Deep Purple (feat.Richie Blackmore) - Smoke On The Water (12 Aug,2026, Jones Beach)

Ritchie Blackmore has returned to the stage with Deep Purple. The 81-year old guitarist, who co-founded the band in 1968, joined them onstage at the 15,000-capacity Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York (Louder)

Blackmore hadn't played with the band since departing under acrimonious circumstances after a show in Helsinki, Finland, in November 1993, and his relationship with frontman Ian Gillan has remained frosty.(Louder)

However, earlier this week, during an Instagram Live post, Blackmore revealed that he had reached out to Gillan to ask if he could appear at the show in Wantagh, a short drive from his home on Long Island.

"I sent my A.I. pigeon to Ian Gillan in Portugal, where he lives at the moment," said Blackmore (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). And I said, How would you feel about if I got up just for an encore? Just one of the songs. I don't want to intrude. And I said, No pressure - just kind of [for] old times' sake.' I'm 81 now. So he seemed to love the idea, put it to the band, got a thumbs up, and it looks like we might be doing that."

And now they have. Blackmore joined Deep Purple onstage at the climax of a 100-minute set to perform Smoke On The Water, a song powered by his most famous riff. After the song, Gillan told the story of Blackmore reaching out before introducing him.(Louder)

Wishbone Ash - Vas Dis/Jailbait (BBC 1971)

Wishbone Ash are a British rock band who achieved success in the early to mid-1970s

"Vas Dis" was an old Jack McDuff jazz piece that Wishbone Ash had been performing live for some time as an exercise in turning a jazz number into a rock tune. The band rehearsed it in the studio, not realising that producer Derek Lawrence was recording, and it was this rehearsal take that appeared on the album.

The live favourite "Jailbait" was composed "in about ten minutes" at a pub in Exeter, and came about as a joint band effort through jamming together. As the vocalist on this song, Ted Turner wrote a few lines of a lyric, which he completed with the help of drummer Steve Upton in about half an hour

Pilgrimage is the second studio album by British rock band Wishbone Ash, released 1971.

Glen Hansard & Jack Johnson - I Shall Be Released/Gloria

This creation of this film was totaly spontaneous. I was in Italy with Glen Hansard to direct two music video promo's for his new album. While we were there Glen had a gig in Ferrara, and I accompanied him shootingt B-Roll to include in the video for his song 'No Mountain'. There was some time to spare before his performance and we wandered in to a backstage area only to be met by the legend Jack Johnson and his band, who were sitting there with their instruments, warming up. Glen was then invited to jam a song with them, and I happened to have my camera with me.

None of it was planned. The audio is from my camera, and I asked a friend Andrea Scarso to help me capture the concert audio on their phone. I asked Glen's good friend Seán to film a wide from on-stage with my phone. Both results were surprisingly great! If you had asked me before this event, did think it possible to shoot a live concert performance with only one camera, a phone and no audio from the desk, I would have laughed at the idea and yet here's the evidence that such spontaneous efforts can be rewarded!

                                       Glen Hansard (Dublin, 21 april 1970 - aldaar, 29 juli 2026) R.I.P.

Glen Hansard (born 21 April 1970) is an Irish songwriter, actor, vocalist and guitarist for the Irish group The Frames, and one half of folk rock duo The Swell Season. He is known for his acting, having appeared in the BAFTA-winning film The Commitments

Astral Weeks (album Astral Weeks )

Morrison described the song "Astral Weeks" as being: "like transforming energy, or going from one source to another with it being born again like a rebirth. I remember reading about you having to die to be born. It's one of those songs where you can see the light at the end of the tunnel and that's basically what the song says." Morrison told Steve Turner that he was working on the song back in Belfast in 1966 when he visited painter Cecil McCartney who had drawings on astral projection "and that's why I called it "Astral Weeks"

Harry Muskee & Eelco Gelling - Window Of My Eyes (1993)

"Window Of My Eyes" mijn absoluut favorite Cuby + blizzards tune.

De tekst op de kei luidt "through the window of my eyes" Harry Muskee 1967

Bob Dylan with Robbie Robertson at Glasgow Hotel Room 1966

Here is a rare recording showing how Bobby goes about inventing his masterpieces. He is jamming with The Band (previously known as The Hawks) guitarist, Robbie Robertson. It was taped in a room at the Millennium Hotel (then called the North British Hotel) in Glasgow, Scotland on May 18, 1966

Dylan and Robbie Robertson in a Glasgow hotel room writing and working through new songs, most of which remain unreleased and unpublished. Among these songs are "I Can't Leave Her Behind", which was later covered by Stephen Malkmus for the I'm Not There soundtrack.
