The Byrds live at Hugh Hefner,s Play Boy After Dark TV Show

On September 28, the McGuinn-White-York-Parsons version of The Byrds debuted on, of all things, Hugh Hefner's Playboy After Dark TV show, performing "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" and "This Wheel's On Fire," another Bob Dylan song demoed with The Band in Woodstock and no doubt heard that year on The Band's debut, Music From Big Pink. Not only was this one of the first shows for the post-Hillman Byrds lineup*, it's the first documented performance, to my knowledge, of Clarence playing his StringBender, which you can hear him work to great effect at the beginning of "Nowhere." I'm reasonably certain this was also the only gig in the band's career in which scantily clad go-go dancing and brandy snifters figured prominently. So you wanna be a rock 'n' roll star, indeed!

Clarence White
Clarence White (born Clarence LeBlanc) (June 7, 1944 – July 15, 1973) was a guitar player for Nashville West, The Byrds, Muleskinner, and the Kentucky Colonels. His parents were Acadians from New Brunswick, Canada. The father, Eric LeBlanc, Sr., played fiddle, guitar, banjo and harmonica, and his children, Roland, Eric Jr., Joanne and Clarence took up music at a young age.


Gene Parsons
Gene Victor Parsons is an American drummer, banjo player, guitarist, singer-songwriter, and innovative engineer, best known for his work with The Byrds from 1968 to 1972. Parsons has also released solo albums and played in bands including Nashville West, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Parsons Green. Parsons is credited with inventing the B-Bender (also known as the StringBender) along with Clarence White and the device is often referred to as the Parsons/White B-Bender, a trademarked name.


John York
John Foley York is an American bassist and guitarist, born in White Plains, New York on August 3, 1946. He is best known for his work with The Byrds, who he joined in September 1968 as a replacement for the band's original bass player Chris Hillman. He remained with the group until September 1969, when he was fired by the other three members of the band and replaced by Skip Battin.[3] Despite only being with The Byrds for a year, his bass playing and singing appear on two of the group's studio albums, Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde and Ballad of Easy Rider, as well as on the non-album single "Lay Lady Lay". York also wrote the song "Fido", which appears on Ballad of Easy Rider, and co-wrote the song "Candy", which is included on Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde. He also appears on the Columbia/Legacy Byrds' live album Live at the Fillmore - February 1969.


Roger Mcguinn
James Roger McGuinn (known professionally as Roger McGuinn, previously as Jim McGuinn, and born James Joseph McGuinn III on July 13, 19http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif42)[1] is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is best known for being the lead singer and lead guitarist on many of The Byrds' records. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with The Byrds.

Het is nog steeds rustig rond ,,Van The Man,, Zondag 19 Juni 2011 een concertje in het Finsbury Park van London ,en voor de rest blijf het angstig stil.Er zal voor dit optreden toch een band gevormd moeten worden,dus zal er toch ook wel een tourneetje volgen.In afwachting hiervan duiken we nog maar eens in de archieven,zo kwam ik dit optreden tegen in Belfast dat in teken stond van zijn toen pas uitgebrachte album ,,The Healing Game,,

The Wall - Gelredome(Arnhem) 11-04-2011

11Juni 1967 en 17 febr 1968 Op deze twee dagen trad Pink Floyd in het voormalige Concertgebouw (het huidige Arsenaal) in Vlissingen.Een toen nog onbekend Engels bandje ,dat behalve een aparte naam ook een voor die tijd bijzonder muziek liet horen.De herinneringen  zijn vervaagd ,wat ik nog wel weet dat het loeihard was en dat Dragonfly in het voorprogramma zat.

Van The Wall was nog lang geen sprake maar we zouden nog van veel Pink Floyd concerten getuige zijn.

Jeugdvriend Frans(ook een echte muziekliefhebber)en ik zijn altijd met elkaar in contact gebleven . Tijdens een ontmoeting bij Brainbox concert in Middelburg afgelopen najaar werd besloten naar het concert van Roger Waters in Arnhem te gaan,44 jaar na dat legendarische Pink Floyd concert in Vlissingen

De oorspronkelijke versie van ‘The Wall’ dateert alweer uit 1979. De show die bij dit album hoorde is toen maar op een paar plekken integraal live uitgevoerd. Anno 2011 is een concert van die grootte gezien de aanwezige techniek van nu makkelijker uitvoerbaar. Vandaar dat Roger Waters er nu de wereld mee rondtourt.


Run Like Hell

Het werd een gigantsich visueel spektakel,geluid uit alle hoeken van de zaal,een vliegtuig sloeg te pletter tegen ,,The Wall,,vuurwerk,een groot varken zweefde door de zaal(kenden we al van de P.F concerten)De dame voor me keek regelmatig verschrikt om zich heen en kromp regelmatig in elkaar,wat weer erg komisch was. Roger Waters is nu 68 jaar, maar weet nog steeds een rockshow van formaat neer te zetten.Met de steeds vernieuwde technieken ontstaat een spektakel dat zijn weerga niet kent en kwam in het Gelredome, goed uit de verf .

Ik had het niet willen missen en we kunnen terugkijken op een geweldig spektakel.
En binnenkort in het Sportpaleis van Antwerpen,dat is vlak in de buurt,dus wie weet ga ik nog een keer.

The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem

 

The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem are a family of Irish singers and musicians who have made Irish music extremely popular, both in Ireland and in the United States where they emigrated. The brothers were; Liam, Paddy, and Tom Clancy; later Tommy Makem joined. They contributed greatly to the renewal of the folk revival in the fifties and sixties of the last century. Tom and Pat emigrated to the USA in the early 1950s and became actors. Liam and his friend Tommy Makem, born in Keady, County Armagh the son of ballad singer Sarah Makem, went to the U.S. in 1956.

The Clancys performed and made albums until 1969; then Makem decided to pursue a solo career and later Liam left the group in 1975 and was replaced by his brother Bobby Clancy and their cousin Robbie O'Connell. Later Liam formed a duo again with Tommy Makem. The original members later reunited only for memorial concerts.

Tom Clancy died in 1990 and his brother Paddy died of cancer in 1998. An RTE news clip showed the funeral where Liam and Bobby Clancy, Ronnie Drew, Finbar Furey and Paddy Reilly, accompanied by John Sheahan, sang The Parting Glass and thus paid tribute to an interpreter of Irish traditional music. Bobby Clancy died on September 9, 2002. Liam had a close friendship with Luke Kelly of The Dubliners and shared their songs with each other. Ultimately, The Clancys and Tommy Makem produced 55 albums and toured numerous times in Ireland, Great Britain and the USA. Het mag bekend zijn dat ik al een aantal jaren fan ben van Eilen Jewell en haar schitterende bandje.Als ze in Nederland of Belgie zijn ben ik meestal van de partij,niet alleen voor zangeres Eilen ,maar zeker ook voor gitarist Jerry Miller,een fenomeen!Binnenkort komt er een nieuw album van de band ,,Queen of the Minor Key,,hier alvast en voorproefje.

Naast zijn carriere als soloariest werkte Lonnie ook samen met artiesten als The Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughan, James Brown, Freddie King, Joe Simon, Ronnie Hawkins, Albert Collins, Roy Buchanan, Dobie Gray ,de zonen van blueslegende Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, en vele anderen.

Roy Buchanan (September 23, 1939 - August 14, 1988)Ook wel de pionier van de Telecaster sound genoemd.Roy Buchanan. Begin de jaren ’70 kwam deze als blanke blues-gitarist geboekstaafde Amerikaan aan de oppervlakte. Toch schuwde hij geen uitstapjes naar de jazz-rock of hardere rock. Toen hij aangezocht werd om Brian Jones bij de Stones te vervangen, weigerde Buchanan, het strookte niet met zijn muzikale opvattingen.
