James Houston Davis (September 11, 1899 – November 5, 2000), better known as Jimmie Davis, was a noted singer of both sacred and popular songs who served two nonconsecutive terms as the 47th Governor of Louisiana (1944–1948 and 1960–1964). Davis was a nationally popular country music and gospel singer from the 1930's into the 1960's, occasionally recording and performing as late as the early 1990's. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

Naast zijn carriere als soloariest werkte Lonnie ook samen met artiesten als The Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughan, James Brown, Freddie King, Joe Simon, Ronnie Hawkins, Albert Collins, Roy Buchanan, Dobie Gray ,de zonen van blueslegende Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, en vele anderen.

Roy Buchanan (September 23, 1939 - August 14, 1988)Ook wel de pionier van de Telecaster sound genoemd.Roy Buchanan. Begin de jaren ’70 kwam deze als blanke blues-gitarist geboekstaafde Amerikaan aan de oppervlakte. Toch schuwde hij geen uitstapjes naar de jazz-rock of hardere rock. Toen hij aangezocht werd om Brian Jones bij de Stones te vervangen, weigerde Buchanan, het strookte niet met zijn muzikale opvattingen. Twilight Hotel (Dave Quanbury & Brandy Zdan)
Weer zo,n verrassend mooie muziekavond in Theater De Wegwijzer.In het kader van ,,Americana Night,, stond het oorspronkelijk uit Canada afkomstige duo ,Twilight Hotel,,op het programma.Mij totaal niet bekend,maar aangezien het met de keuze van de artiesten in dit theater wel goed zit ik ging ik er met het volle vertrouwen naar toe.
En wederom niet teleurgesteld,prachtige samenzang van het duo,een geweldige instrumentbeheersing(gitaar,acordeon,lapsteel ,piano .trompet)mooie composities,kortom het was een prachtconcert.Natuurlijk de twee CDtje van het duo aangeschaft, en als die ook nog blijken prima het beluisteren waard te zijn mag er sprake zijn van een zeer geslaagde avond.

In late 2009 Zdan & Quanbury made the trek across the New Mexico/Arizona desert from their new home in Austin, TX to Los Angeles, CA to record their third album “When The Wolves Go Blind”. They holed up in Kingsize soundlabs for 3 days and laid down the album live off the floor.

“When it came time to making the record, we could only imagine this batch of songs with Stephen Hodges (Tom Waits, Mavis Staples) behind the kit and John Whynot (Lucinda Williams, Blue Rodeo) at the board. John brought in bassist Jeff Turmes to round out the rhythm section as well as lend his talents on Saxophone and Banjo. Jeff and Stephan have been playing together for 15 plus years, it was a perfect choice.” says Quanbury.

What Do I Know About Love

“Most of the songs on the album were co-written between the two of us while we were touring Highway Prayer” says Zdan. “The experiences we had out there on the road and the feeling we’d have coming home to Winnipeg in the winter informed the lonely lap-steel lament ‘Frozen Town,’ and the odyssey ‘Mahogany Veneer.’ In the past we’d written third person narratives about seedy characters and Americana but this time around we realized that we were becoming the subjects of our writing.”

Hailing from the fertile music scene of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Zdan & Quanbury have been combining their talents for 8 years and now make their home in Austin, Texas. In 2008, they released their sophomore album Highway Prayer, produced by Colin Linden. Een zeer charmante dames band, Red Molly genaamd.Prachtige samenzang en grote liefde voor de bluegrass, folk, western swing en country. Het damestrio bestond oorspronkelijk uit Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner en Carolann Solebello.Carolann besloot echter vorig jaar voor een solocarriere te gaan en is vervangen door Molly Venter Met begeleidingsinstrumenten als de gitaar, staande bas, banjo, dobro, pedal steel, en viool vallen zij vooral op door hun sprankelende meerstemmigheid.

Christopher William Stoneking (geb. 1974, Katherine, Northern Territory) is een Australische blues singer-songwriter en gitaar/banjo speler.Hij woont in Melbourne, Australia en is nu internationaal aan het doorbreken.Hij trad o.a op bij Jools Holland en toer binnenkort door Europa met zijn band, the Primitive Horn Orchestra.
Voor mij een nieuwe ontdekking en vind het erg mooi.

Hij wordt wel een levend anachronisme genoemd. Alleen al door zijn verschijning (denk aan een jonge uitvoering van James Cagney) past C.W. Stoneking niet of nauwelijks in het straatbeeld van vandaag. En dan is er nog zijn voorliefde voor muziek en entertainment uit lang vervlogen tijden. Toch is de ster van de Amerikaanse Australiër, vooral bij jonge generaties, rijzende. Het is wat stil rond onze vriend Van Morrison,vorig jaar 65 geworden zou hij dan toch met pensioen zijn?Er is mij niets bekend van komende toernee,s ,en of hij bezig is met een nieuw album .Het zal toch niet betekenen dat zijn optreden vorig jaar in Peer mijn laatste Van Morrison concert is geweest? Of worden we straks verrast met een compleet nieuwe VM band met optredens in Carre of Vredenburg en ligt er een splinternieuw album op de planken.Ik heb er een hard hoofd in ,maar hoop doet leven.Gelukkig komt er mede dank zij het onvolprezen internet steeds meer audio en video materiaal boven water en kunnen we blijven genieten van de muziek van ,,Van The Man,,
Wat te denken van deze sfeervolle zwart/wit opnames van een optreden in het Capitol Theatre in New Jersey uit 1979
