Neil Young - Star Of Bethlehem
"Star of Bethlehem"'s lyrics are about coming to terms with the end of a relationship. The song was originally intended to conclude the shelved album Homegrown in 1975. Its lyrics are inspired by Young's breakup with Carrie Snodgress. Young would debut the song on tour with CSNY with an additional verse. In a 1975 Cameron Crowe interview for Rolling Stone, Young indicated a fondness for the track and an eagerness to release it, singling out the "beautiful harmonies" of Emmylou Harris

Laura Nyro - Eli and the Thirtheenth Confession (1968)
Sunday afternoon, time for vintage records ......
The recently shown documentary about David Geffen was the reason to get this LP out of the closet again. David Geffen became her manager shortly after Laura's performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. They got along so well that they founded a publishing company together called Tuna Fish Music. The proceeds from Laura's previous compositions were divided among themselves, and many of her songs were sold to other artists such as Blood Sweat & Tears, Peter Paul & Mary, Fifth Dimension and others. The new contract gave Laura Nyro more artistic freedom and produced what I consider to be her most beautiful album, the beautiful Eli and the Thirteenth Confession
Poverty Train (Eli and the Thirteenth Confession) live at Monterey 1967
In 1969, David Geffen and Laura Nyro sold Tuna Fish Music to CBS for $4.5 million. A good deal, it made them both millionaires. In 1971, David Geffen started his own record company, Asylum Records. Naturally, Laura Nyro was the first to be asked, but to Geffen's great disappointment, she signed with Colombia Records. David said in the documentary that this was one of the biggest disappointments of his life, and a great friendship was over.
In my opinion, a wrong choice by Laura, in contrast to her career, The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Warren Zevon, Linda Rondstadt and others from David Geffen's stable all went very well.
In 1971, Nyro married carpenter David Bianchini. She also reportedly felt uncomfortable with her celebrity status and retired from the music business at the age of 24.
In 1973, her Verve debut album was acquired and reissued by Columbia as The First Songs.
Three Dog Night - Eli,s Comin (Laura Nyro)
Eli's Comin' is track no. 6 of the album. Three Dog Night released the song on the albums Captured Live at the Forum and Suitable for Framing.
Blood Sweat & Tears - And When I Die (Laura Nyro)
During the recording of Eli.., Luara was asked to sing for Blood, Sweat & Tears, but David Geffen advised against this. Blood, Sweat & Tears did score a hit with "And When I Die".
Fifth Dimension - Stone Soul Picknick (Laura Nyro)
The members of 5th Dimension loved this song and were very surprised that it was written by a 20 year old girl from New York named Laura Nyro. Later they recorded several more of her songs including "Sweet Blindness," "Blowin' Away" and “Save The Country.” (thanks, Ken - Louisville, KY
In 1996, Laura Nyro was diagnosed with cancer, just like her mother She died on April 8, 1997 at the age of 49
