"Willin'" is a song written by American
musician Lowell George, and first recorded and released by Johnny
Darrell on his 1970 album California Stop-Over.. It was subsequently released by George's group Little Feat on their January 1971 debut album
In 1977, Little Feat recorded their concerts at the Rainbow Theatre in London, UK and the Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC that resulted in one of the greatest live albums of all time, ‘Waiting for Columbus.’ Forty-five years later, Little Feat and some VERY special guests such as Eric Church, Charlie Starr, Marcus King, Amy Helm, Tommy Emmanuel, John “JoJo” Hermann, Jamey Johnson, Betty LaVette, Jeff Hanna, and many others joined together for a momentous celebration.
Het was een mooie zonnige tweede pinksterdag in 1976.Het pinkpopfestival had die dag een behoorlijke gevarieerde programmering en was dan ook al snel uitverkocht(40000 man)Een kleine nederlandse inbreng deze keer Sido Martens(wie kent hem nog),maar voor de rest allemaal internationale artiesten.The Jess Roden Band,The Streetwalkers(met die gekke zanger Roger Chapman)The Outlaws (Country rock)The Chieftains(waren toen al heren van middelbare leeftijd)Little Feat(hun doorbraak moest nog komen)en de headliner was Uriah Heep.Bij Little Feat waren er schijnbaar veel problemen met het geluid en de kritieken op hun optreden waren dan ook niet mals,het Limburgs Dagblad schreef,,een zeer teleurstellend concert,een weinig overtuigend optreden en de twee kaktussen op het podium konden daar niets meer aan redden.Als ik onderstaande beelden zie denk ik daar toch heel anders over.Op en voor de mannen wel een heel vreemd podium,ik zie een zeer geinspireerde band aan het werk, een combinatie van Jazz,Funk en Rock.Maar ik ben waarschijnlijk bevooroordeeld ,wat ik ben nu een maal een fan van deze band,oordeel zelf maar.....

This was augmented by two additional members (guitarist Paul Barrere and percussionist Sam Clayton) added to make the more complete and familiar lineup that continued until their 1979 breakup following the death of Lowell George. Bassist Kenny Gradney was brought in to replace original bassist Roy Estrada, who had left after the band's second album Sailin' Shoes to join Captain Beefheart's Magic Band. This new lineup radically altered the band's sound, leaning toward New Orleans R&B/funk.

Little Feat is een Amerikaanse band opgericht door songwriter, zanger en gitarist Lowell George en keyboard speler Bill Payne in 1969 in Los Angeles. De band stopte ermee kort na George's dood in 1979, en werd 9 jaar later weer opgericht. De band speel nog steeds een mix van blues, R&B, country, New Orleans funk, en rock and roll.
George leerde Payne kennen toen George speelde in Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Payne deed een auditie voor de Mothers, maar werd niet aangenomen. ze vormden een band samen met voormalig mother,s bassist Roy Estrada en drummerRichie Hayward van George's vroegere band, The Factory. Er zijn verschillende verhalen over het ontstaan vanLittle Feat. Een ervan is dat George zijn song "Willin'", aan Zappa liet horen deze hem gelijk ontsloeg.Hij vond Lowell George zo talentvol dat hij hem aanrade een eigen band te beginnen Het tweede verhaal is dat Zappa hem ontsloeg na een gitaarsolo van 15 minuten met de versterker uit. De derde versie zegt dat Zappa hem uit de band schopte omdat ,,Willin,, zou gaan over drugs ("weed, whites and wine").
