                                                        End Of The Line (Shades Of Two Worlds) 

Shades of Two Worlds is the tenth studio album by the Allman Brothers Band. Among the tracks are several longer songs of varying genres: the rock song "Nobody Knows"; jazzy instrumental "Kind of Bird"; and the blues-rocker "Get On with Your Life". Dickey Betts wrote or co-wrote five of the eight songs. Newer member Warren Haynes also has co-writing credits on five songs, while namesake Gregg Allman is only credited on two songs. There is also a Delta Blues cover of Robert Johnson's "Come On in My Kitchen".

The instrumental track "Kind of Bird" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 34th Annual Grammy Awards in 1992

Ik herinner me nog dat een artikel in muziekblad Oor uit 1997 aanleiding voor me was om me eens wat meer in Townes van Zandt te verdiepen.Met het ouder worden(ahum)krijg je een wat bredere kijk op de muziek ,ook het concertbezoek past zich dan wat aan en stonden er steeds meer singer/songwriters op het programma.Automatisch kom je dan bij Townes terecht want bijna al deze artiesten hebben wel een song van Townes van Zandt op het repetoire.

De muziek Townes Van Zandt's is een soort introspectieve country-folk /blues met teksten recht uit het hart en met niet te vergeten prachtig gitaarspel. Soms erg triest maar soms ook erg vrolijk en humoristisch.

Volgens de verhalen was Bob Dylan een grote fan van Townes en had hij alle platen van Townes in zijn bezit.Op 21 Junie 1986 hadden de twee voor het eerst een ontmoeting met elkaar in Austin Texas.Later bezocht Dylan Townes in zijn camper en werd er langdurig (muzikaal)van gedachten gewisseld.

Blaze kwam in 1989 om het leven bij een ongelukkig schietincident.
Hij schreef het lied op Blaze,s gitaar en hoe hij aan die gitaar kwam vertelt hij zelf in bovenstaant fragment

Van Zandt word wel een cult muzikant genoemd en een songwriter's songwriter. Steve Earle,een van Townes beste vrienden zei eens over hem
"the best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that. De quote was geprint op een sticker die op de hoes zat van een van Townes ,s albums At My Window.Van Zandt reageerde met "I've met Bob Dylan's bodyguards and if Steve Earle thinks he can stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table, he's sadly mistaken."

Townes was was met zijn muziek een insperatiebron voor artiesten als
Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Nanci Griffith, Cowboy Junkies, Vetiver, Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, Simon Joyner, Caleb Followill of Kings Of Leon, Meat Puppets, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Hoyt Axton, Tindersticks, Devendra Banhart, Norah Jones, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, The Be Good Tanyas, Gillian Welch, the Dixie Chicks, and Garth Brooks,Willie Nelson en vele anderen. Steve Earle eerde Van Zandt met het schrijven van "Fort Worth Blues" als herinnering aan de nacht van zijn dood. In 2009 bracht Steve Earl het tribute album "Townes".uit.(zeer aanbevolen!)
