John Mayall "USA UNION" LIVE!!

  
USA Union is a 1970 album by blues musician John Mayall, featuring Harvey Mandel on guitar, Larry Taylor on bass and Don "Sugarcane" Harris on violin. The album was recorded on July 27 & 28th, 1970 at Larrabee Studios in LA and released by Polydor later in the same year .



Off the road

 At the end of the sixties John Mayall was residing in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, California and had developed connections with local musicians, befriending Harvey Mandel and Larry Taylor, who had both just departed Canned Heat. Taylor had appeared on one track of Mayall's previous album, Empty Rooms, the only studio recordings of his "Turning Point" band, and stayed on to replace Stephen Thompson (with whom he duetted on "To a Princess"); Mandel essentially replaced acoustic guitar specialist Jon Mark, and electric violinist Harris replaced saxophonist Johnny Almond.

 In the USA Union liner notes, Mayall noted that, after the Turning Point band broke up, he'd played a British music festival with an all-star lineup and then needed to form a new band swiftly when Polydor Records pressed him for a new album.

 The USA Union lineup would appear as some of the core of Mayall's Back to the Roots set, which featured several notable Mayall alumni including Eric Clapton, John McVie, Mick Taylor, Stephen Thompson and previous drummers Keef Hartley and Aynsley Dunbar. Mayall would keep the drumless format for just one more album, Memories, where Jerry McGee replaced Harvey Mandel as guitarist.

Don "Sugarcane" Harris (born Don Francis Bowman Harris, June 18, 1938[1] - November 30 (or December 1), 1999) was een Amerikaanse rock & roll violist en gitarist.Vormde jarenlang een duo met zijn jeugvriend Dewey Terry Harris onder de naam Don & Terry .Hoewel ze zelf geen hits hadden waren ze wel verantwoordelijk voor bekende nummers als "Farmer John", "Justine", "Leavin' It All Up to you", en "Big Boy Pete," hoofdzakelijk uitgevoerd door andere artiesten

Larry Taylor (born Samuel Taylor, 26 June 1942, New York) meest bekend als bassist van Canned Heat Hiervoor was hij sessie bassist voor The Monkees en Jerry Lee Lewis.

 Tempest is the 35th studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on September 10, 2012 by Columbia Records. The album was recorded at Jackson Browne's Groove Masters Studios in Santa Monica, California. Dylan wrote all of the songs himself with the exception of the track "Duquesne Whistle", which he co-wrote with Robert Hunter of the Grateful Dead

 

Ry Cooder at Koninklijk Theater Carré, Amsterdam, Netherlands (May 7 - 1982)

 When RC is in the area I always try to be there. In 1982 I was late for the tickets in Amsterdam, but for the show in Brussels, three days later I had better luck. I have a beautiful hall here (Palais des Beaux-Arts), and in my memory about the same setlist. The tour was as part of Ry's new album "The Slide Area" (the pictures are not from this concert)

Hour Glass (feat.Duane & Gregg Allman) - B.B/King Medley

                           

Hour Glass was a 1960s rhythm and blues band based in Los Angeles, California in 1967 and 1968. Among their members were two future members of the Allman Brothers Band (Duane Allman and his brother Gregg) and three future studio musicians at the Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama (Pete Carr, Johnny Sandlin and Paul Hornsby).

The medley of tracks 2, 3 & 4 ("Sweet Little Angel", "It's My Own Fault" and "How Blue Can You Get" was probably the inspiration for 'Hour Glass' to record their own "B.B. King Medley" on April 22, 1968 at Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals,

 

Aretha Franklin feat.Duane Allman - The Weight (1969)

Aretha Franklin looks on from the back of the control room during the playbacks of "The Weight" sessions. Producers Jerry Wexler and Arif Mardin, engineer Tom Dowd and session guitarist Duane Allman are also in the New York studio on January 9th, 1969.

                                                                  

Fifty years ago, this set of photographs was captured showing the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, recording The Weight.  You might remember it as the anthem penned by members of The Band: “I pulled into Nazareth, just a feelin’ ’bout a half past dead…”

Released on her Soul ’69 album, the song also featured the slide guitar of Duane Allman, of Allman Brothers fame.

 

 

The session took place on January 9th, 1969 in the New York City studios of Atlantic Records, Aretha’s home since 1966. Prior to that, the prodigiously talented singer had been arguably miscast, recording a range of jazz and pop albums for another label, none of which allowed her to shine.

 

But Atlantic producer Jerry Wexler had a different idea: “I took her to church, sat her down at the piano, and let her be herself.”

And what Wexler discovered—a fact often overshadowed by her formidable voice—was that Franklin was also a highly talented pianist and musical arranger. She went into vast written detail about the sound she was seeking, and how to achieve it. The Queen of Soul, yes, but also The Queen of the Studio. 

 

 

Golden Earring - The Wall Of Dolls.

 

Golden Earring is the self-titled album by Dutch rock band Golden Earring, released in 1970. Fans often refer to it as Wall of Dolls due to the cover artwork. This is the first Golden Earring album with drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk as a member. From that time, all four members of the band on this album have remained in the lineup.

"Comin' in on a Wing and a Prayer" is a World War II song with lyrics by Harold Adamson and music by Jimmy McHugh, published in 1943 by Robbins Music Corp.The lyrics tell of a bomber aircraft and its crew returning from a mission. The mission has been a success ("we really hit our target for tonight"), but the aircraft was damaged in combat and has lost one engine: nevertheless, the crew is unharmed and in good spirits as it limps towards its home airfield, "on a wing and a prayer". The song was recorded by the Song Spinners for Decca Records, reaching number one on the Billboard pop chart on July 2, 1943 (Wikipedia)

 

The Jumping Jewels - Dakota(1963)

De Haagse gitaargroep The Jumping Jewels was gebaseerd op de Fender Stratocaster-sound van The Shadows. Vooral ook door toedoen van hun manager Herman Batelaan wist de groep met zijn professionele aanpak een internationale status te bereiken. Met hun zanger Johnny Lion (Jan van Leeuwarden) hadden zij in de periode 1961-1965 een enorm groot succes in Nederland. In de zalen speelden zich vaak wilde taferelen af met hysterische fans. .

 

Dakota De bezetting bestond naast Lion uit Hans van Eijk (sologitaar), Tjibbe Veelo (slaggitaar), Joop Oonk (basgitaar), Frits Tamminga (drums). De laatste werd in 1963 vervangen door Cees Kranenburg jr.
