Little Feat - Dixie Chicken

Dixie Chicken is the third studio album by the American rock band Little Feat, released in 1973. The artwork for the front cover was by illustrator Neon Park and is a reference to a line from the album's third track, the song "Roll Um Easy". The music of Dixie Chicken reflects an influence from New Orleans R&B.

The album is considered their landmark album with the title track as their signature song that helped further define the Little Feat sound. This was augmented by two additional members (guitarist Paul Barrere and percussionist Sam Clayton) added to make the more complete and familiar lineup that continued until their 1979 breakup following the death of Lowell George. Bassist Kenny Gradney was brought in to replace original bassist Roy Estrada, who had left after the band's second album Sailin' Shoes to join Captain Beefheart's Magic Band. This new lineup radically altered the band's sound, leaning toward New Orleans R&B/funk.

1982 found Mink DeVille in the middle of the transition from their CBGB's New York punk origins to a more subtle, rootsier sound blending soul,
R & B, Cajun and other influences. Led by Willy DeVille, whose unique
style and inimitable gravelly voice always made them stand out from the crowd, Mink DeVille released their first album in 1977 and immediately had a huge hit with the track Spanish Stroll. By the time of this appearance at Montreux in 1982 they were touring in support of the fourth album Coup De Grace and the show features tracks from across their career to that point as well as a
couple of unreleased gems including their cover of the Ben E. King classic Stand By Me.

Blind Faith - Presence Of The Lord

Blind Faith were an English supergroup featuring Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Ric Grech. They were eagerly anticipated by the music press following on the success of each of the member's former bands, including Clapton and Baker's former group Cream and Winwood's former group Traffic, but they split after a few months, producing only one album and a three-month long summer tour.

On June 7, 1969, Blind Faith played Hyde Park in front of 120,000 people including Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull.

 

The short Scandinavian tour that followed the Hyde Park concert would reap additional praise as the players played smaller, less demanding venues and became tighter as a unit. Unfortunately, external problems with crowds and police during a July and August tour in the U.S. put a damper on any future plans for Blind Faith. They splintered a mere four months after the Hyde Park concert. Clapton took up with Delaney & Bonnie while Winwood, Baker, and Grech tried to carry on in the guise of Baker’s Air Force. Winwood and Grech left soon after to reform Traffic.

 Prine begon zijn muzikale carrière als folkzanger in Chicago op het einde van de jaren 1960. Hij was een vriend van singer-songwriter Steve Goodman en via Kris Kristofferson kreeg hij een platencontract bij Atlantic Records. Zijn eerste album, John Prine (1971) bevatte onder meer de song Sam Stone over een Vietnamveteraan die aan heroïne verslaafd geraakt en aan een overdosis sterft (Prine zelf had twee jaar legerdienst gedaan tijdens de Vietnamoorlog), en Angel from Montgomery. Dat nummer is vooral bekendgemaakt door Bonnie Raitt, die het op haar album Streetlights uit 1974 zette. Het is ook het finalenummer op haar live-cd Road Tested uit 1995.(wikipedia)

 Zijn eerste albums waren geen commercieel succes, hoewel ze goede kritieken kregen en Prine vestigde zijn reputatie als getalenteerd songwriter. Het album Common Sense uit 1975, geproduceerd door Steve Cropper was meer rock-georiënteerd en was zijn enige LP die de top-100 haalde in de Verenigde Staten. Voor Bruised Orange (1978), op zijn nieuw platenlabel, trad Steve Goodman als producer op. Pink Cadillac (1979) was dan weer een rockabillyplaat geproduceerd door de legendarische Sam Phillips en diens zonen in Memphis (Tennessee).

Zijn album The Missing Years (1991) werd zijn best verkochte album en won een Grammy Award als "Best Contemporary Folk Album". Gastzangers op het album zijn onder meer Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt en Tom Petty. Twee andere albums, German Afternoons uit 1986 en Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings uit 1995, kregen een Grammynominatie.

In 1992 maakte hij zijn debuut als filmacteur in Falling from Grace, een film geregisseerd door John Mellencamp.

                           THE SPEED OF THE SOUND OF LONELINESS

In 1998 werd bij hem kanker aan de keel vastgesteld. Na een operatie en radiotherapie kon hij daarvan herstellen en in 1999 kon hij In Spite of Ourselves uitbrengen, een plaat met duetten met bekende countryzangeressen, waaronder Lucinda Williams, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, Emmylou Harris, Iris DeMent, de Ierse zangeres Dolores Keane en zijn eigen vrouw Fiona. Ongewoon voor Prine is dat de nummers op de plaat op één uitzondering na niet van zijn hand zijn maar van countrygrootheden zoals Roger Miller, Hank Williams sr., Charley Pride en Jim Reeves. De ene nieuwe song was de titelsong van de plaat. Die zong hij samen met Iris DeMent en het nummer werd gebruikt bij de aftiteling van de film Daddy and Them van Billy Bob Thornton, waarin John Prine ook een rol vertolkte^[1]. Fair & Square, opgenomen in 2004 was zijn eerste album na Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings dat voornamelijk bestond uit nieuwe songs van zijn hand. Dit album won ook een Grammy Award voor "Best Contemporary Folk Album" van 2005.

Ana Popovic (13 mei 1976 Belgrado) is een Servisch-Amerikaanse blues- en jazzgitarist en singer-songwriter.

Popovic speelt sinds haar vijftiende gitaar. Vanaf 1995 vormde zij met drie anderen de band Hush. In 1998 ging ze in Nederland Jazz studeren en ging de band uit elkaar. Vanaf 1999 trad ze solo op. Sinds 2012 woont ze in het Amerikaanse Memphis.

  Hubert Charles Sumlin (November 16, 1931 – December 4, 2011) was a Chicago blues guitarist and singer, best known for his "wrenched, shattering bursts of notes, sudden cliff-hanger silences and daring rhythmic suspensions" as a member of Howlin' Wolf's band.^[2] He was ranked number 43 in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".(Wikipedia)

He was proficient in playing both the upright bass and the guitar, and sang with a distinctive voice, but he is perhaps best known as one of the most prolific songwriters of his time.  Calling Card is the sixth studio album and eighth album overall by Irish singer/guitarist Rory Gallagher. A 1976 release, it was his second of four albums released on Chrysalis Records in the 1970s. Deep Purple/Rainbow bass guitarist Roger Glover co-produced with Gallagher: it was the first time that Gallagher worked with a "name" producer and the only successful such collaboration.^[1] It was also the last album Gallagher would do with Rod de'Ath (drums) and Lou Martin (keyboards). After Calling Card, Gallagher retained only his long-time bass guitarist Gerry McAvoy and hired Ted McKenna on drums.

Walter Becker and Donald Fagen wrote this song for the 1978 movie FM, which takes place at a radio station and was the precursor to the television series WKRP in Cincinnati. Becker and Fagen performed the song in the movie, which came at a time when FM Radio was relatively new and catching up to AM in popularity. As the song points out, FM has a lot less static than AM, but at the time, a big selling point of FM radio stations was their ability to take chances by playing lesser known bands and album cuts.

Aaron Corthen, better known as A.C. Reed (May 9, 1926 – February 24, 2004) was an American blues saxophonist, closely associated with the Chicago blues scene from the 1940s into the 2000s.

Op 17 april 1964 wordt in Engeland het eerste, titelloze, album van The Rolling Stones uitgebracht. De opnamen zijn tussen op 3 januari en 25 februari 1964 in de Regent Sound Studios in Londen gemaakt. Andrew Loog Oldham, hun manager, heeft de LP geproduceerd.
