         20 18 is nog niet voorbij maar toch kan ik al terugkijken  op een prachtig  concertjaar.Een jaar met  met veel generatiegenoten  die nog steeds aktief zijn ,en hoe!Ik zag dit jaar o a Graham Nash,Bonnie Raitt,David Crosby,artiesten die ik al heel mijn leven volg.Allemaal  nog steeds in staat een prachtig optreden te geven,,met een geweldige instrumentbeheersing en bovenal nog prima bij stem!Datzelfde geld zeker ook voor Ry Cooder.natuurlijk nog steeds een meester op de gitaar ,maar ook zeer goed bij stem.  Volgens mij zing hij beter dan ooit.Als je dan ook nog zo,n vocaal trio als The Hamiltons in je band hebt weet je zeker dat het goed zit.De setlist was een selectie uit   zijn uitgebreide repertoire,en enkele nummers van zijn nieuwe album "The Prodigal Son "Een bijzondere rol was er voor de saxofonist Sam Gendel in de band Onopvallend maar zeer belangrijk voor het totaal geluid .Hoogtepunten ga ik niet noemen,het hele concert was een hoogtepunt.Ik was niet van plan om een filmpje te maken ,maar tijdens de toegift kon ik het toch niet laten.Het was een onvergetelijke avond.........

Buck Owens - Cryin" Time

"Crying Time" is a song from 1964 written and originally recorded by the American country music artist Buck Owens. It gained greater success in the version recorded by Ray Charles, which won two Grammy Awards in 1967. Numerous other cover versions have been performed and recorded over the intervening years

Owens recorded the original version of his song and released it as the B side to the 45 single "I've Got a Tiger By the Tail" in 1964, Capitol 5336, but it failed to reach the music charts. A cover version of "Crying Time" was then recorded by R&B singer Ray Charles, and his version proved to be a hit. Featuring backing vocals by the Jack Halloran Singers and The Raelettes, the song reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in February 1966


                                    
Charles' version of the song also peaked at number five on the R&B chart and spent three weeks at number one on the easy listening chart.^[3] In the United Kingdom, the song reached number 50 on the UK Singles Chart.^[4] In addition, Charles' version of "Crying Time" won two Grammy Awards in 1967, in the categories Best R&B Recording and Best R&B Solo Performance.[1



                                                     
 Charles intended his version of Owens' song to be a tribute to the country music style he appreciated (Charles had successfully covered other country music songs in the past, such as "I Can't Stop Loving You"). He was quoted as saying that he didn't record "Crying Time" and other country songs written by Owens "out of disrespect for Buck. I'm crazy about Buck. But I heard something that fit my style. The key was keeping my style while watching my style work in different ways."



                                   
Ray Charles and Barbra Streisand memorably performed the song as a duet on her 1973 soundtrack album from her CBS television special Barbra Streisand...And Other Musical Instruments. This cover was featured in the episode, "The Glass Is Always Cleaner", of the NBC drama series Las Vegas. Streisand also included a solo version of the song on her 1974 album ButterFly.



Lorrie Morgan recorded a cover of the song for the soundtrack to the 1993 film The Beverly Hillbillies. Her version peaked at number 59 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.

John Platania  ben ik de laatste jaren enkele malen tegengekomen tijdens zijn optredens met ChipTaylor.Een aardige,bescheiden man,die geduldig staat te wachten tijdens de soms wat lange monologen van Chip.Toch blijft hij voor mij onlosmakelijk verbonden met Van Morrison.De klank van zijn gitaar en zijn losse manier van spelen geven de VM concerten altijd wat extra,s.Dit nummer is daar ,denk ik, een mooi voorbeeld van.

 "Have a Little Faith in Me" is a song written and performed by John Hiatt that appears on his 1987 album Bring the Family. His version of the song has also appeared on the soundtracks of the movies Look Who’s Talking Now (1993), Benny & Joon (1993), The Theory of Flight (1998), Cake (2005), My Best Friend’s Girl (2008), Love Happens (2009), and Father Figures (2017). Live versions were included on 1994’s Hiatt Comes Alive at Budokan? and 2005’s Live from Austin, TX. The song has been included in all of his greatest hits collections, including 1998’s The Best of John Hiatt (as a new, rerecorded version) and Greatest Hits — The A&M Years ’87-’94, 2001’s Anthology, 2003’s 20th Century Masters, and the 2005 box set Chronicles.(Wikipedia)

 The song was the first song written by Hiatt following his sobriety from drugs and alcohol, which had already contributed to his marriage breakdown and his being released by former record labels. Hiatt's original attempt at recording the song took place at a friend's studio and included a larger instrument accompaniment. However, the recording was plagued by technical issues. The morning after, Hiatt was informed that his estranged wife had committed suicide. Hiatt attributes the technical problems with the original recording as a sign that the song was not meant to be heard that way, and he eventually released the song with a much simpler piano accompaniment(Wikipedia)

 Bring the Family is John Hiatt's eighth album. It was his first album to chart on the Billboard 200, and featured his first single entry on the mainstream rock chart with "Thank You Girl". It features Ry Cooder on guitar, Nick Lowe on bass guitar and Jim Keltner on drums. The four would later reform as Little Village and release an album in 1992. "Thing Called Love" later became a hit for Bonnie Raitt, and "Have A Little Faith In Me" is among Hiatt's most popular songs, although it wasn't released as a single in America.

  Tupelo Honey is the fifth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It was released in October 1971 by Warner Bros. Records. Morrison had written all of the songs on the album in Woodstock, New York, before his move to Marin County, California, except for "You're My Woman", which he wrote during the recording sessions. Recording began at the beginning of the second quarter of 1971 at the Wally Heider Studios, San Francisco. Morrison moved to the Columbia Studios in May 1971 to complete the album.
