Bonnie Raitt (Burbank (Californië), 8 november 1949) is een Amerikaanse zangeres, liedjesschrijfster en gitaarspeelster.


Angel of Montgomery Mooi nummer van John Prine
met Bruce Hornsby,Brian Adams,en Jackson BrownZe is de dochter van Broadway musicalster John Raitt. Ze begon gitaar te spelen toen ze twaalf jaar oud was. Na de middelbare school begon ze in Rhythm and Bluesclubs te spelen. In 1983 werd ze geloosd door haar platenlabel, Warner Bros. Records, onder andere vanwege alcohol- en drugsgebruik, maar verdween allerminst uit de muziekscene.

Na meer dan 20 jaar opnames en optredens, bereikte Bonnie Raitt succes met haar tiende album. "Nick of Time" kwam in de top te staan in de Verenigde Staten en won drie Grammy Awards. Tegelijk kreeg ze een vierde Grammy voor haar duet "In the Mood" met John Lee
Hooker op zijn album "The Healer".

Michael Bloomfield - Gonna Need Somebody On My Bond

 

Michael Bloomfield (1943-1981), an American musician, guitarist, and composer, born in Chicago, Illinois, became one of the first popular music superstars of the 1960's to earn his reputation entirely on his instrumental prowess. Respected for his fluid guitar playing, Bloomfield, who knew and played with many of Chicago's blues legends even before he achieved his own fame, was one of the primary influences on the mid-to-late 1960's revival of classic Chicago and other styles of blues music. In 2003 he was also also ranked at number 22 on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

"You'll Need Somebody on Your Bond" (later titled "You're Gonna Need Somebody on Your Bond") is a gospel song that is attributed to both tradition and to gospel blues musician Blind Willie Johnson. Johnson first recorded the song in December 1930, although Delta blues musician Charley Patton recorded a similar "You're Gonna Need Somebody When You Die" in October 1929. Over the years, several other musicians have recorded renditions of the song.

On February 15, 1981, Michael Bloomfield’s body was discovered in a parked car on a San Francisco side street. The 37-year-old Jewish blues guitar player, one of the most influential of the 1960s, was dead of a drug overdose. The body lay, unrecognized, in the morgue for days.

Aretha Franklin - Live Concertgebouw Amsterdam 1968

Veel mooi concerten meegemaakt ,ook in het concertgebouw, maar bij dit ,heerlijk chaotische gebeuren was ik helaas niet aanwezig.
In 1968 gaven Aretha Franklin en haar vaste achtergrondkoortje The Sweet Inspirations een legendarisch concert in een afgeladen Concertgebouw te Amsterdam.De avond tevoren had ze al opgetreden in De Doelen en nu was Amsterdam aan de beurt.Aretha had pas drie albums uitgebracht en het was haar eerste optreden buiten de Verenigde Staten. Nederland gaat voor de bijl,Aretha geeft geeft daar alle aanleiding toe, want zelfs haar ballads swingen als de neten.


Satisfaction

Gelijk bij de opener Satisfaction werd zij bestookt met bloemen uit het publiek dat al springend de veringen van de stoelen tot het uiterste beproefd. Hierop werd het streng toegesproken door de presentator die eist dat de aanwezigen onmiddellijk gaan zitten op straffe van afgelasting van de show. De rest van het optreden zitten de meeste bezoekers vrij ongemakkelijk te swingen op hun zitplaatsen. Wie durft op te staan wordt resoluut teruggeduwd in zijn stoel door de beveiliging, totdat niemand meer te houden is en men zich staat te verdringen voor het podium.i


Soul Serenade

Het Parool was erbij en meteen de volgende dag verscheen een recensie door Michiel de Ruijter. Hij was diep onder de indruk van het concert dat Aretha Franklin die nacht had gegeven in het Amsterdamse Concertgebouw. De Ruijter had 'diepzwarte, opwindende muziek' gehoord. In de zaal heerste 'een maximum geladen elektrische sfeer' en wat Aretha Franklin en haar band brachten klonk als 'een soort bezweringsformule van motorische muziek'.

Aretha Franklin was 26 jaar toen ze hier optrad,het was haar eerste ,en voorlopig ook haar laatste buitenlandse tounee.Ze had ,en heeft enorme vliegangst en haar optredens bleven dan ook meestal beperkt tot eigen land.Pas 10 jaar later zou ze terugkeren .Van het optreden dat Franklin in 1968 gaf in Parijs, verscheen meteen dat jaar al een live-album.

Dat moeten ze vaker doen. Snuffelen in de archieven. Bassist Hans Mantèl viste unieke beelden uit een vergeten archief: Aretha Franklin in het Concertgebouw Amsterdam in 1968. En blijven zoeken Hans.Er waren zoveel mooie concerten,ik noem The Byrds,Janis Joplin The Doors(minus Jim)enz.
