The Allman Brothers at The Orpheum Theatre 12-3-2011 (repost)

The Orpheum Theater is a musical theater located at 1 Hamilton Place in Boston, Massachusetts. One of the oldest theaters in the United States, built in 1852 and initially known as the Boston Music Hall, home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The name was changed to the Orpheum Theater in 1906 and has been used for live music concerts ever since.

Guitarist and singer Gregg Allman of The Allman Brothers Band was recently told that two veterans are calling it quits this year. Both guitarist Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes have confirmed that they will be leaving the legendary band this year to focus on their own bands. They stay with the band until the 45th anniversary and then pack up.

 Walked On Guilded Splinters

Gov't Mule leader Haynes was part of The Allman Brothers Band for no less than 25 years and Derek Trucks, who, together with his wife Susan Tedeschi, forms the heart of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, has been playing for 15 years. In a joint statement the gentlemen say: 'We will be forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience, and for the love, enthusiasm, and support of the incredible fans. We are both preparing to dig even deeper into our various creative and musical endeavors; and, as a result, 2014 will be our final year as part of the band.' Too bad, I would have liked to see the band in action "live" again with this line-up, but that won't be possible anymore. So we'll just make do with the amount of film material that is in circulation of the band.

"Into the Mystic" one of my favorite Van Morrison songs. Covered by various artists, one more beautiful than the other. Warren Haynes also thinks it is a beautiful song, I think. I have already seen several performances by him, both solo and with Gov,t Mule, as with The Dead and with The Allman Brothers. This one is also very nice.

"All Along the Watchtower" written by Bob Dylan, released on his eighth studio album John Wesley Harding in 1967. It is Hendrix's version that made the song famous. Electric Ladyland was his best-selling album, and the Watchtower was the only single to reach 20th on the US charts during his lifetime.

"Working Class Hero" is a song by John Lennon. He used the song for his 1970 album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.

Revival

The first Allman Brothers song to hit the charts, it reached #92 in America. It was also the band's first song not written by Gregg Allman. Guitarist Dickey Betts wrote it.

The Allman Brothers Band "Ohne Filter" -5 Juli 1991

Kind Of Bird

Ramblin Man

Howard Duane Allman (November 20, 1946 – October 29, 1971)

Raymond Berry Oakley III (April 4, 1948 – November 11, 1972

The Dickey Betts Band - Ramblin Man (Rockpalast 2008)

"Ramblin' Man" is a song by American rock band The Allman Brothers Band, released in September 1973 as the lead single from the group's fourth studio album, Brothers and Sisters (1973). Written by guitarist Dickey Betts, the song was inspired by a 1951 song of the same name by Hank Williams. It is considerably more inspired by country music than other Allman Brothers Band compositions, which made the group reluctant to record it. Guitarist Les Dudek provides guitar harmonies, and it was one of bassist Berry Oakley's last contributions to the band.

 Dickey Betts - guitar/vocals, Duane Betts - guitar, Frank Lombardi - drums/vocals,Michael Kach - organ/vocals,Pedro Aravelo - bass,James Vanardo - drums,Andy Aledort - guitar

"Ramblin' Man" was first created during songwriting sessions for Eat a Peach. An embryonic version, referring to a "ramblin' country man," can be heard on the bootleg The Gatlinburg Tapes, featuring the band jamming on an off-day in April 1971 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.[1] Betts continued to work on the song for a year, but the lyrics came together in as little as twenty minutes. "I wrote "Ramblin' Man" in Berry Oakley's kitchen [at the Big House] at about four in the morning. Everyone had gone to bed but I was sitting up," said Betts in 2014.[2] Trucks noted that the band acknowledged it was a good song but were reluctant to record it, as it sounded too country for them.[3] New member and keyboardist Chuck Leavell enjoyed the song, noting, "It's definitely in the direction of country but that didn’t bother me in the least […] I think our attitude was, 'Let's take this thing and make it as great as we can.'"[2] The song was inspired by a 1951 song of the same name by Hank Williams.[4]

The Allman Brothers - Need Your Love So Bad

Duane Allman                     Dickey Betts                      Dan Toler

"Need Your Love So Bad" sometimes known as "I Need Your Love So Bad", is a blues song first published in 1955 and written by Mertis John Jr.

The first recording of the song was by Mertis John's younger brother Little Willie John and was released by King Records.Willie John's single achieved No. 5 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1956and the B-side "Home at Last" reached No. 6 in the same chart.[4] While using the AABA form and a harmonic layout typical for the R&B ballad,"Need Your Love So Bad" has been described as "A tightly wound and intense plea for love, [...] quite different from the usual R&B ballad fare".The songwriting credit has often been incorrectly attributed to Little Willie John.An example of this is the 1969 Fleetwood Mac album The Pious Bird of Good Omen, on which the original label gave the credit to Little Willie John. The performing rights organisation BMI credits the song to both John brothers.
Little Willie John's version of the song was used in the soundtrack to the film Wonder Boys in 2000. The song has also appeared on various compilation albums, such as The Very Best of Little Willie John, released in 2001 by Collectables Records as a CD.

The Allman Brothers - Woodstock 1994

                                 Dicky Betts & Warren Haynes
