Little Village - Don't Think About Her When You Are Trying to Drive

Little Village was an American/British rock band, formed in 1991 by Ry Cooder (guitar, vocal), John Hiatt (guitar, piano, vocal), Nick Lowe (bass, vocal) and Jim Keltner (drums). Each of the group's members had previously worked on Hiatt's 1987 album Bring The Family, and formed in 1991 while on a break from their own musical projects.

Don't Think About Her When You Are Trying to Drive

Little Village is the only studio album by the band Little Village. The band, a super-group comprising Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner, released the album, went on a tour of the US and Europe to support it, and disbanded the year of its release. They had previously worked as a group while recording Hiatt's solo album Bring the Family in 1987. Although all songs are credited to all four group members, Hiatt sang all but three, with two sung by Lowe and one by Cooder. "She Runs Hot", "Solar Sex Panel" and "Don't Go Away Mad" were released as singles. The Solar Sex Panel EP contained a new non-album track "Do With Me What You Want to Do" written by Cooder/Hiatt/Keltner/Lowe and sung by Lowe, as well as a cover of the novelty song "Haunted House", originally released by Jumpin' Gene Simmons in 1964, and sung by Cooder. "Do with Me What You Want to Do" was also included as a B-side on the "Don't Go Away Mad" single (Wikipedia)

At the Grammy Awards of 1993, Little Village was nominated for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Little Village - Do You Want My Job... door  morrisanddylan

The group's name was initially (and jokingly) announced as Hiatus. It was soon changed to Little Village, in reference to the foul-mouthed in-studio diatribe by Sonny Boy Williamson II, on a Chess reissue album titled Bummer Road. The group released its only album, Little Village, in early 1992. The songs were composed by all four group members and mainly sung by Hiatt, although Lowe took lead on two songs and Cooder one. While the album was met with general commercial indifference, it was nominated in 1993 for a Grammy Award as Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or a Group. The album peaked at #23 in the UK Albums Chart.(Wikipedia)

Nick Lowe later said, "Little Village was really good fun. Unfortunately, the record we did was no good. I suppose on some level, it worked, but Warner Brothers kind of gave us too much time to do it."
Little Village toured the U.S. and Europe in 1992 to support the album, but the group disbanded later that year.

Little Village-The Late Show (BBC 2) 1992

THE ACTION

Little Village is geformeerd in 1992 en bestond uit Ry Cooder (guitar, vocal), John Hiatt (guitar, piano, vocal), Nick Lowe (bass, vocal) and Jim Keltner (drums).

FOOL WHO KNOWS

DON'T THINK ABOUT HER WHEN YOU'RE DRIVING

Na het uitkomen van het Little Village album volgende een tournee door Amerika en Europa.o.a in Ahoy in Rotterdam welke ik helaas gemist heb.

John Hiatt

In 2008 kwam de plaat Same Old Man uit, in 2010 gevolgd door The Open Road.

Jim Keltner
James Lee "Jim" Keltner (Geb. April 27, 1942) heeft met ontelbaar veel artiesten samengewerkt...
Leon Russell, Gabor Szabo, Delaney Bramlett, Roy Orbison, Harry Nilsson, Jerry Garcia, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Joe Cocker, Van Dyke Parks, the Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood, Bill Wyman, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Brian Wilson, Seals and Crofts, The Ramones, Bill Frisell, Neil Young, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Phil Keaggy, Steve Jones, Crowded House, Fiona Apple, Elvis Costello, The Bee Gees, Jackson Browne, The Manhattan Transfer, Randy Newman, Ry Cooder, Sam Phillips, Los Lobos, Pink Floyd, Warren Zevon, Rufus Wainwright, Tom Petty, Gillian Welch, the Steve Miller Band, Alice Cooper, Sheryl Crow and Lucinda Williams en vele anderen. Jim vertelde over deze sessie "it was a monumental session for me because it was such a touching song, it was the first time I actually cried when I was playing".

Nick Lowe
Nicholas Drain Lowe (Walton-on-Thames, 24 maart 1949) is een Brits singer-songwriter en producer. Hij schreef onder andere “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding,” dat een hit voor werd Elvis Costello, en “Cruel to be kind”. Zijn grootste hit in de Benelux was "Half a Boy and Half a Man", een nummer dat hij in aangepaste versie zelfs nog speelt tijdens zijn tour met Ry Cooder in 2009.

Lowe werkte samen met veel artiesten, waaronder Dave Edmunds, The Damned, Elvis Costello, Paul Carrack en The Pretenders.

Onlangs verscheen zijn trilogie: Chavez Ravine, My name is Buddy en I, Flathead.
