Golden Earring - Going To The Run (George R.I.P.)

George Kooymans, the co-lead singer and guitarist of the Dutch rock band Golden Earring, has passed away at 77 years of age. An attorney for the band has stated that Kooymans passed away due to his suffering from ALS. “We say goodbye to a great musician and composer whose work extended beyond Golden Earring. George was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, but above all, a friend,” a statement read.

Golden Earring (until 1969 The Golden Earrings) was a Dutch rock band. The group was founded in 1961 and was the oldest surviving rock band in the Netherlands at the time of its dissolution in 2021.[1] It was also one of the longest-established bands in the world at the time. Golden Earring has had international success with the hits Radar Love, Twilight Zone and When the Lady Smiles, and their albums Moontan and Cut


Going to the Run is a song by the Dutch rock band Golden Earring from 1991. It is the first single from their album Bloody Buccaneers. "Going to the Run" is about a Hells Angel who has died in an accident. The line "One summer at the festival" refers to a summer at Parkpop(Festival with more then 200 000 visiters).
