Van Morrison - Lokerse Feesten (Lokeren,Belgie) 9 Aug.2016

Het word bijna een traditie ,het jaarlijks bezoek aan de Lokerse Feesten.En er is dan is ook bijna altijd een (muzikale) aanleiding voor.Een muziek festival met een bijna onwaarschijnlijke programmering,tien dagen lang en voor ieder muziekliefhebber wat wils Ik zag daar voorgaande jaren o.a Jackson Brown,The Waterboys,NeilYoung Robert Plant e.a En dan dit jaar Van Morrison ,natuurlijk is Arthur dan van de partij.

1 Moondance (album Moondance) film by Huub Kurstjens

Veel VM concerten meegemaakt (1974 Rotterdam De Doelen was mijn eerste) en vorig jaar in Gent mijn laatste.Veel mooie herinneringen aan prachtige optredens in De Doelen ,Carre ,De Statenhal e.a .De mooiste waren misschien toch wel in de jaren 90 in Vredenburg,optredens van zo,n twee en een half uur met veel plezier en improvisatie.


2 The Way Young Lovers Do (part) (album Astral Weeks)film by Huub Kurstjens

Ik denk dat ik in totaal zo,n 30/40 optredens heb meegemaakt,wat niets is vergeleken met de echte die-hard VM fans die stad en land afreizen om hun idool in aktie te zien Eigenlijk nooit teleurgesteld ,op een enkele uitzondering na altijd mooie optredens.De kracht van VM is nog steeds zijn  unieke zijn stemgeluid, hij is nog steeds is staat zijn geweldige en uitgebreide repertoire uitstekend voor het voetlicht te brengen

3 By His Grace (album Hyms To the Silence)

 Daarbij weet hij ook altijd goede muzikanten om zich heen weten te verzamelen .Legendarische bandleden waren natuurlijk Pee Wee Ellis,Georgie Fame ,David Hayes,Alec Dankworth,Ritchy Buckly Ronny Johnson ,Brian Kennedy,om er maar een paar te noemen

 .Met zijn huidige band is hij ook al weer een paar jaar aan het toeren.Deze muzikanten benaderen langzamerhand ook het niveau van eerder genoemden,niet spectaculair maar een zeer goed op elkaar ingespeeld gezelschap.En ook belangrijk ,ze beheersen de kunst van "zacht" spelen,een verademing. De lange optredens zijn al weer een tijdje voorbij,maar in anderhalf uur weet VM met 22 songs een doorsnede te geven van zijn uitgebreide repertoire..

Een echte festivalsetlist met veel meezingers (crowdpleasers),een feestlijst noemen de echte die-hard VM fans dat.Dus geen "In The garden" etc maar toch ook prachtige nummers als By his Grace,Someone Like You,Enlightenment,The Beuaty Of The Day Gone By.

Van Morrison kreeg het toch weer voor elkaar ,hij bezorgde mij ,en de vele duizenden bezoekers een top avond.

Meestal  probeer ik wel een paar nummers te filmen,maar mijn eenvoudige toestelletje weigerde dienst.Gelukkig bleek een paar meter bij mij vandaan Huub Kurstjens te staan een echte die-hard VM fan,En mede dankzij hem (en nog een paar andere filmers) toch deze mooie opnames,alsnog bedankt Huub en de andere tapers!!

 "Like a Hurricane" is a song written by Neil Young in 1975 and first released on the album American Stars 'n Bars in 1977.

 The song was written in July 1975 with friend and La Honda neighbor Taylor Phelps in the back of his car—a DeSoto Suburban—when Young was unable to sing because of an operation on his vocal cords. Driven by Young's trademark fierce guitars, the song became a landmark of the 'electric side' of his concerts. The song has been played on nearly every tour Neil Young has done since. It has also appeared on the compilations Decade and Greatest Hits and on the live albums Live Rust, Weld and Unplugged (this last rendition is played almost entirely on a pump organ).(Wikipedia)

Louis Daniel Armstrong (New Orleans, 4 augustus 1901 – New York, 6 juli 1971) was een Amerikaans jazztrompettist, zanger en entertainer. Zijn bijnaam was Satchmo of Satch, een afkorting voor Satchelmouth (buidelmond). Hij was ook bekend als Dippermouth, net als Satchmo een referentie aan zijn grote mond. Door vrienden en collega's werd hij meestal aangesproken met Pops, een naam die hij zelf ook voor anderen gebruikte (met uitzondering van Pops Foster, die hij steevast George noemde).

Hoewel zijn carrière begon in de jaren twintig, kennen zelfs huidige generaties hem nog van nummers als What a wonderful world, Hello Dolly en It takes two to tango, die hij met zijn karakteristieke, rauwe stem vertolkte.

 "High Hopes" is the eleventh and final track from the 1994 Pink Floyd album The Division Bell, composed by David Gilmour with lyrics by Gilmour and Polly Samson. Its lyrics speak of the things one may have gained and lost in life, written from Gilmour's autobiographic perspective. Gilmour has said that the song is more about his early days, and leaving his hometown behind, than about the seeds of division supposedly planted in Pink Floyd's early days.

Ian Matthews and Judy Dyble provided the excellent vocals, while Richard Thompson was already a very inventive guitarist (see video). The music was very much based on the music of American bands such as The Byrds and The Mama,s & Papa, s. It was very special that they had music by the then completely unknown Joni Mitchell and the very underestimated singer / songwriter Emilh Rhodes in the repertoire.

In deze bezetting werd hun eerste album ,,Fairport Convention,, opgenomen.

Ian Matthews en Judy Dyble zorgden voor de uitstekende vocalen terwijl Richard Thompson ook toen al een zeer inventieve gitarist was(zie filmpje).De muziek was erg gebaseerd op o.a de muziek van amerikaanse bands als o.a The Byrds en The Mama,s & Papa,s.
Heel bijzonder was dat ze muziek van de toen nog totaal onbekende Joni Mitchell en de zeer onderschatte singer /songwriter Emith Rhodes op het repetoire hadden staan.

After the release of the first album, Judy Dyble left the band and was replaced by the legendary Sandy Denny.

"Midnight Rambler" is a song by the English rock band The Rolling Stones, released on their 1969 album Let It Bleed. The song is a loose biography of Albert DeSalvo, who confessed to being the Boston Strangler.
Keith Richards has called the number "a blues opera" and the quintessential Jagger-Richards song, stating in the 2012 documentary Crossfire Hurricane that "nobody else could have written that song."
                                                             

On the composing of the song, Mick Jagger said in a 1995 interview with Rolling Stone, "That's a song Keith and I really wrote together. We were on a holiday in Italy. In this very beautiful hill town, Positano, for a few nights. Why we should write such a dark song in this beautiful, sunny place, I really don't know. We wrote everything there -- the tempo changes, everything. And I'm playing the harmonica in these little cafes, and there's Keith with the guitar."When asked about the song in a 1971 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Richards said: "Usually when you write, you just kick Mick off on something and let him fly on it, just let it roll out and listen to it and start to pick up on certain words that are coming through, and it's built up on that. A lot of people still complain they can't hear the voice properly. Een wat vreemde locatie voor een optreden van Warren Haynes met de band Chessboxer.
Drie lange roltrappen , daarna nog een stukje traplopen te voet, en dan kom je in de zaal met de toepasselijke naam Cloud Nine.Mooie intieme zaal ,en achteraf uitstekend geschikt  voor een optreden van Warren en zijn band.

Vorig jaar  november zag ik Warren met deze band al in de NSJ club in Amsterdam,een indrukwekkend optreden (zie mijn impressie onderaan)Deze avond deed er niet voor onder.prachtig optreden.
