The Dickey Betts Band - Ramblin Man (Rockpalast 2008)

"Ramblin' Man" is a song by American rock band The Allman Brothers Band, released in September 1973 as the lead single from the group's fourth studio album, Brothers and Sisters (1973). Written by guitarist Dickey Betts, the song was inspired by a 1951 song of the same name by Hank Williams. It is considerably more inspired by country music than other Allman Brothers Band compositions, which made the group reluctant to record it. Guitarist Les Dudek provides guitar harmonies, and it was one of bassist Berry Oakley's last contributions to the band.

 "Ramblin' Man" was first created during songwriting sessions for Eat a Peach. An embryonic version, referring to a "ramblin' country man," can be heard on the bootleg The Gatlinburg Tapes, featuring the band jamming on an off-day in April 1971 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.^[1] Betts continued to work on the song for a year, but the lyrics came together in as little as twenty minutes. "I wrote "Ramblin' Man" in Berry Oakley's kitchen [at the Big House] at about four in the morning. Everyone had gone to bed but I was sitting up," said Betts in 2014.^[2] Trucks noted that the band acknowledged it was a good song but were reluctant to record it, as it sounded too country for them.^[3] New member and keyboardist Chuck Leavell enjoyed the song, noting, "It's definitely in the direction of country but that didn’t bother me in the least […] I think our attitude was, 'Let's take this thing and make it as great as we can.'"^[2] The song was inspired by a 1951 song of the same name by Hank Williams.^[4]

Otis Redding (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) R.I.P.


In 1967 speelde Otis op het Monterey Pop Festival, en in hetzelfde jaar nam hij ook The dock of the bay op, maar hij overleed een jaar voordat het populair werd. Drie dagen na het opnemen van dit liedje kwam hij om bij een vliegtuigongeluk in Lake Madison, Wisconsin, samen met vier van de zes leden van zijn band The Bar-Kays. Mede-bandlid Ben Cauley overleefde het ongeluk en James Alexander zat in een ander vliegtuig. Het was de bedoeling om het gefloten gedeelte later te vervangen door tekst. Otis Redding heeft het uiteindelijke liedje nooit gehoord; ze waren het nog aan het afmixen toen hij overleed.

Vincent Eugene Craddock (February 11, 1935 – October 12, 1971), known as Gene Vincent, was an American musician who pioneered the styles of rock and roll and rockabilly. His 1956 top ten hit with his Blue Caps, "Be-Bop-A-Lula", is considered a significant early example of rockabilly. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

Veel voor mij bekende namen,maar zo,n festival is ook een uitstekende gelegenheid weer nieuwe artiesten te ondekken.Zo zag het voor het eerst Robert Ellis,The Dustbowl Revival(heerlijke band)Kerry Powers ,Johnny Irion en onderstaande Bonnie Bishop,een zeer aangename verassing.

The Band - King Harvest (Has Surely Come)

"King Harvest (Has Surely Come)" is a song by The Band, which originally appeared as the final track on their second album, The Band.
The song is credited solely to guitarist Robbie Robertson, although drummer/singer Levon Helm claimed that "King Harvest" was a group effort.^[1] It is sung in the first person from the point of view of a poverty-stricken farmer who, with increasing desperation, details the misfortune which has befallen him: there was no rain and his crops died, his barn burned down, he has ended up on skid row. A labor union organizer appears, promising to improve things, and the narrator tells his new associates, "I'm a union man, now, all the way", but, perhaps ashamed of his station, begs them to "just don't judge me by my shoes." The events depicted in the song are most likely a reference to the organizing drives of the Trade Union Unity League, which created share-cropper unions from 1928 to 1935, throughout the U.S. South.

The rock critic Greil Marcus called it "The Band's song of blasted country hopes" and suggested that "King Harvest" might be Robertson's finest song and the best example of the group's approach to songwriting and performing.^[2] Author Neil Minturn praised its "dark, eerie earnestness."^[3]
The song's structure is unusual: the verses, sung by pianist Richard Manuel, are energetic, while the choruses (sung by Manuel and Levon Helm) are more subdued, in contrast to typical song structure. This change possibly reflects the desperate if unsure hope the protagonist holds in the union

 Great  performance  is from the French TV Show "Bouton Rouge". It was broadcast live on 27 April 1968 and features the original Fairport Line up of Judy Dyble, Iain Matthews, Simon Nicol, Tyger Hutchings, Richard Thompson, and the late Martin Lamble playing Morning Glory, Time Will Show The Wiser and a simply awe-inspiring mind-melting performance of Reno, Nevada.

 After this performance they signed with Island Records, Judy Dyble left the band to be replaced by Sandy Denny and they went off to reinvent British folk rock.
