BB King & Bobby "Blue"Bland - live at SoulTrain (1975)

Soul Train was a fantastic show, although the majority of the acts lipsynced to their records. There were exceptions (James Brown for one)
and these two legendary performers were just that. Each is playing live with a backing band.

It's My Own Fault (with Bobby Blue Bland)

Robert Calvin "Bobby" Bland (January 27, 1930 – June 23, 2013), né Brooks, also known professionally as Bobby "Blue" Bland, was an American blues singer.
Bland developed a sound that mixed gospel with the blues and R&B. He was described as "among the great storytellers of blues and soul music... [who] created tempestuous arias of love, betrayal and resignation, set against roiling, dramatic orchestrations, and left the listener drained but awed."He was sometimes referred to as the "Lion of the Blues" and as the "Sinatra of the Blues"; his music was also influenced by Nat King Cole.[4]
Bland was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1981, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame described him as "second in stature only to B.B. King as a product of Memphis's Beale Street blues scene". (Wikipedia)

The sky is cryin, look at the tears roll down the street.
The sky is cryin, look at the tears roll down the street.
I'm wadin in tears lookin for my baby,
And I wonder, where can she be?

I saw my baby one mornin, and she was walkin on down the street.
I saw my baby one mornin, and she was walkin on down the street.
Made me feel so good,
Until my poor heart would skip a beat.

I got a bad feelin, my baby, my baby don't love me no more.
I got a bad feelin, my baby don't love me no more.
Now, the sky's been cryin,
The tears rollin down my nose.

David Olney (feat.Sergio Webb) - Soldier Of Misfortune

Recorded at the De Oude Veiling Aalsmeer

during the Hollyday in Holland Tour, December7and 8 2013

                                                  Soldier Of Misfortune

Had the pleasure to see David Olney perform several times during his visits to the Netherlands, including in Theater De Wegwijzer. Beautiful songs and,  a very sympathetic personality. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly during a performance in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, on January 18, 2020, at the age of seventy-one. He was in the middle of his third song when he stopped, apologized and shut his eyes, according to fellow musician Scott Miller, who was accompanying Olney.

                                      David Charles Olney (March 23, 1948 – January 18, 2020)
His music is well represented in my collection,so his music lives on here

Otis Rush -"I Can't Quit You Baby"

Otis Rush Jr. (April 29, 1934 – September 29, 2018) was an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter. His distinctive guitar style featured a slow-burning sound and long bent notes. With qualities similar to the styles of other 1950s artists Magic Sam and Buddy Guy, his sound became known as West Side Chicago blues and was an influence on many musicians, including Michael Bloomfield, Peter Green and Eric Clapton.

"I Can't Quit You Baby" is blues song written by Willie Dixon and first recorded by Chicago blues artist Otis Rush in 1956.[1] It is a slow twelve-bar blues ensemble piece, with lyrics about the consequences of an adulterous relationship which is difficult to end.

"I Can't Quit You Baby" was Rush's first recording and Cobra Records's debut single. It became a record chart hit as well as a blues standard. Rush updated the song in 1966 with a modified arrangement, which was adapted by Led Zeppelin for their 1969 debut album

 I can't quit you, baby
But I've got to put you down for awhile
You know I can't quit you, baby
But I've got to put you down for awhile
Well, you messed up my happy home, babe
Made me mistreat my only child

Bob Dylan at at Frank Sinatra's 80th Birthday Party - “Restless Farewell.”

In 1995, Dylan played at Frank Sinatra’s 80th birthday charity benefit concert, delivering a beautifully arranged version of a very old song of his containing so many lines that would have deep resonance for both Sinatra and Bob at that point (and this one): “Restless Farewell.”

"Restless Farewell" is a song by Bob Dylan, released as the final track on his third studio album The Times They Are a-Changin' in 1964. The melody is based on the Scottish folk song "The Parting Glass".

Van Morrison-"It's All in the Game"

"It's All in the Game" is a pop song whose most successful version was recorded by Tommy Edwards in 1958. Carl Sigman composed the lyrics in 1951 to a wordless 1911 composition titled "Melody in A Major", written by Charles G. Dawes, who was later Vice President of the United States under Calvin Coolidge. It is the only No. 1 single in the U.S. to have been co-written by a U.S. Vice President[1] or a Nobel Peace Prize laureate (Dawes was both).

The song has become a pop standard, with cover versions by dozens of artists, some of which have been minor hit singles.

Van Morrison included his version in a medley with "You Know What They're Writing About" on his 1979 album Into the Music; he also used the song as the B-side of his 1982 single "Cleaning Windows". His cover of the song was voted number 813 on Dave Marsh's list of 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made.[ Morrison also released it on the live albums Live at the Grand Opera House Belfast (1984), A Night in San Francisco (1994) and Live at Austin City Limits Festival (2006).

"After the Gold Rush" is a song written and performed by Neil Young and is the title song from his 1970 album of the same name.In addition to After the Gold Rush, it also appears on the compilation albums Decade, and Greatest Hits, and on Live Rust.

After The Gold Rush is an environmental song... I recognize in it now this thread that goes through a lotta my songs that’s this time-travel thing... When I look out the window, the first thing that comes to my mind is the way this place looked a hundred years ago (Neil Young)

Willie Mae Thornton (December 11, 1926 – July 25, 1984), better known as Big Mama Thornton, was an American rhythm-and-blues singer and songwriter. She was the first to record Leiber and Stoller's "Hound Dog", in 1952,[2] which became her biggest hit, staying seven weeks at number one on the Billboard R&B chart in 1953[3] and selling almost two million copies.[4] Thornton's other recordings included the original version of "Ball and Chain", which she wrote(Wikipedia)

Her recording of Hound Dog, written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller in 1952, and later recorded by Elvis Presley, reached Number 1 on the Rhythm & Blues Records chart. According to Maureen Mahon, a music professor at New York University, "the song is seen as an important beginning of rock-and-roll, especially in its use of the guitar as the key instrument"

The Who - Tommy Live!! Houston 20th Nov.1975

(...you won't shout as I fiddle about...)

(...Even on my favourite table, he can beat my best...)

(...We're not gonna take it...). In de steek gelaten door zijn volgelingen en aanbidders, krijgt Tommy een nieuwe verlichting. (...See Me, Feel Me, Touch Me, Heal Me...)
