Eilen Jewell & Band - Bleusclub De Viersprong (3 Nov.2017)

Het programma van deze club,de naam zegt het al,bestaat meestal uit bluesmuziek.Diverse uitstekende bands ,uit buiten en binnenland ,in dit genre stonden hier al op het podium.Een van de heren (Hans)heeft een wat bredere smaak,die kom ik dan ook regelmatig tegen bij Americana en Rootsmuziek concerten.Een van de  favorieten van ons is toch wel Eilen Jewell.,we zagen haar al diverse keren optreden Ik was dan ook blij verrast dat ,ik denk toch wel door zijn inbreng,dat deze dame voor de tweede keer hier op het podium stond.

De muziek van Eilen Jewell is doorgaans een mix van C&W,Folk,Americana,maar met haar nieuwe album heeft ze ook een uitstapje naar de blues gemaakt.Dus een optreden in deze "bluesclub"was toch wel op zijn plaats.                                          

Deze avond bracht Eilen Jewell een mooie selectie uit haar ondertussen uitgebreide repertoire.Natuurlijk kwam Loretta Lynn voorbij,maar ook veel nummers van het nieuwe album Down Hearted Woman en o.a het heerlijk melancholieke "Santa Fe". Een toegevoegde waarde tijdens haar optreden is natuurlijk gitarist Jerry Miller .Schijnbaar uit de losse pols tovert die man de een na de andere solo uit zijn gitaar,wat een gigant!
 Alles bij elkaar een prachtige muzikale avond,genoten!!

Uiteraard mag het nieuwe album niet ontbreken in de verzameling Het blijkt een zeer aangenaam album te zijn met een zeer mooi geluid (met dank aan producer en echtgenoot Jason Beek)

De laatste twee keer dat ik Gov,t Mule in aktie zag was op festivals,tijd voor weer eens een volledig optreden Paradiso is natuurlijk de perfecte locatie,het zou een prachtige avond worden.Het eerste uur werd gevuld met het gebruikelijke Mule repertoire,de stemming zat er gelijk in.

De band had besloten de hele zg.Halloween set te wijden aan de Engelse rockband FREE.Een mooie selctie uit het repertoire van deze geweldige band.

                        Antoine "Fats" Domino Jr. (February 26, 1928 – October 24, 2017)

De veelzijdigheid van ,,Good Old,,Neil word weer eens onderstreept door deze mooie opname.Dit optreden was tijdens een benefietconcert voor de slachtoffers van de Katrina ramp in New Orleans.Een prachtige cover van Fats Domino,s Walking To New Orleans ondersteund door de complete cast van de film,,Heart Of Gold,, incl,The Jubilee Singers.

Walking to New Orleans is een song van Bobby Charles,speciaal geschreven voor Fats Domino.Fats had al eerder een Bobby Charles song opgenomen ,en toen hij tijdens een tournee Lafayette aandeed nodigde hij Bobby uit in zijn kleedkamer om een copy van van zijn nieuwe plaat te overhandigen en vroeg hem op visite in zijn huis in New Orleans.Het antwoord van Charles was "I don't have a car. If I'd go, I'd have to walk." En zo ontstond het nummer ,,Walking To New Orleans,,


Bobby Charles, artiestennaam van Robert Charles Guidry, (Abbeville (Louisiana), 21 februari 1938 - Louisiana, 14 januari 2010) was een Amerikaans singer-songwriter.
Charles groeide op in Louisiana, waar hij in contact kwam met de cajunmuziek. Later begaf hij zich meer op het pad van de rock- en bluesmuziek. Als tiener schreef hij het lied See You Later Alligator. Het nummer werd ingezongen door Bill Haley and His Comets en werd in 1956 een hit in de Verenigde Staten. In 1960 bracht Fats Domino Walking to New Orleans uit.

Kate McLeod - Ramblin Roots Festival (21 Okt.2017)

De Amerikaanse Kate MacLeod is een singer-songwriter en violiste die folk met americana mengt.

Charles Sawtelle van de legendarische bluegrassband Hot Rize lanceerde haar in 1995. Sindsdien bouwde ze een indrukwekkende carrière uit. Nog steeds bekleedt ze een vooraanstaande positie in de internationale folkscene. Kenners situeren Kate MacLeod in de traditie van de legendarische Carter Family. Ze deelde het podium met grote namen als Rosanne Cash en Dan Fogelberg.

 
Veel te zien en te horen op het mooi Ramblin Roots Festival in Utrecht Bekende namen  voor mij waren o.a Doug Seegers,Jesse Dayton Hackensaw Boys ,Michael Chapman,Johnny Lang  .De naam van deze dame Kate Mcleod had ik al horen vallen in verband met Tim O Brian,voldoende redenen om het optreden te bezoeken.Het was mooi en ingetogen,prachtige songs en gitaar/vioolspel.Mooi optreden!!

The Sadies - Ramblin Roots (Tivoli Utrecht -21 Okt 2017)

      The Sadies  Ik kende de naam ,maar niet hun muziek Het  Ramblin Roots Festival was dus een mooie gelegenheid voor een nadere kennismaking.

 De band is zo,n 20 jaar geleden opgericht door de gebroeders Dallas en Travis Good en spelen samen met bassist Sean Dean en drummer Mike Beltisky nog steeds in dezelfde samenstelling.
Hun muziek word beschreven als een mix van Surf, cool cowboy psychedelia, electric bluegrass, spaghetti western soundscapes, garage punk,whats in a name.

Het optreden was een zeer aangename verrassing,van de eerste tot de laatste minuut boeiend.Prachtig gitaarspel,mooie samenzang,prima rythmsectie.
                                                          

Bijzonder is ook de link tussen The Sadies en onze eigen Outsiders uit Amsterdam.In In de wereld van de Amerikaanse garage-rock scene zijn  Ronnie Splinter  en Wally Tax echte culthelden,Een nummer werd dan ook opgedragen aan Wally Tax.Samengevat,een zeer geslaagd optreden op een toch al prachtig RamblinRoots Festival.
