Richard George Manuel (Stratford (Canada), 3 april 1943 – Winter Park (Florida), 4 maart 1986) was een Canadese pianist, rock-zanger en songwriter die deel uitmaakte van The Band,


I Shall be Released(Bob Dylan)

Na Dylans vertrek voelde The Band zich vrij zijn eigen muziek te maken, wat resulteerde in een reeks invloedrijke albums, waarvan vooral Music from Big Pink (1968), The Band (1969), Stage Fright (1970) en Northern Lights - Southern Cross (1974) klassiekers zijn geworden. The Band gold nu als een van de belangrijkste groepen op het Noord-Amerikaanse continent. Richard Manuel's aandeel bestond uit het bespelen van niet alleen de piano, maar zo nodig ook allerlei andere instrumenten zoals drums en keyboards, terwijl zijn karakteristieke zangstem de sfeer van veel nummers bepaalde. In Bob Dylan's I shall be released had hij zich al onderscheiden door zijn falsetto-zang. Hij bleek een zeer wendbaar, maar altijd indringend en emotionerend, geluid te kunnen produceren in klassiek geworden nummers als Tears of Rage (waarvan hij co-auteur was), Lonesome Suzie, We Can Talk (beide door hemzelf gecomponeerd), Whispering Pines, King Harvest en The Shape I'm In.





De laatstejaren van zijn leven was Richard erg depressief ,mede door de drank en de cocaine Op 4 maart 1986 hing hij zich op in zijn hotelkamer in Winter Park, bij Orlando in Florida. Pas de volgende ochtend werd zijn lichaam gevonden, naast een lege fles Grand Marnier.

Focus - Hamburger Concerto

 Hamburger Concerto is the fourth studio album by the Dutch progressive rock band Focus. Released in 1974, it peaked at #20 on the UK charts. The title track is based on Variations on a Theme by Haydn by Johannes Brahms. The composition also incorporates the first two verses of the Dutch Christmas carol O Kerstnacht, schoner dan de dagen at around 15 min.

Roy Buchanan - His last session (1988)

                                                          

 When Fritz Bros first opened in 1988, Roy Buchanan, the legendary guitarist, was our partner. He was tragically killed soon after the initial marketing of the Roy Buchanan signature “Bluesmaster” guitar. This was a great loss not only to us but to his family and the world of music.

 

This is the last known video of Roy Buchanan and Roy is on fire showing off his  new guitar known as the Blues Master by The Fritz Brothers. This is the very raw and uncut version of Custom Made.

                                         

 Roy Buchanan is one of Me most influential Tele players who ever lived according to everyone. His playing turned the heads of listeners in many styles including, R&B, Metal, Rock, and Country. He is considered a master by his peers and fans. I am and always have been a huge Roy fan, and had the ultimate honor of being able to design and build him his signature guitar in 1987. Working together, we developed his guitar, the “Bluesmaster.” (The Fritz Brothers)
 

 

 

He was looking for something unavailable at the time, so 1 had to invent the features he wanted in a Tele style instrument, Roy bent a lot at the nut and had very strong fingers causing string breakage, as well as tuning problems with conventional nut materials. So I came up with the patented stainless nut to eliminate those problems. It really worked. It even increased the sustain of the guitar for more steel like smoothness. (The Fritz Brothers)

 

 

Roy did not enjoy his new guitar for long.  Just as his career seemed to be on the upswing once more, tragedy struck on August 14, 1988, when Buchanan was picked up by police in Fairfax, VA, for public intoxication. Shortly after being arrested and placed in a holding cell, a policeman performed a routine check on Buchanan and was shocked to discover that he had hung himself in his cell

Ten Years After - "I'd Love to Change the World"

                                         

A Space in Time is the sixth studio album by the British blues rock band Ten Years After. It was released in August 1971 by Chrysalis Records in the United Kingdom and Columbia Records in America. A departure in style from their previous albums, A Space in Time is less 'heavy' than previous albums and includes more acoustic guitar, perhaps influenced by the success of Led Zeppelin who were mixing acoustic songs with heavier numbers It reached number 17 in the Billboard 200.

Van Morrison plays Astral Weeks/Sweet Things (06-July-2018)

 THE sweet sounds of legendary Van Morrison chilled the hot summer crowd at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in a sell out concert.

One of the most prolific recording artists and live performers in music history, Sir Van Morrison, took to the Royal International Pavilion stage on Friday night, captivating the crowd with a myriad of Irish folk, jazz, blues and country music.
Morrison opened the show with a beautiful rendition of Astral Weeks, then launched straight into Sweet Thing. Both songs were released from the album of the same name 50 years ago in 1968, yet still resonate perfectly today and brought the audience to their feet

Joined by his eight-piece band, including his musical director, Paul Moran, Morrison barely drew breath for the following 90 minutes. This was his first appearance at the International Eisteddfod and he enchanted the entire pavilion with his largely improvised set, featuring favourites including Baby Please Don’t Go, Days Like This and Have I Told You Lately.
Morrison brought the show to a close and the audience to their feet with an exhilarating rendition of cult classic Brown Eyed Girl.
Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod Music director, Vicky Yannoula, said: “The audience was completely enthralled by Van’s unparalleled vocals and song writing talent, and by the support of his exquisite band. It was such a mesmerising performance and a wonderful start to our weekend.”

Veel overleden gitaristen op mijn blogje de laatste tijd.Maar hun prachtige muziek leeft dankzij het internet,DVD,s,CDs gelukkig voor altijd voort .Steve Ray Vaughan is ook zo,n mooi voorbeeld.Dit is een van zijn onvergetelijk mooie instrumentals ,een van mijn favoriete SRV nummers.

Na een lange dag van opnemen voor een van zijn albums vroeg Steve aan de producer om de taperecorder te laten lopen.Alleen in de studio nam hij de track op met zijn Fender Strat.Zijn band Double Trouble vulde later de begeleiding in,inclusief de bijdrage op organ van Reese Wynans.

 Een aantal leden van de The Swinging Soul Machine  heeft een tijd lang gespeeld onder de naam Machine.  Deze 8-mans formatie  heeft volgens mij 1 album en twee singles uitgebracht.

Naar mijn mening nog steeds een ijzersterke single.Doet me bij momenten erg aan Johnny Caljouw,s eerdere band Dragonfly denken. Haalde een No 11 notering in de Nederlandse Top40

                                           Albumhoes 

Machine toerde in Barcelona, Lloret de Mar, Palma de Mallorca, Logroño en Madrid. Daar kwamen zij in contact met een Franse nachtclubeigenaar, die de band een jaar lang in Frankrijk liet optreden. De groep trad op in onder meer Parijs, Cannes, St. Tropez en Monaco, onder andere geprogrammeerde met Johnny Halliday, Santana, Aphrodite's Child en Vince Taylor.

Keith Moon (23 Aug 1946-7 Sept.1978)

Keith John Moon (London,23 Augustus 1946-7September 1978) was drummer van de rockgroep The Who. Hij werd geboren in Londen in 1946, hoewel hij zelf later aan zou geven dat hij een jaar later was geboren.
Vandaag is het 33 jaar geleden dat Keith is overleden,deze filmpjes zijn een eerbetoon aan deze zeer controversiële en bijzondere originele drummer uit de geschiedenis van de Rock muziek.

Mooi,zeer relaxt optreden van John Lee Hooker op het op het Smithsonian Folklife Festival in 1983.

It Serves Me Right to Suffer


Hij werd geboren in Clarksdale, Mississippi in een muzikale familie, en als neef van Earl Hooker.
Ook al stotterde hij in gewone gesprekken, wanneer hij zong, viel dat niet op. Zijn half-gesproken zangstijl werd zijn handelsmerk. Zijn muziek was ritmisch vrij, een eigenschap die teruggevonden wordt bij veel van de akoestische Delta Blues-muziek.
Aangetrokken door fabriekswerk verhuisde Hooker naar Detroit in 1943, waar hij zou blijven tot in 1969. Hij voelde zich perfect thuis in de nabijheid van de blues-saloons in Hastings Straat, dé plaats in Detroits oostkant voor entertainment voor zwarte burgers.

Hooker begon zijn carrière in 1948 met de hitsingle "Boogie Chillen", opgenomen in een studio nabij de Wayne State Universiteit. Hij voerde vooral solo liedjes uit; hij werd populair bij de blues-aficionados, folkfans uit de vroege jaren 60, en bekoorde ook het witte publiek. Ook bood hij de jonge folk hero Bob Dylan indertijd een aantal kansen.
In 1989 begon hij een groepssessie met een aantal muzikanten, onder wie Bonnie Raitt en Carlos Santana, om The Healer op te nemen - dat een Grammy won — een van de vele prijzen. Daarnaast werkte hij samen met onder anderen Miles Davis, Bonnie Raitt en Los Lobos. Hooker heeft ook verscheidene liedjes opgenomen met Van Morrison, zoals Never get out of these blues alive, The healing game en I cover the waterfront. Ook trad hij verscheidene keren op met Van Morrison, waarvan sommige nummers op het live-album A night in San Francisco te vinden zijn.


Maudi,I Miss You So

 John Lee Hooker heeft gedurende zijn leven meer dan 100 albums opgenomen. De laatste jaren van zijn leven vertoefde hij rond de baai van San Francisco, in Californië, waar hij een nachtclub toestemming had gegeven om de naam Boom Boom Room te gebruiken, naar één van z'n hits.
Hookers laatste opname vond plaats met de Italiaanse zanger Zucchero in de lente van 2001. Voor diens nummer "Ali D'Oro" (lett. Gouden Vleugels), van het album Shake, zong de bluesman nog het refrein in: "I lay down with an angel."

 Hooker werd ziek vlak voor hij aan een tour door Europa wilde beginnen, in 2001. Hij stierf niet lang daarna op 83-jarige leeftijd. Hooker liet acht kinderen, negentien kleinkinderen en vele achterkleinkinderen na.
