Michael Shreve the drummer for Santana and Neil Young all have co-writing credits on this track. Many of the leading lights of San Francisco's music scene were used by Crosby on the album. In the same interview he explained how this came about: "They were my friends. That was who I was close with, I think a lot of it had to do with Jerry (Garcia). He was there almost every night, as was Graham Nash. And the 2 of them really cared about this record."

Recorded before the release of Crosby’s album, “If I Could Only Remember My Name”, this set comes from a short stint at the Matrix in SF in 1970.  “David & the Dorks” was the name they played under for this gig.

If I Could Only Remember My Name is the debut solo album by David Crosby, released in February 1971 on Atlantic Records. It was one of four high-profile albums released by each member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in the wake of their chart-topping Déjà Vu album (along with Stephen Stills, Songs for Beginners, and After the Gold Rush). It peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200. It has been in print continuously since its initial release. CSN&Y - Bill Graham Memorial Concert The Polo Field, Golden Gate Park San Francisco, CA 1991-11-03 (fixed,update)

 

 From the first public Mime Troupe events in 1965 to his untimely death in 1991, Bill Graham set the standard for excellence in concert presentations and in doing so, redefined the art of communication for an entire generation. To honor Bill Graham, Steve Kahn and Melissa Gold, the Bill Graham Presents staff organized a free concert in Golden Gate Park for Sunday, November 3, 1991. Mother Nature cooperated and provided a comfortable and cloudless day as 300,000 people gathered in the Polo Field of Golden Gate Park. Sad circumstances aside, it was truly a celebration of Graham's life, filled with Laughter, Love, and Music.

 A memorial service, called 'Laughter, Love & Music', was held for Graham, Gold, and Kahn, at the Polo Fields in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park on November 3rd, 1991, attracting a crowd of 350,000, one of the biggest crowds the park had ever seen.  Many of the bands Graham had been instrumental in supporting played the venue, Santana, a reunited Journey, Los Lobos, a reunited CSNY, the Dead (with guests John Fogerty, John Popper and Neil Young), Robin Williams, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Bobby McFerrin, Jackson Browne, Joe Satriani with Randy Jackson, Tracy Chapman, Aaron Neville with Evylyn Cisneros of the SF Ballet, and Joan Baez.

Some Bay Area residents still refer to the crash as "the Night the Music Died."

Bill Graham (January 8, 1931 – October 25, 1991) was an American impresario and rock concert promoter from the 1960s until his death in 1991 in a helicopter crash. He fled from Germany and, in 1941, from France to escape the Holocaust. At age ten he settled in a foster home in the Bronx, New York. Graham graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School and from City College with a business degree.
In the early 1960s, he moved to San Francisco, and, in 1965, began to manage a theater troupe. He organized a benefit concert, then promoted several free concerts. This eventually turned into a profitable full-time career and he assembled a talented staff. Graham had a profound influence around the world, sponsoring the musical renaissance of the '60s from the epicenter, San Francisco. Graham made famous the Fillmore and Winterland Arena; these turned out to be a proving grounds for rock bands and acts of the San Francisco Bay area including the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Big Brother & the Holding Company with Janis Joplin.

       Graham was killed in a helicopter crash west of Vallejo, California on October 25, 1991, while returning home from a Huey Lewis and the News concert at the Concord Pavilion. Graham had attended the event to discuss promoting a benefit concert for the victims of the 1991 Oakland firestorm. Once he had obtained the commitment from Huey Lewis to perform, he returned to his helicopter. Flying in severe weather, with rain and gusty winds, the aircraft flew off course and too low to the ground over the tidal marshland north of San Pablo Bay. The Bell Jet Ranger flew directly into a 223-foot high-voltage tower near where Highway 37, which runs between Vallejo, California and Marin County, California, crosses Sonoma Creek. The helicopter burst into flames on impact, killing Graham, pilot Steve Kahn and Graham's girlfriend, Melissa Gold, ex-wife of author Herbert Gold. The charred remains of the helicopter hung grotesquely in the tower for more than a day.

 Following his death, his company, Bill Graham Presents (BGP), was taken over by a group of employees. Graham's sons remained a core part of the new management team. The new owners sold the company to SFX Promotions, which in turn sold the company to Clear Channel Entertainment. The BGP staff did not embrace the Clear Channel name, and several members of the Graham staff eventually left the company. Former BGP President/CEO Gregg Perloff and former Senior Vice President Sherry Wasserman left and started their own company, Another Planet Entertainment. Eventually Clear Channel separated itself from concert promotion and formed Live Nation, which is managed by many former Clear Channel executives. In 2014 one Miss. Shelley Jo Verena Shuford of San Francisco long time friend of the late Bill Graham is now the legal owner of both Winterland and Winterland Productions (name and company) and is promoting music artists, artists of California and the world.

Crosby Stills & Nash - Marrakesh Express/Helplessly Hoping (Woodstock 1969)

Crosby, Stills, Nash play at Woodstock with newly added member Neil Young in what is their second public performance. A half-dozen songs from their set appear on the ‘Woodstock’ (1970) and ‘Woodstock Two’ (1971) concert soundtracks.

"Marrakesh Express" is a song written by Graham Nash and performed by the band Crosby, Stills and Nash (CSN).
