Roy Buchanan - "Misty" (Erroll Gardner)

From  thePBS Documentary "Introducing Roy Buchanan" 1971
Also Known as "The Greatest Unknown Guitarist In The World"

.The quality of the images is not great, but what a beautiful documentary about the life of Roy Buchanan. Special recordings of a visit by Roy and his family to his parents in Pixley, California. Beautiful stories from Roy about his difficult life as a professional musician. in the strangest locations and about his drug use. Also a nice insight into America in the 60s. But the most beautiful are of course the musical fragments, jams with Johnny and Shuggie Otis, Merle Haggard and Mundell Lowe. The absolute musical highlight of the film for me is the performance of "Misty" with Mundell Lowe's band

"Misty" is a jazz standard written in 1954 by the pianist Erroll Garner. Originally composed as an instrumental following the traditional 32-bar format and first recorded for Garner's 1955 album Contrasts, the tune was later paired with lyrics by Johnny Burke and became the signature song of Johnny Mathis, appearing on his 1959 album Heavenly and reaching number 12 on the U.S. Pop Singles chart later that year. Country and pop singer Ray Stevens had a number 14 hit with his cover version of "Misty" in 1975 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has been recorded many times, including versions by such artists as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.

Paul Brady & friends,The Embankment Pub,Tallaght,Dublin(1976)

It had been on the shelf for a while, an item about the Irish guitarist singer/songwriter Paul Brady. You also regularly come across his name on weblogs such as Van Morrisson's, so it is high time to do something about this. I also had to keep my promise I still have to redeem one of my loyal readers, Elsa. These are recordings from a pub in Tallaght broadcast by the Irish TV station TG4. The name of the program was "Ar Staitse", which means "On Stage". He is accompanied by Andy Irvine: Bouzouki, Harmonica, Mandolin-Donal Lunny: Guitar, Bouzouki and Ary McGlynn: Pedal Steel Guitar. With these musicians he was also in the group Planxty.

It would become Dónal's most important instrument for more than thirty years.
