David Olney & Sergio Webb - ( Qbus Leiden 2 Juny 2010) David R.I.P.

                                          David Olney R.I.P. (March 23,1948 -Jan 18.2020)

Had the pleasure to see David Olney perform several times during his visits to the Netherlands, including in Theater De Wegwijzer. Beautiful songs and,  a very sympathetic personality. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly during a performance in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, on January 18, 2020, at the age of seventy-one. He was in the middle of his third song when he stopped, apologized and shut his eyes, according to fellow musician Scott Miller, who was accompanying Olney

Mr Vermeer (taped by Ane)

One of the most beautiful songs from the David Olney album "Dutchman Curve" He wrote at Joanna Serraris' kitchen table after seeing Girl With A Pearl Earring in the Mauritshuis. With an image of this Vermeer painting in front of him, this song came to life…

Covington Girl (taped by Ane) album "Dutchman Curve"

If My Eyes Were Blind (taped by Ane) album "Illigal Cargo"

A real David Olney classic, Ad vanderVeen has covered the song in a beautiful way.

      She Took Of My Romeos

The inspiration behind She Took off My Romeos came from David Lindley’s personal experiences with heartbreak and the end of a once beautiful relationship. The song serves as a cathartic expression of his emotions and a way to connect with others who have gone through similar experiences.

El Rayo-X is David Lindley's debut studio album, released in 1981. The album spent 18 weeks on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 83 on July 16, 1981.

                                 David Perry Lindley (March 21, 1944 - March 3, 2023)

Lindley died after a long illness on March 3, 2023, at the age of 78. He had COVID-19 in 2020, which his family said developed into Long COVID, with chronic kidney damage.

The Boz Scaggs Band - I,ll Be Long Gone

The Boz Scaggs band performs a gospel-tinged classic during one of the final five nights of shows leading up the closing of San Francisco's Fillmore West on July 4, 1971

   I,ll Be Long Gone

Boz Scaggs is the second studio album by American musician Boz Scaggs, released in 1969 by Atlantic Records. A stylistically diverse album, Boz Scaggs incorporates several genres, including Americana, blue-eyed soul, country, and rhythm and blues. The lyrics are about typical themes found in blues songs, such as love, regret, guilt, and loss. Scaggs recorded the album at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio with producer Jann Wenner, the co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine. The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section heavily contributed to the album, which included a young Duane Allman, before his rise to fame with the Allman Brothers Band

Boz Scaggs was mostly ignored by listeners and critics upon release, and only sold around 20,000 copies within its first few years. The critics that did review the album enjoyed it, and commended the musicianship between Scaggs and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Boz Scaggs continues to receive praise in retrospective reviews, with some critics calling it an underrated album from the 1960s. In 2012, Boz Scaggs was ranked at number 496 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Walter "Brownie" McGhee - (Don,t)Move to Kansas City

Walter "Brownie" McGhee (November 30, 1915, Knoxville, Tennessee - February 16, 1996, Oakland, California) was an American folk and blues singer and guitarist. He became known for his collaboration with harmonica player Sonny Terry.

McGhee was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and was struck by polio as a child. As a result, he had problems walking. Even as a child he devoted a lot of time to music, singing in the Golden Voices Gospel Quartet. He also taught himself to play the guitar. When he was 22, he started traveling as a musician and met Blind Boy Fuller, whose guitar playing had a great influence on him (so much so that McGhee took over Fuller's name after Fuller's death in 1941, and as Blind Boy Fuller II by the life went). During that time, McGhee made several recordings, but greater success did not come until he went to New York in 1942, where he worked with Sonny Terry. Together they experienced great successes that would continue until the early 1970s. When interest in folk music revived in the 1960s, Terry and McGhee were featured guests at concerts and festivals.

One of McGhee's last concert appearances was at the 1995 Chicago Blues Festival.

He died of stomach cancer on February 16, 1996, in Oakland, California, at the age of 80

According to the very informative website..http://ivan.vanomatic.de/...Van only played that song live once

Boy and his dog
Went out looking for the rainbow
You know what did they learn
Since that very day

Walking by the river
And running like a blue streak
Through the fields of streams and meadows
Laughing all the way

Oh redwood tree
Please let us under
When we were young we used to go
Under the redwood tree

And it smells like rain
Maybe even thunder
Won't you keep us from all harm
Wonderful redwood tree

And a boy and his father
Went out, went out looking for the lost dog
You know what oh haven't they learned
Since they did that together
They did not bring him back
He already had departed
But look at everything they have learned
Since that, since that very day

Oh redwood tree
Please let us under
When we were young we used to go
Under the redwood tree

And it smells like rain
Maybe even thunder
Won't you keep us from all harm
Wonderful redwood tree

Ta da da da...

Do You Remember......The Everly Brothers

Manassas

Happy Birthday Stephen Stills (Dallas (Texas), 3 januari 1945)
Stephen Stills, vocals & guitar (ex-CSNY, Buffalo Springfield)
Chris Hillman, vocals & guitar (ex-Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers)
Al Perkins, steel guitar & guitar (played with Gram Parsons, among others)
Paul Harris, keyboards
Dallas
Taylor, drums (played with CSNY, ex-Clear Light)
Joe Lala, percussion (ex-Blues Image)

 Hide is So Deep

The band actually formed during the recording sessions for Stephen Still's third solo album. Playing together went so well that they decided to perform as a group. When the album was finished, the group still had no name. During a small tour they stopped at a station in Manassas, a group photo was taken under the place name and the group. Manassas was born. The photo was used for the cover of their first album.

During the band's three-hour live performance, they opened with a rock set, then Stephen Stills with an acoustic set, then Hillman and Perkins with bluegrass, then a rock and country set with the entire band, and the closing was an acoustic set. I have a recording from the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) myself, very beautiful.

It doesnt Matter

Manassas' toured all over the world, also visited the Netherlands several times (unfortunately missed) and in Paris Stephen Stills met the French singer/songwriter Veronique Sanson. A year later they married and their son Chris was born (later also a talented singer/songwriter). Stills and Joe Lala (and later Manassas member Kenny Passarelli) played on Veronique's album Le Maudit.

In addition to the extensive touring, time was also made available to record a second album. Partly due to the influence of drink and drugs, it was not as beautiful an album as their beautiful first. Much of the recorded material was not used (including a recording with Stevie Wonder on lead vocals). The recording for the first album was done by producers Ron Albert and Howard Albert, but they stopped recording the second album due to poor band performance halfway through. The album was completed in Colorado and Los Angeles. Down the Road was Ultimately not a bad album, but it did not reach the level of their first.

Another added bonus was the ever-present shadow of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. Atlantic Records considered Manassas more of a side project of StephenStills and did not do much to promote the two albums. In 1973, CSN&Y reunited to record a new album. Afterwards, Stephen returned to Colorado to continue. with Manassas, but it was no longer possible to get the band together in the old line-up. Dallas Taylor was addicted to heroin, Fuzzy Samuels was no longer interested. The band did two more small tours with bassist Kenny Passarelli, but it was the swan song of the band. Hillman became part of the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band and Stills went on the solo tour with Donnie Dacus of Veronique Sanson's band, veteran Russ Kunkel, and keyboardist Jerry Aiello.

Beautiful registration of Manassas' performance in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. The band, with Stephen Stills in top form, plays a mix of Country, Rock and Bluesgrass, both electric and acoustic. There is not much "live" material from Manassas, so that's why is this almost three-hour set, collected on two CDs

BOOKER T & The MG's ... "Bibelot - London (England)  Green Onions - Booker Loo.

Booker T Jones : organ Steve Cropper : guitar Donald "Duck" Dunn : bass Al Jackson : drums
