Het blijf altijd verwonderlijk en spannend dat er in het gigantisch aanbod Blues en Rockabilly artiesten er toch weer zijn die zich weten te onderscheiden.Dit lijkt me er ook weer zo een,ik kwam haar tegen op het mooie weblog Deep Blues Een opvallende verschijning ,deze dame,behoorlijk swingend,prima stem en ook nog eens begeleid door een uitstekende band.Het eerste album schijnt er aan te komen en ook had ze het over optredens in Europa.Van mij mag het ,dus organisitoren van de div. bluesclubs en festivals,grijp jullie kans,een geslaagde avond,getuige de beelden verzekerd!

 Years before singer Nikki Hill began performing, she wanted to create a persona for herself. This involved combining sources that wouldn't seem to fit together.

Hill, now 27, revisits the blues and rockabilly shouters of the 1950s, and her approach also echoes the phrasing of lesser-known, somewhat smoother soul singers such as Barbara Lynn. All of that comes from Hill's own research. Her poise goes back to childhood church experience in North Carolina. But while blues, R&B and gospel have always been intertwined, she was also a teenage punk rocker

 Hill draws on vintage female rhythm and blues influences such as LaVern Baker, Etta James and Ruth Brown, as well as some of her favorite male singers Otis Redding and Solomon Burke, without being stuck or pigeonholed strictly as a ‘retro’ artist. Her tough vocal style fits with contemporary sensibilities yet evokes all the great blues shouters of previous decades. With the success of similar artists such as Amy Winehouse or Imelda May,

Hailing from Durham, North Carolina, Nikki comes by her Deep South soul honestly. Her musical roots began while singing in gospel choirs at church. A stint living in nearby college town Chapel Hill introduced her to many different styles of music and the awareness of music (and more importantly, unique and non-mainstream music) as a possible career. After pairing up with her guitar-playing husband Matt Hill, they promptly relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where they have established themselves as roots rock, rhythm and blues powerhouses!

Recently creating a whirlwind of excitement following her performances at the Viva Las Vegas festival (the largest roots music festival in the United States), Nikki Hill is currently anticipating the release of her first recording. Following the release of her debut effort, Hill plans to extensively tour the United States and Europe for the remainder of 2012 and well into 2013, spreading her message of down-home dirty R&B to believers and new converts everywhere.

The Quebe Sisters Band is een Amerikaanse fiddle Western swing groep uit Fort Worth, Texas.
De band bestaat uit de zusjes Grace, Sophia en Hulda Quebe  met Joey L. McKenzie op op gitaar en  Drew Phelps op upright bass. Opgericht in  2000, De band speelt band  Western swing, hot jazz, country & Western (Bob Wills, Sons of the Pioneers, etc.) en traditionele Texas style fiddle tunes.

Het eerste blogbericht van 2013.Wat zal dit jaar weer voor mooie muziek en concerten brengen?
In ieder geval zitten de tickets voor Neil Young,Mark Knopfler,Steven Wilson,Phantom Limb al in de pocket.Theater de Wegwijzer heeft weer een veelbelovend programma,natuurlijk is Blues Kwadendamme een vaste waarde en wie weet wat Peer,North Sea Jazz e.a ons nog gaat brengen.
Ik heb er in ieder geval weer zin in .We gaan maar rustig beginnen met een prachtige gospel van Tommy Ellison & The Singing Stars.

 Tommy Ellison of the Tommy Ellison & The Singing Stars passed away on Saturday January 3, 2009, after an illness. Born in Salley, SC, Ellison began by singing background for Madame Edna Gallmon Cooke's, as a part of her group, The Five Singing Stars. In 1959, Ellison formed his own group, The Five Singing Stars, later renamed to Tommy Ellison and the Five Singing Stars.

Ernst Jansz zingt Bob Dylan (vertaalt)

 

Donderdag 6 december was ik bij het concert van Ernst Jansz in het mooie Theater De Wegwijzer in Nieuw en St Joostland. Ernst deed het programma "Dromen van Johanna"waarin hij teksten vertaalt van Bob Dylan in het Nederlands,een in mijn ogen bijna onmogelijke taak maar ik kon mij in zijn interpetaties toch erg goed vinden.Voor de pauze nummers van zijn twee solo albums met tussendoor verhalen en beelden uit zijn jeugd,mooi en boeiend.Na de pauze Bob Dylan

                                          Uit Spanje Spaanse Laarzen
 De vertaling van Boots Of Spanish Leather van het album "The Times They Are A-Changin'" uit 1964.Volgens Ernst Jansz waarschijnlijk geschreven naar aanleiding van het vertrek van zijn toenmalige vriendin Suze Rotola naar Europa

 Ernst Jansz: “Bob Dylan heeft mij door de jaren heen geïnspireerd. Al van jongs af aan ben ik een bewonderaar. Ik snapte niets van de teksten, maar dat maakte niets uit. Dylan's teksten hebben een soort schoonheid die je niet kunt verklaren. Hij was de eerste die poëzie en popmuziek bij elkaar bracht. Maar niet alleen in zijn teksten, ook in muzikaal opzicht was Dylan een pionier.

Een vertaling van  "To Ramona" is een wals ,geschreven voor Bob,s vierde album "Another Side Of Bob Dylan"
De bovenstaande beelden zijn van het concert dat Ernst Jansz gaf in Theater De Flint begin van dit jaar. De begeleidende muzikanten zijn Richard Wallenburg op Bas en Guus Paat op gitaren.
De songs in De Wegwijzer waren ,Uit Spanje Spaanse Laarzen(Boots Of Spanish Leather)-Voor Ramona(To Ramona)-De VerlorenStraat(Desolaition Row)-Als een Vrouw(Just Like a Woman)-Dromen van Johanna(Visions of Johanna)-Liefde min Nul(Love Minus Zero)-Huiswaarts(Tommorow,s a Long Time).Het mooiste werd tot het laatst bewaard,met prachtig pianointro Iedere Korrel Zand(Every Grain Of Sand)in een schitterende uitvoering en de afsluiter Het Meisje van de Rode Rivier(Red River Shore)een wat minder bekend nummer van Bob,maar wel een van mijn favorieten.
