"Truckin'" is a song by the Grateful Dead, which first appeared on their 1970 album American Beauty. It was recognized by the United States Library of Congress in 1997 as a national treasure. The single reached number 64 on January 27, 1971 on the U.S. Pop Singles chart and stayed there for eight weeks. "Truckin'" was the highest-charting pop single the group would have until the surprise top-ten performance of "Touch of Grey" 16⅔ years later.

                                          Sound Hole

In the early 70s Sound Hole became Van Morrison's back-up band. A friend of John Farey who had been painting some covers for Van Morrison introduced the band to Van. Months later Van called the band and Sound Hole went on the road with him, backing him up for several months. One of Sound Hole's concerts with Van Morrison - July 29, 1974 at The Orphanage, San Francisco, CA, was even televised on PBS.

  "Listen to the Lion" was first recorded during the sessions for Morrison's third solo album Moondance in 1969 but not used. The longer eleven minute version that is featured on the Saint Dominic's Preview album was recorded during the 1971 sessions at the Columbia Studios in San Francisco and intended for the album Tupelo Honey.

 "Listen to the Lion" was one of the 1001 Songs written about in the 2006 book by critic Toby Creswell who says in part: "Listen to the Lion has almost no words, just the phrase 'Listen to the Lion inside of me'...He sings the phrases like an incantation, sometimes desperate and longing for love and at other times boasting of the power of his passion; and then at other times he sings in despair that these emotions have brought him nothing but ruin. He doesn't need to speak, there's nothing more to be said..."

Nog even een terugblik op het TTBconcert afgelopen Woensdag 30April in Brussel. Een optreden wat aan alle verwachtingen voldeed,van de eerste tot de laatste minuut boeiend.Een mix van soul ,blues en jazz,met een uitblinkende Derek Trucks op (slide)gitaar en de prachtige vocalen van Susan Tedeschi.Dat alles begeleid door een 10 koppige band.Dat het optreden van Johnny Lang door ziekte niet doorging was al snel vergeten,het betekende wel een extra lang TTB.Ondanks een enorme verkeersschaos in Brussel waren ruimschoot op tijd om een mooi plaatje voor het podium te veroveren. (zie de foto,s)Dat via DimeaDozen ook de geluidsopnames van het concert beschikbaar kwamen was een mooie bijkomstigheid en kwam ik tot deze samenvatting.(met dank voor de taper mdekoning) De volgende nummers werden gespeeld:

Tot zover een paar momenten uit een prachtig concert.Samen met mijn muziekvrienden Freek en Caren hadden we een geweldige avond.Dat Brussel nog nog steeds een bruisende stad is bleek na afloop tijdens de gezellige nababbel in een sfeervol cafeetje.Op weg naar de auto nog even een fotootje geschoten en met een tevreden gevoel reden we weer op op huis aan.

The Turtles - She,s My Girl

The Turtles was een popgroep uit Los Angeles (Californië) in de jaren 60 van de 20e eeuw. Ze zijn het bekendst van hun single "Happy Together". Nadat de band stopte, in de jaren 70, gingen de twee hoofdbandleden, Howard Kaylan en Mark Volman, door als Flo and Eddie en zongen nog samen met Frank Zappa.

 

Nadat ze het nummer acht maanden lang live hebben gespeeld, besluiten The Turtles het bij de fans populaire "Happy Together", geschreven door Garry Bonner en Alan Gordon, op te nemen in de studio. Hun lijflied en grootste succes, zou later blijken. Het stoot The Beatles (met hun single Penny Lane) van de nummer 1-positie en staat daarna zelf drie weken op de hoogste notering in de Amerikaanse hitlijsten van 1967. Het album met dezelfde naam wordt uitgebracht in april en komt tot nummer 25 in de hitlijst. Onder de indruk van het werk dat Douglas voor de band heeft verricht, vraagt Monkee Michael Nesmith hem na een Turtles-show om de nieuwe producer van The Monkees te worden. Douglas accepteert het aanbod, en verlaat The Turtles, hij wordt vervangen door bassist/zanger Jim Pons. 1967 wordt het meest succesvolle jaar voor The Turtles', met nog een nummer wederom geschreven door het duo Bonner en Gordon, "She'd Rather Be With Me", wat in de lente nummer 3 bereikt in de US hitlijsten. Met de verdere top-15 singles, "You Know What I Mean", en "She's My Girl", geven The Turtles aan een nieuwe psychedelische muzikale koers te gaan varen. Het verzamelalbum Golden Hits wordt later in dat jaar uitgebracht en behaalt de top 10.
