  One Hand Clapping serves as a celebration of the enduring legacy of Paul McCartney and Wings. It captured a moment when Wings had found and defined their signature sound – just as Paul had shaped popular culture the decade before with The Beatles, he was doing it once again in the 70s with Wings.  This recording gives an insight into the inner workings of the band as they work and play together in the studio.  It also underscores Paul’s incredible talent as a live performer:  Fifty years on, Paul is still performing many of these songs in packed stadiums across the world.

Gisteren zou John 72 jaar zijn geworden,helaas het mocht niet zo zijn,
op 8 december 1980, om tien minuten voor elf in de avond werd Lennon voor zijn huis in het Dakota gebouw aan 72nd Street vermoord door die halve gare Mark David Chapman met een .38 Charter Arms-revolver.

The Beatles gingen voor het eerst live optreden op Amerikaanse grond en de verwachtingen waren hoog gespannen.Het publiek werd eerst opgewarmd met groepen als The Carravels ,Tommy Roe en the Chiffons.

The Beatles komen op en wat een fantastische chaos!Om iedereen van het optreden te laten genieten had men een draaibaar drumstel gecreeerd en moest tussen de nummers regelmatig de opstelling worden veranderd.De mannen worden er niet warm of koud van en hebben duidelijk plezier in het hele gebeuren.

Het concert duurde ongeveer een uur en was mischien wel een van hun meest memorabele optredens.Tickets varieerden van $2 tot $4,

The Beatles - Melbourne 15/16/17 Juni 1964

On Sunday June 14th 1964 the Beatles arrived in Melbourne for a 3 night concert engagement at Festival Hall with 2 shows each night. 

 There were chaotic scenes outside the Southern Cross Hotel (on the corner of Bourke and Exhibition Streets) when the Beatles appeared on the balcony just above street level. Exhibition Street was blocked by an estimated 20,000 screaming fans. (Only Melbourne)

                                               "You Can't Do That"

About 45,000 people saw the six performances, and the last show was taped for television by Channel 9 and broadcast in Australia on 1st July from 7:30 to 8:30. Brian Epstein had originally agreed to 10 minutes being broadcast, but after he had seen a preview he was so pleased with it he allowed 22 minutes (the rest of the broadcast was made up with Australian music acts).

The performances included, "I Saw Her Standing There", "You Can't Do That", "All My Loving", "She Loves You", "Till There Was You", Roll Over Beethoven", Can't Buy Me Love", Twist And Shout" and "Long Tall Sally".

Inside the hotel the Beatles were reunited with Ringo who had flown in with Brian Epstein that morning. Jimmy Nicol packed his bag and left the next day.

Also, an E.M.I. reception was held at the Southern Cross Hotel the following day and John Lennon flew into a rage when he saw the altered Australian cover for the "With The Beatles" album.

 Australian entrepreneur Kenn Brodziak had booked the group 12 months earlier, just before the eruption of Beatlemania, for an unbelievable £2500 ($5000) per week.

 During Long Tall Sally a young audience member, Brent McCausland, leapt up on the stage and shook Lennon’s hand.

 But it wasn’t all short shows and screaming girls. On the afternoon of the Beatles’ last day in Melbourne, George Harrison borrowed a red MG and drove through the eastern suburbs along Whitehorse Rd — Box Hill, Blackburn, Mitcham and Ringwood — and up the Mt Dandenong Tourist Road to Olinda stopping at the Kenloch tea rooms for a sandwich. Een ongelooflijk goed bandje, met tot de dag van vandaag nog van grote invloed op de hedendaagse popmuziek.

The Beatles at the Ed Sullivan Show (1964-1965)

 On this day 51 years ago, The Beatles made their first live American television appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
At 8 o’clock on February 9th 1964, America tuned in to CBS and The Ed Sullivan Show. But this night was different. 73 million people gathered in front their TV sets to see The Beatles’ first live performance on U.S. soil. The television rating was a record-setting 45.3, meaning that 45.3% of households with televisions were watching.

 At last, John, Paul, George and Ringo came onto the stage, opening with “All My Loving” to ear-splitting screeches from teenaged girls in the audience. The Beatles followed that hit with Paul McCartney taking the spotlight to sing, “Till There Was You.” During the song, a camera cut to each member of the band and introduced him to the audience by displaying his first name on screen.

 A week later, the February 24th issue of Newsweek magazine’s cover featured a picture of The Beatles with the title, “Bugs About Beatles.” Inside, the review of The Beatles debut on The Ed Sullivan Show began, “Visually, they are a nightmare: tight, dandified, Edwardian/Beatnik suits and great pudding bowls of hair. Musically, they are a near-disaster: guitars and drums slamming out a merciless beat that does away with secondary rhythms, harmony, and melody. Their lyrics (punctuated by nutty shouts of “yeah, yeah, yeah!”) are a catastrophe, a preposterous farrago of Valentine-card romantic sentiments.” The article ended with the following prediction, “…the odds are they will fade away, as most adults confidently predict.”

                                                      Help ( September 12th, 1965)

 On September 12th, 1965, The Fab Four returned to the Ed Sullivan stage one last time. They played “I Feel Fine,” “I’m Down,” “Act Naturally,” “Ticket to Ride,” “Yesterday,” and “Help!” This performance was taped in New York on August 14th, 1965, just one day before The Beatles kicked off their North American Tour with a concert at Shea Stadium that set the attendance record for an outdoor show at the time.

 After a break for lunch, The Beatles returned to the studio for an afternoon session lasting from 2.30-5.30pm. They recorded John Lennon's ballad If I Fell in 15 takes, with Lennon and McCartney singing together into a the same microphone.(The Beatles Bible)

The Beatles live at Budokan - Japan (1966)

After the Beatles released the Rubber Soul album at the end of 1965, they recorded their follow up album Revolver then embarked on a world tour. In making these two albums, the group recorded music that had become increasingly difficult to reproduce on stage. But that problem only scratched the surface of problems the band would face in 1966.

The Asian leg of the tour began with controversy as right-wing Japanese nationalists protested at the staging of their concerts in Tokyo at the Nippon Budokan in June and July which was built for the staging of the martial arts rather than musical performances.
The performances went ahead but there was heavy security to protect the group from both fans and protesters, meaning the group were forced to stay in their suite at the Tokyo Hilton, although Lennon escaped for a short time. NEMS staff photographer, Robert Whitaker, remembered: "He [Lennon] snuck out using my name, on the basis, I think, that all white people probably looked the same to the Japanese. He got away with it for a while, but then somebody recognised him and he was dragged back to the hotel."

                                           If I Needed Someone.

 Feet planted on Japanese ground for the first time and bleary from lack of sleep, the Beatles faced the usual round of daft probes about their hair, which they handled with customary good humor. Asked about the “motives and incentives” for their hairstyle, Harrison said: “We couldn’t afford a barber at the time.” Ringo: “I think the next change will be when we go bald.”

But then came an ominous question from Ken Gary, representing the foreign press in Japan. “Some Japanese say that your performances will violate the Budokan, which is devoted to traditional Japanese martial arts, and you set a bad example for Japanese youth by leading them astray from traditional Japanese values. What do you think of all that?”
John: “Better to watch singing than wrestling, anyway.”

                                           Nowhere Man

 “It’s amazing security, you know,” commented Ringo at their first press conference. “I’ve never seen so many people guarding us.” It’s for your own safety, he was told. The four found themselves virtually confined to their hotel. Rightwingers protested, screaming invective against the “foreign invaders.” Before the Beatles’ three Budokan concerts, police warned that fans who stood up and made noise would be arrested.

Paul McCartney gaf een ,,lunchtime,,optreden in London’s beroemde 100 Club op 17 December, 2010. De club,een van Londons oudste live music zalen was in de financiele problemen geraakt.Voor Paul was het een van zijn kleinste optreden in 12 jaar. Toen gaf hij een optreden in de historische Cavern Club in Liverpool in. Deze keer waren er 3oo gelukkigen aanwezig onder wie Ron Wood van The Stones


Magical Mystery Tour

Paul vroeg regelmatig om de club te helpen tijdens zijn 28-songs tellende set. “It’s a great gig for us and many bands,” zij hij, “so I think, please, Mr. 100, try and save it, because it’s a really class place, this”.


And I Love Her

Het optreden bevatte bijna alle Beatles klassiekers als Let It Be, All My Loving, Eleanor Rigby en Hey Jude en de set eindigde met een medley van Yesterday, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band en The End.

De eigenaar van de club, Jeff Horton, vertelde ,het was “incredibly special” om paul hier te zien spelen “To have Sir Paul McCartney step up to the plate and fight for the cause with us is brilliant – there is nobody bigger than that,” zij hij. “To have the man who changed the face of pop music play here is incredibly special.”

George Harrison (Liverpool, 25 februari 1943 - Los Angeles, 29 november 2001) was gitarist van de legendarische popgroep The Beatles. Hij maakte vrijwel vanaf het begin deel uit van de groep. Hij werd geboren in het Engelse Liverpool.


Something (Abbey Road)

Zijn muzikale loopbaan begon op school, waar hij in de band 'The Quarrymen' speelde, samen met zijn vrienden John Lennon en Paul McCartney, die hem bij Lennon introduceerde. Met Paul, John Lennon, Stuart Sutcliffe en Pete Best (later vervangen door Ringo Starr) vormde hij in 1959 de band 'Silver Beatles'. Daarna de Beatals en in 1960 veranderden ze de naam in 'The Beatles' en werden ze gevraagd in Duitsland op te treden. Dat was het begin van het succesverhaal van de groep, dat tien jaar geduurd heeft.

Als componist werd hij binnen de Beatles overigens naar eigen zeggen nooit helemaal erkend, ondergesneeuwd als hij werd door het grote(re) succes en de dominantie van het koppel Lennon-McCartney. Pas in 1969 werd Harrison door de critici muzikaal op een lijn gesteld met Lennon en McCartney na het verschijnen van de elpee Abbey Road waarop zijn composities Something en Here Comes The Sun staan.

In november 1968 werd de eerste soloplaat van Harrison uitgebracht onder de titel Wonderwall Music. Het jaar erop verscheen Electronic Sounds waarop Harrison met de minimoog-synthesizer experimenteerde. Nadat McCartney de Beatles in april 1970 had verlaten ging ieder zijns weegs. Harrison begon een solocarrière. Nog in 1970 verscheen zijn derde album All Things Must Pass, met daarop de grote hit My Sweet Lord. Het is meteen een driedubbel album: het is duidelijk dat Harrison wil laten horen wat hij al die jaren niet kwijt kon op de Beatles-albums. 'All Things Must Pass' is een klassiek album van de jaren '70. Volgens velen zou hij later het album kwalitatief ook niet meer overtreffen.

Na de moord op John Lennon in 1980, maakten de overige Beatles in 1981 als eerbetoon aan hem samen het nummer All Those Years Ago, wat een hit werd in de Verenigde Staten. Het nummer is geschreven door George Harrison en staat op het album Somewhere in England.

Cloud Nine is een comeback album voor Harrison. Met Got My Mind Set on You' en 'When We Was Fab' keert hij terug in de hoogste regionen van de hitparade.

Eind jaren 80 heeft Harrison veel succes als prominent lid van de band Traveling Wilburys. Deze band maakt twee albums maar gaat ten onder door het overlijden van Roy Orbison en kort daarop de dood van diens beoogde opvolger Del Shannon.

In 2002 verscheen postuum zijn laatste album Brainwashed. Het album is afgemaakt door zoon Dhani Harrison en ontving lovende kritieken.

Na het uitbrengen The White Album en na een korte onderbreking hadden The Beatles plannen voor live shows ,een film en een TV show.De repetities hiervoor leverden mooie beelden op soms van een grote meligheid,ook mooie muzikale en soms grappige momenten.De inbreng van Ringo is nihil,George doet zijn naam van "stille Beatle"alle eer aan Yoko is altijd irritant aanwezig maar de chemie tussen John en Paul is er nog steeds. Al die repetities en voorbereidingen zijn samengevat op drie DVD,s genaamd The Get Back Chronicles .Uren kijkplezier,George oogt in dit fragment wat onzeker,maar van enige frictie tussen het viertal is niks te merken.

"For You Blue" is een nummer van George Harrison, het was de B-side van "The Long and Winding Road" (in the US) en track No11 van het laatste Beatles' album final "Let It Be" "For You Blue" werd samen met "The Long and Winding Road" een dubbelzijdige hit en werd een nummer 1 in de US Billboard Hot 100 in 1970.

Vandaag 22 maart 2013 is het 50 jaar geleden dat het eerste album van The Beatles uitkwam.Ik was zelf nog niet in het bezit van een platenspeler dus waarschijnlijk heb ik het voor het eerst beluistert bij vriend Karel ,wiens zus er wel een had.Ik weet wel dat ik gelijk verkocht was en moest alles weten van dit bandje.Dat was nog niet zo eenvoudig ,aangezien er ook nog geen TV in huis was.Alle informatie kwam dus uit de toenmalige muziekbladen en Radio Luxemburg die met veel moeite te ontvangen was.

 

 

Het zou niet hun beste album worden,maar betekende wel een revolutie in de muziekindustrie .Elvis ,Cliff,The Everly Brothers,The Shadows enz klonken op dat moment opeens erg ouderwets,de "Beatmuziek" had zijn intrede gedaan...

Track 1 Side 1 - I Saw Her Standing There. In December 1963 kwam de single uit in de United States als B-side van "I Want to Hold Your Hand".




Track 5  Side 1 - Boys  is een nummer van  Luther Dixon en Wes Farrell, en was  the Shirelles .Het was de eerste opname met Ringo op solo zang.



 
Track 7  Side 1 - Please Please Me " de titletrack van het album. een John Lennon compositie en de tweede single in United Kingdom




Track 1 side two - Love Me Do " is de eerste single van de band en kwam uit op  5 October 1962.
Het wer een nummer 1 hit in  de USA in 1964.





Track 7 side two Twist and Shout  geschreven door Philip "Phil" Medley (9 April 1916– 3 October 1997) Ook bekend in de uitvoering van  The Isley Brothers .

 

  Please Please Me stond 30 weken nummer 1  UK album charts in mei 1963 ,opgevolgd door het  tweede album With The Beatles.
