On July 10, 2013 - The Americanarama Tour hit St. Paul Minnesota's Midway Stadium with Richard Thompson, My Morning Jacket, Wilco and Bob Dylan. Towards the end of Dylan's set, the Bard of Hibbing waxed nostalgic about an early chapter in his career when he played piano with Bobby Vee's band The Shadows in 1959. Indeed it was his first paying gig. Vee who recently retired from performing after an Alzheimers diagnosis was in the audience and was invited up next to the soundboard for this tribute and the two men caught up with each other after the show. A mutual admiration society to be sure and just magic to witness.
As Bobby's son-in-law I had access to some old Shadows images and
decided to mash them up with two of the handheld videos floating around
YouTube. Thanks to FallenManWildMercury Films and Harry Cane - I hope
you don't mind my cutting your two videos into one. You caught a rare
and heartfelt moment that Minnesota music writers have called one of the
standout moments of 2013. Thank you - and obviously no copyright
infringement intended.
