Neil Young - Harvest Sessions (1971)

Harvest is the fourth album by the Canadian musician Neil Young, released on February 14, 1972 on Reprise Records, catalogue . It featured the London Symphony Orchestra on two tracks and vocals by noted guests David Crosby, Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Stills, and James Taylor. It topped the Billboard 200 album ^charts  for two weeks, and spawned two hit singles, "Old Man", which peaked at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Heart of Gold", which reached #1.^[2] It was the best-selling album of 1972 in the United States.

There,s a World

 "A Man Needs a Maid" and "There's a World" were recorded by Jack Nitzsche with the London Symphony Orchestra in early March in the wake of Young's appearance on the BBC and concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

  In the last verse, Young describes watching a movie and falling in love with the actress. This is an autobiographical reference to Young's falling in love with actress Carrie Snodgress, who would become the mother of Young's first son.Young had first become smitten by Snodgress when he saw her acting the part of the role of the titular housewife in the move Diary of a Mad Housewife.

While waiting for a liver transplant, Snodgress was hospitalized in Los Angeles, where she died of heart failure on April 1, 2004, at age 58

Dat de heren van de bluesclub in Cafe Viersprong een goede hand van programmeren is bekend,deze avond was daar weer een goed voorbeeld van. Op het programma de uit St. Louis, Missouri. afkomstige Mike Zito en en de in Kansas City geboren Samantha Fish.

                  I Put A Spell On You

 Het werden eigenlijk drie concerten in een.Allereerst Samantha met haar band met onder andere deze prachtuivoering van Screaming Jay Hawkins,s  I Put A Spell On You(in het kader van halloween)en een akoestische versie van Dead Flowers Verder bleek Samantha ook goed op de Cigar Box Guitar overweg kon.

                  Mike Zito
Na de pauze werd de band aangevuld met een geweldige saxofonist en bracht zijn Mike met zijn krachtige stem en prima gitaarspel de temperatuur  in De Viersprong op kookpunt.

Mike Zito speelde in  Royal Southern Brotherhood van 2010 tot 2014 samen met Cyril Neville, Devon Allman Charlie Wooten op bass en drummer Yonrico Scott

                  De avond werd afgesloten met met Samantha en Mike allebei op het podium ,
                  Mooi afsluiting van een prachtige muzikale avond !

Mede door andere verplichtingen kon mijn bezoek aan het Take Roots festival in Utrecht niet doorgaan.Het kwam daarom mooi uit dat twee daar optredende acts hier in de buurt te zien waren,afgelopen woensdag Jimmy Lafave in Terneuzen(21-10-2015) en Eilen Jewell gisteravond (23-10-2015)in Eeklo.

Zo,n 10 jaar geleden kennisgemaakt met deze dame.Is in Europa ben ik meestal wel bij een van haar optredens van de partij.Ze schrijft mooie song en een mooie bijkomstigheid is  in haar band de aanwezigheid van die fenomenale  gitarist Jerry Miller .Die man tovert en improviseert de mooiste licks en solo,s uit zijn prachtige  instrument.Nu hoorde ik opeens weer een stukje Allman Brothers voorbijkomen ,prachtig!

Het was mijn eerste bezoek aan club N9 in Eeklo.Het zal niet mijn laatste zijn ,mooi podium ,prima geluid ,aardige mensen en een uitsekende programmering.

Het voorprogramma werd verzorgd door Miss Tess .Beetje in de stijl van Eilen Jewell,iets meer rockabilly maar o.a mooie covers van Willy Nelson en Ted Hawkins

Ondertussen is Eilen moeder geworden en deze song is opgedragen aan dochter Mavis.
Samengevat een mooie avond en ook nog een leuke nababbel met mijn Belgies/Nederlandse muziekvrienden.

The Spencer Davis Group are a mid-1960s British beat group from Birmingham, England, formed by Spencer Davis with Steve Winwood and his brother Muff Winwood. Their best known songs include "Somebody Help Me", the UK number one "Keep on Running" (both of which were written by reggae musician Jackie Edwards), "I'm a Man" and "Gimme Some Lovin'", which peaked at #2 in the UK and #7 in the United States.



My Babe

 Spencer Davis (born 17 July 1939, Swansea, Wales) moved to Birmingham from London in 1960 to study. In 1963, he recruited the Winwood brothers and started the Spencer Davis Group. The band performed regularly in the city. They signed their first recording contract after Chris Blackwell of Island Records saw them at an appearance in a local club; Blackwell also became their producer.


Somebody Help Me Now.

 The group's first professional recording was a cover version of "Dimples", but they came to success at the end of 1965 with "Keep On Running", the group's first number one single. In 1966, they followed this with "Somebody Help Me" and "When I Come Home". For the German market the group released "Det war in Schoneberg, im Monat Mai" and "Madel ruck ruck ruck an meine grune Seite" (the first is from a 1913 Berlin operetta, the second is a Swabian traditional) as a tribute single for that audience, Davis having studied in West Berlin in the early 1960s.



Till The End Of Time

 By the end of 1966 and the beginning of 1967, the group released two more hits, "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man". These tracks proved to be their two best-known successes, especially in the U.S.

In 1967, Winwood left to form Traffic; his brother Muff moved into the music industry as A&R man at Island Records. In a joint venture, the soundtrack to the film Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush featured both the Spencer Davis Group and Traffic.

 Despite the Winwoods' departure, the Spencer Davis Group continued performing and released more singles, though not repeating earlier successes. These included "Time Seller" in July 1967; the b-side, "Don't Want You No More," also received radio airplay.


Nobody Knows When You Down and Out (From "The Ghost Goes Gear")

 In 1966 the group starred in The Ghost Goes Gear, a British musical comedy film, directed by Hugh Gladwish, and also starring Sheila White and Nicholas Parsons. The plot involved the group in a stay at the childhood home of their manager, a haunted manor house in the English countryside. The film would later be considered a mistake by Winwood.

 Although short-lived, the Spencer Davis Group - particularly its incarnation with Steve Winwood - proved to be influential, with many of the band's songs covered by other artists over the years. Notable among these are Chicago's 1969 version of "I'm a Man," The Allman Brothers Band's 1969 take of Davis' instrumental "Don't Want You No More," Three Dog Night's 1970 recording of "Can't Get Enough of It," and The Blues Brothers' 1980 recording of "Gimme Some Lovin'." The Grateful Dead also covered Spencer Davis Group material in live performance on occasion; in particular, Spencer Davis himself performed "I'm a Man" with the Dead at a 1989 performance at Los Angeles' Great Western Forum.

Muddy Waters - Got My Mojo Working (1961)

 McKinley Morganfield (April 4, 1913 – April 30, 1983), known professionally as Muddy Waters, was an American blues singer-songwriter and musician who was an important figure in the post-war blues scene, and is often cited as the "father of modern Chicago blues"

"Got My Mojo Working" is a blues song written by Preston "Red" Foster and first recorded by Ann Cole in 1956. Muddy Waters popularized it in 1957 and the song was a feature of his performances throughout his career. A mojo is an amulet or talisman associated with hoodoo, an early African-American folk-magic belief system.
Rolling Stone magazine included Waters' rendition of the song on its list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time

John Mayall "USA UNION" LIVE!!

  
USA Union is a 1970 album by blues musician John Mayall, featuring Harvey Mandel on guitar, Larry Taylor on bass and Don "Sugarcane" Harris on violin. The album was recorded on July 27 & 28th, 1970 at Larrabee Studios in LA and released by Polydor later in the same year .



Off the road

 At the end of the sixties John Mayall was residing in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, California and had developed connections with local musicians, befriending Harvey Mandel and Larry Taylor, who had both just departed Canned Heat. Taylor had appeared on one track of Mayall's previous album, Empty Rooms, the only studio recordings of his "Turning Point" band, and stayed on to replace Stephen Thompson (with whom he duetted on "To a Princess"); Mandel essentially replaced acoustic guitar specialist Jon Mark, and electric violinist Harris replaced saxophonist Johnny Almond.

 In the USA Union liner notes, Mayall noted that, after the Turning Point band broke up, he'd played a British music festival with an all-star lineup and then needed to form a new band swiftly when Polydor Records pressed him for a new album.

 The USA Union lineup would appear as some of the core of Mayall's Back to the Roots set, which featured several notable Mayall alumni including Eric Clapton, John McVie, Mick Taylor, Stephen Thompson and previous drummers Keef Hartley and Aynsley Dunbar. Mayall would keep the drumless format for just one more album, Memories, where Jerry McGee replaced Harvey Mandel as guitarist.

Harvey Mandel (born March 11, 1945),speelde samen met Charlie Musselwhite, Canned Heat, The Rolling Stones, en John Mayall alvorens hij een solocarriere begon .Hij was een van de eerste gitaristen die het z.g two-handed fretboard tapping beoefende.

Don "Sugarcane" Harris (born Don Francis Bowman Harris, June 18, 1938[1] - November 30 (or December 1), 1999) was een Amerikaanse rock & roll violist en gitarist.Vormde jarenlang een duo met zijn jeugvriend Dewey Terry Harris onder de naam Don & Terry .Hoewel ze zelf geen hits hadden waren ze wel verantwoordelijk voor bekende nummers als "Farmer John", "Justine", "Leavin' It All Up to you", en "Big Boy Pete," hoofdzakelijk uitgevoerd door andere artiesten

Larry Taylor (born Samuel Taylor, 26 June 1942, New York) meest bekend als bassist van Canned Heat Hiervoor was hij sessie bassist voor The Monkees en Jerry Lee Lewis.

The album was recorded at Jackson Browne's Groove Masters Studios in Santa Monica, California. Ry Cooder at Koninklijk Theater Carré, Amsterdam, Netherlands (May 7 - 1982)

 When RC is in the area I always try to be there. In 1982 I was late for the tickets in Amsterdam, but for the show in Brussels, three days later I had better luck. I have a beautiful hall here (Palais des Beaux-Arts), and in my memory about the same setlist. The tour was as part of Ry's new album "The Slide Area" (the pictures are not from this concert)
