Robin Leonard Trower (Catford, 9 maart 1945) is en Brits gitarist, in eerste instantie succesvol met Procol Harum en daarna met zijn eigen trio, de Robin Trower Band.

 Trower bespeelt van jongs af aan de Fender Stratocaster, en Fender heeft een signature Robin Trower gitaar gefabriceerd

 In 1975 Bill Lordan joined Robin Trower's band debuting on the album For Earth Below. He stayed with Trower until 1981, his last recording during his stint being the B.L.T. album with Jack Bruce.
He played with the Darrell Mansfield Band and the Dave Steffen Band before starting his own band, The Bill Lordan Experiment, in 2000

James Dewar (12 October 1942 – 16 May 2002) was a Scottish musician best known as the bassist and vocalist for Robin Trower and Stone the Crows, the latter having its beginnings as the resident band at Burns Howff in Glasgow.

  At Dykebar Hospital in Paisley, Scotland, Dewar died in May 2002 of a stroke after years of disability reportedly resulting from a medical error which damaged his brain in 1987. His funeral was held at Paisley's Woodside Crematorium

"Cortez the Killer" is a song by Neil Young from his 1975 album, Zuma. It was recorded with Young's band Crazy Horse. It has since been ranked #39 on Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitar Solos and #329 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Young has stated in concert that he wrote the song while studying history in high school in Winnipeg. According to Young's notes for the album Decade, the song was banned in Spain under Francisco Franco. According to El País and book author Xavier Valiño, the album Zuma was released in Spain in full following Franco's death, with the song renamed to the less inflammatory title "Cortez."

George Harrison (Liverpool, 25 februari 1943 - Los Angeles, 29 november 2001) was gitarist van de legendarische popgroep The Beatles. Hij maakte vrijwel vanaf het begin deel uit van de groep. Hij werd geboren in het Engelse Liverpool.


Something (Abbey Road)

Zijn muzikale loopbaan begon op school, waar hij in de band 'The Quarrymen' speelde, samen met zijn vrienden John Lennon en Paul McCartney, die hem bij Lennon introduceerde. Met Paul, John Lennon, Stuart Sutcliffe en Pete Best (later vervangen door Ringo Starr) vormde hij in 1959 de band 'Silver Beatles'. Daarna de Beatals en in 1960 veranderden ze de naam in 'The Beatles' en werden ze gevraagd in Duitsland op te treden. Dat was het begin van het succesverhaal van de groep, dat tien jaar geduurd heeft.

Als componist werd hij binnen de Beatles overigens naar eigen zeggen nooit helemaal erkend, ondergesneeuwd als hij werd door het grote(re) succes en de dominantie van het koppel Lennon-McCartney. Pas in 1969 werd Harrison door de critici muzikaal op een lijn gesteld met Lennon en McCartney na het verschijnen van de elpee Abbey Road waarop zijn composities Something en Here Comes The Sun staan.

In november 1968 werd de eerste soloplaat van Harrison uitgebracht onder de titel Wonderwall Music. Het jaar erop verscheen Electronic Sounds waarop Harrison met de minimoog-synthesizer experimenteerde. Nadat McCartney de Beatles in april 1970 had verlaten ging ieder zijns weegs. Harrison begon een solocarrière. Nog in 1970 verscheen zijn derde album All Things Must Pass, met daarop de grote hit My Sweet Lord. Het is meteen een driedubbel album: het is duidelijk dat Harrison wil laten horen wat hij al die jaren niet kwijt kon op de Beatles-albums. 'All Things Must Pass' is een klassiek album van de jaren '70. Volgens velen zou hij later het album kwalitatief ook niet meer overtreffen.

Na de moord op John Lennon in 1980, maakten de overige Beatles in 1981 als eerbetoon aan hem samen het nummer All Those Years Ago, wat een hit werd in de Verenigde Staten. Het nummer is geschreven door George Harrison en staat op het album Somewhere in England.

Cloud Nine is een comeback album voor Harrison. Met Got My Mind Set on You' en 'When We Was Fab' keert hij terug in de hoogste regionen van de hitparade.

Eind jaren 80 heeft Harrison veel succes als prominent lid van de band Traveling Wilburys. Deze band maakt twee albums maar gaat ten onder door het overlijden van Roy Orbison en kort daarop de dood van diens beoogde opvolger Del Shannon.

In 2002 verscheen postuum zijn laatste album Brainwashed. Het album is afgemaakt door zoon Dhani Harrison en ontving lovende kritieken.

 Elizabeth (Libba) Cotten (Chapel Hill, 5 januari 1893 - Syracuse, 29 juni 1987) was een Amerikaans folk- en bluesmusicus. Ze introduceerde een eigen tokkelmethode omdat ze als linkshandige een rechtshandige gitaar bespeelde. Haar bekendste lied is Freight train dat ze op twaalfjarige leeftijd schreef.




In 1972 werd ze voor haar aandeel in de folkmuziek onderscheiden met de Burl Ives Award. In 1987 werd ze kort voor haar dood onderscheiden met een Grammy Award voor haar livealbum uit 1984.^[1]

Het Newport Jazz Festival word elke zomer gehouden in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. Voor het eerst in 1954, georganiseerd door jazz impresario George Wein en gepromoot doorElaine Lorillard waarvan haar rijke man hielp met de financiering van het festival .
De meeste van de vroege festivals werden uitgezonden op de Voice of America radio en vele optredens werden opgenomen en zijn uitgegeven door verschillende platenmaatschappijen.
