                     Ik heb singer/songwriter Ellen Shae leren kennen tijdens de mooie themavonden van "Songs Of The Heart" in De Spot in Middelburg.Zong en speelde ze tijdens die avonden liedjes  van andere artiesten (o.a Bonnie Raitt) Dat ze met haar eigen songs goed uit de voeten kan had ze al bewezen met haar albums My Window,Clouds en nu haar laatse Caged Birds

  Cuby + Blizzards, also known as Cuby & the Blizzards, were a Dutch blues group, founded in 1964 by vocalist Harry Muskee and guitarist Eelco Gelling.

  During the 1960s, the band's mixture of sound, drawing upon a variety of genres which included blues and rock and roll, gave them a pioneering sound which was completely different from any other Dutch band in the same period                            

 

Things I Remember

The spelling of the name varies, with 'Cuby' also written as 'QB' and the ampersand (&) also written as 'and' or '+' and the 'and' sometimes left out. The spelling 'Cuby + Blizzards' was used on the first albums.

John Winston Lennon (Liverpool, 9 oktober 1940 – New York City, 8 december 1980)
Gisteren zou John 72 jaar zijn geworden,helaas het mocht niet zo zijn,
op 8 december 1980, om tien minuten voor elf in de avond werd Lennon voor zijn huis in het Dakota gebouw aan 72nd Street vermoord door die halve gare Mark David Chapman met een .38 Charter Arms-revolver.

Het was een koude avond die elfde februari 1964 in Washington DC.
In het het plaatselijke Coliseum theater daarintegen was het bloedheet.
The Beatles gingen voor het eerst live optreden op Amerikaanse grond en de verwachtingen waren hoog gespannen.Het publiek werd eerst opgewarmd met groepen als The Carravels ,Tommy Roe en the Chiffons.

The Beatles komen op en wat een fantastische chaos!Om iedereen van het optreden te laten genieten had men een draaibaar drumstel gecreeerd en moest tussen de nummers regelmatig de opstelling worden veranderd.De mannen worden er niet warm of koud van en hebben duidelijk plezier in het hele gebeuren.

Het concert duurde ongeveer een uur en was mischien wel een van hun meest memorabele optredens.Tickets varieerden van $2 tot $4,

Tom Waits at Teatro Ariston, San Remo, Italy (1986-11-22)

Tom Waits, geboren als Thomas Alan Waits (Pomona (Californië), 7 december 1949) is een Amerikaans zanger, componist, schrijver en acteur. Zijn stem kan omschreven worden als een lage, rauwe, bijna grommende stem, en soms hees fluisterend.

Prachtig optreden van Tom Waits tijden het San Remo festival van 1986.
In het mooie Teatro Ariston speelde hij ,alleen begeleid door bassist Greg Cohen een selectie uit zijn reptoire.Hier een paar van mijn persoonlijke favorieten..


Downtown Train

"Downtown Train" komt van het album Rain Dogs uit 1985.

Rod Stewart nam een cover versie en bereikte hiermee een 3e plaats in the Billboard Hot 100,nummer 1 in Canada en de top 10 in the UK Singles Chart 1990.
Ook artiesten als Mary Chapin Carpenter,Patty Smyth Everything But the Girl en Bob Seger coverden het nummer


Jersey Girl

Waits schreef dit nummer samen met zijn toekomstige vrouw Kathleen Brennan,die in New Jersey gewoond had.

Waits vertelde in een interview uit 1980 "I never thought I would catch myself saying 'sha la la' in a song ... This is my first experiment with 'sha la la.'"
