Het is rustig romd om ,,The Old Grey Cat,van een nieuw album is mij niets bekend,wel weet ik dat hij in Mei gaat toeren in de States(solo).Wie weet steekt hij in het najaar de grote plas over,van mij mag hij.Zolang kan ik niet wachten dus daarom maak ik er maar een Neil Young week van.We beginnen met zijn optreden in Torhout 1993 samen met Booker T &The MG,s De avond van tevoren was ik er getuige van dat hij de Ahoy op zijn kop zette.Een geweldig concert Booker T en Neil bleken een geweldige combinatie te zijn,hoogtepunten een prachtige uitvoering van All Along The Watchtower(Neil en Arthur volledig uit hun dak)en een heel bijzondere Dock of the Bay.

"Mr. Soul" is geschreven door Neil Young en kwam voor het eerst uit op het tweede album van Buffalo Springfield .Opgenomen 9 Januari 1967 in de Atlantic Studios, New York .
Neil zei er zelf over:
"A lot of songs take a long time to write. Generally they take an hour and a half, two hours to write. But this one took only five minutes."

Dusty Springfield - The Motown Revue UK Tour 1965

These recordings are from a TV Special with Dusty Springfield, recorded at the Rediffusion TV Studios in London on March 18, 1965. Many big Motown names such as The Miracles, the Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye were present.

Dusty Springfield presented the weekly TV Pop show Ready Steady Go (with the opening line..The Weekend Starts Here) And since she was a big fan of Motown, this was a great opportunity to present this music to a larger audience.

The subsequent tour through England, however, was not a success, the country was still completely under the spell of groups such as The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, etc. The Motown artists were still relatively unknown and therefore received little airplay on the radio stations. The result was poor ticket sales and performances in half-full halls.

Ultimately it was a brave decision by Dusty to make this special, it certainly contributed to popularizing Motown music in England


Dusty Springfield Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien (Hampstead (London), April 16, 1939 – Henley-on-Thames (Oxfordshire), March 2, 1999) Springfield started the trio The Springfields in the early 1960s with her brother and another boy. A well-known hit of theirs was Little Boy from 1962. Other songs were Silver Threads and Golden Needles and Island of Dreams. The trio split up in 1964 and she started her solo career. Springfield was one of the most popular British singers of the sixties with no fewer than seventeen hits. With You don't have to say you love me she reached first place in the English hit parade in 1966. Her album 'Dusty in Memphis' is considered a pop classic, especially because of her beautiful soul-influenced voice. After 1970 her popularity ended. In 1974, the song 'Summer is over' from 1964 became a minor hit because Radio Veronica used it in the campaigns to preserve this offshore station. In 1987 she made a short-lived comeback under the tutelage of the Pet Shop Boys, which lasted several years. Dusty Springfield died at the age of 59 from breast cancer. Despite this, her influence is still very great on current British blue-eyed soul singers, such as Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Joss Stone

Net als veel andere singer/songwriters schreven Rebecca Folsom en Celeste Krenz veel songs voor andere artiesten.Beide hadden verschillende startpunten (Folsom komt uit Colorado, Krenz uit North Dakota),maar ze eindigden in Nashville .Tijdens een gezamelijk optreden bleken hun stemmen prima bij elkaar te passen en besloten ze als duo verder te gaan.Wat mij betreft een goede beslissing

Krista Detor De Wegwijzer 17-4-2010

De Wegwijzer is ,,de ,, plaats voor de muzikale fijnproever.Vele prachtige concerten mogen meemaken van bekende en voor mij onbekende artiesten.Het is dan ook de ideale gelegenheid voor het singer/songwriter genre.Een muistil en aandachtig luisterend publiek en een geluidsman(Aarnout)die van wanten weet.Afgelopen zaterdag was ook weer zo,n verassende avond.Zijdelings had ik wel van Krista Detor gehoord maar me niet echt in haar muziek verdiept.Maar wat een pracht concert!Krista heeft niet allen een heerlijke stem(alt?) ,ze schrijft prachtige songs en begeleid zichzelf op piano.Echtgenoot Dave en bassist Mike zorgen met zang en gitaarwerk voor een ingetogen begeleiding.De mooie foto,s van dit concert zijn van Hans Janssen .

Dat Hans en zijn kornuiten uitstekende programeurs zijn wisten we natuurlijk al lang.
Als je artiesten als Danny Bryant,Johnny Mastro,The Nimmo Brothers,Memo Gonzales,Ralph de Jongh e.a weet te strikken voor een concert,dan weet je dat je een geweldige bluesavond te wachten staat.Afgelopen vrijdag hadden ze het wel erg bont gemaakt,een in Zuid Frankrijk wonende Canadees begeleid door Russische studiomuzikanten,hoe verzin je het!De naam,Wolf Mail.Ik had er nog nooit van gehoord,maar eerlijk is eerlijk,ook dit was weer een uitstekende keus.

Na een wat aarzelen begin ,begon hij goed warm te draaien.Een mix van Blues en Funk.
Dat Wolf erg beinvloed artiesten als Albert Collins , Roy Buchanan en Curtis Mayfield was goed te horen.
Guitar Player Magazine Japan noemde hem al “The new Blues master of the Telecaster”.

Wolf doet meer dan 110 de shows per jaar toerend door de U.S, Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan en Rusland. Ron Edmonds van Exclusive Management zij het als volgt "You always get something out of a Wolf Mail show, if you don't relate to his songs you will sure relate to the intense passion he's got for them". En daar ben ik het volledig mee eens.

"It's a Man's Man's Man's World" is een klassieker geschreven door James Brown en Betty Jean Newsome. Brown nam het 16 February 1966 op in New York .

Het nummer staat sinds 1991 op het repetoir van Van en hij speelde het zo,n 160 maal live.

Anthony "Duster" Bennett (23 September 1946 – 26 March 1976) was a British blues singer and musician

Bennett was born in Welshpool, Powys, Mid Wales. Emerging in the late sixties from the art school music scene of Kingston-upon-Thames and Guildford, Bennett was a one-man blues band whose virtuosity and co-ordination on drums, guitar and harmonica was as riveting as it was unique. His live sets combined his own compositions with Jimmy Reed-style blues standards often aided by friends Peter Green and Top Topham. He was a session musician in the early 1960s playing harmonica. Between 1968 and 1970 he seemed ever-present on John Peel's Top Gear and Sunday-repeated-on-Wednesday shows, gigged prodigiously and eventually joined John Mayall's Bluesbreakers as band member/solo act on a US tour in 1970. In the 1970s he drifted off into more whimsical mainstream material, but never landed the hit record his catchy and accessible tunes deserved.

His music was country blues with the occasional gospel offering. He recorded three albums and a string of singles for Blue Horizon. Bright Lights was recorded live at his beloved Gin Mill Club. He was very popular amongst the blues cognoscenti, while his legacy on Smiling Like I'm Happy was the haunting Jumping at Shadows, subsequently covered by Fleetwood Mac and revived in 1992 by Gary Moore, who covered it in his "After Hours" album. It is considered by some to be one of the best blues compositions penned on the east side of the Atlantic. Attempts to gain wider appeal with Mickie Most were unsuccessful. For decades, a clutch of live and home recordings on Indigo seemed to be all that remained of his work in the CD public domain until the 2006 first-time CD release of the Complete Blue Horizon Sessions reminded fans of what had been lost.

After performing with Memphis Slim on 26 March 1976, Bennett was driving home in a Ford Transit van in Warwickshire when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The van collided with a truck and Bennett was killed.
