On October 16, 1992, an impressive and eclectic group of artists gathered at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the purpose of celebrating the music of Bob Dylan on the occasion of his 30th anniversary of recording. Bringing together musical greats as far-flung as Johnny Cash and Eddie Vedder, The Clancy Brothers and Lou Reed, the four-hour show celebrated a truly remarkable lifetime of songs in front of a sold-out audience of over 18,000. Warmly dubbed the Bobfest by participant Neil Young, the show was broadcast around the world and featured a cast of musical notables performing carefully chosen and often surprising selections from the incomparable Dylan songbook. At evening's end, the man of honor himself appeared on stage and gracefully brought it all back home again. In a world where all-star celebrity gatherings have become commonplace, the Bob Dylan celebration stood out as, first and foremost, a legitimately memorable musical event.

  "Mystic Eyes" is a song written by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison when he was leader of the band Them. It was the opening tune for the band's first album, The Angry Young Them that was released in June 1965. It was released as a single in the US in October 1965 and in the UK on 12 November 1965. It charted at No. 33 in the US but did not chart in the UK.

                    Mystic Eyes / Gloria

 "Gloria" is a rock song written by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, and originally recorded by Morrison's band Them in 1964. It was released as the B-side of "Baby, Please Don't Go". The song became a garage rock staple and a part of many rock bands' repertoires. It is particularly memorable for its "Gloria!" chorus. It is easy to play, as a simple three-chord song, and thus is popular with those learning to play guitar.

 "All Along the Watchtower" is a song written and recorded by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. The song initially appeared on his 1967 album, John Wesley Harding, and it has been included on most of Dylan's subsequent greatest hits compilations. Since the late 1970s, he has performed it in concert more than any of his other songs. Different versions appear on four of Dylan's live albums

Breathe, soms aangeduid als Breathe in the air, is het tweede nummer van het studioalbum The Dark Side of the Moon van Pink Floyd. Op sommige versies van het album is het samengevoegd met Speak to Me. Het nummer is geschreven door David Gilmour en Richard Wright met tekst van Roger Waters. Het lied gaat over het toespreken van een pasgeborene door een oude man. Het is geschreven in een loom tempo met veel glissandi op een lap steel guitar (Gilmour). De zetting heeft veel weg van het nummer Time dat ook op het album staat en dat aan het eind een herhaling van ongeveer een minuut van Breathe bevat.

Tijdens Live8 werden Breathe en het gedeelte uit Time achter elkaar gespeeld, iets dat de band tot dan toe nooit gedaan had. Breathe staat op sommige live- en verzamelalbums van de band of van sololeden. Op zich is dat niet zo eenvoudig aangezien het nummer bij de originele elpee zonder pauze over gaat in On the Run.                         Money  is het zesde nummer van hun album The Dark Side of the Moon uit 1973. Het nummer, geschreven door Roger Waters, opent de tweede kant van de originele lp en is het enige nummer van het album dat de top 20 behaalde van de Amerikaanse Billboard Hot 100. Het staat bekend om zijn onconventionele 7/4-maat, herkenbare baslijn en de tape loop van geldgerelateerde geluiden die het nummer opent, bijvoorbeeld rinkelende munten en een kasregister. Het thema van het nummer is kapitalisme en hoe geld ons dagelijks leven beheerst

                         "Wish You Were Here" is de title track  van het album Wish You Were Here (1975).
                       David Gilmour en Roger Waters schreven de muziek , en Gilmour zong de leadvocals. 

 In 2011 stond het nummer op nummer 324 op Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.            

 

Comfortably Numb  Het nummer is het 19e nummer (van de 26) van het album The Wall en is met 6 minuten en 49 seconden het langste nummer op het album. In 1995 werd een extra lange liveversie van ruim 9 minuten op het album Pulse gezet, waarbij tijdens de gitaarsolo de lichtreflecterende diamant onthuld werd.

 Derek and the Dominos werd in 1970 opgericht door  Eric Clapton met keyboardist Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle en drummer Jim Gordon,  Ook Duane Allman deed mee op dit album maar was geen vast lid van de band.

John Lee Hooker (Clarksdale (Mississippi), 22 augustus 1917 - Los Altos (Californië), 21 juni 2001) was een invloedrijke Amerikaanse blueszanger, gitarist en songwriter die tijdens zijn leven verschillende soorten stijlen hanteerde. Hij geldt als een belangrijke vernieuwer van de blues. Bekende nummers van Hooker zijn onder andere Boom Boom en I'm in the Mood. Hij werd geboren in Clarksdale, Mississippi in een muzikale familie, en als neef van Earl Hooker.

Ook al stotterde hij bij gewone conversaties, wanneer hij zong, viel dat niet op door z'n half-gesproken zangstijl die zijn handelsmerk werd. Zijn muziek was ritmisch vrij, een eigenschap die teruggevonden wordt bij veel van de akoestische Delta Blues muziek.

Aangetrokken door fabriekswerk verhuisde Hooker naar Detroit in 1943, waar hij zou blijven tot in 1969. Hij voelde zich perfect thuis in de nabijheid van de blues-saloons in Hastings Straat, dé plaats in Detroits oostkant voor entertainment voor zwarte burgers.

Hooker begon zijn carrière in 1948 met de hit single "Boogie Chillen", opgenomen in een studio nabij de Wayne State Universiteit. Hij voerde vooral solo liedjes uit; hij werd populair bij de blues-aficionados, folkfans uit de vroege jaren '60, en bekoorde ook het witte publiek. Ook bood hij de jonge folk hero Bob Dylan indertijd een aantal kansen.


IT SERVE ME RIGHT TO SUFFER
In 1989 begon hij een groepssessie met een aantal muzikanten, onder wieKeith Richards en Carlos Santana, om The Healer op te nemen - dat een Grammy won — een van de vele prijzen. Daarnaast werkte hij samen met onder anderen Miles Davis, Bonnie Raitt en Los Lobos. Hooker heeft ook verscheidene liedjes opgenomen met Van Morrison, zoals Never get out of these blues alive, The healing game en I cover the waterfront. Ook trad hij verscheidene keren op met Van Morrison, waarvan sommige nummers op het live-album A night in San Francisco te vinden zijn.

Hoewel John Lee Hooker een belangrijk deel van zijn carrière woonde en werkte in Detroit, wordt hij niet meteen geassocieerd met de Chicago-stijl die lang de muziekscene in de grote noordelijke steden van de VS domineerde. Hooker staat vooral bekend als pregnant vertolker van een aantal zuidelijke bluesstijlen, beter bekend onder de verzamelnaam Delta-blues, met veel invloeden van country, folk en de zogeheten "front porch blues". Hookers gebruik van de elektrische gitaar - vaak een Gretsch, soms een Gibson - verbond op nog niet eerder vertoonde wijze de Delta Blues met de sterk opkomende naoorlogse niet louter meer akoestisch geïnspireerde blues.

John Lee Hooker heeft gedurende zijn leven meer dan 100 albums opgenomen. De laatste jaren van zijn leven vertoefde hij rond de baai van San Francisco, in Californië, waar hij een nachtclub toestemming had gegeven om de naam Boom Boom Room te gebruiken, naar één van z'n hits



Hooker werd ziek vlak voor hij aan een tour door Europa wilde beginnen, in 2001. Hij stierf niet lang daarna op 84-jarige leeftijd.
Hooker liet acht kinderen, negentien kleinkinderen, een ontelbaar aantal achterkleinkinderen en een neef na.

Hookers songs zijn in een halve eeuw tijd honderden keren gecovered door bands en individuele musici, o.a The White Stripes, MC5, The Doors, George Thorogood, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Van Morrison, The Yardbirds, The Animals, R. L. Burnside en deJ. Geils Band tot en met The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton en The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Time (The Revelator) is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Gillian Welch. All songs were written by Welch together with David Rawlings and were recorded at RCA Studio B, Nashville, Tennessee, with the exception of "I Want to Sing That Rock and Roll", which was recorded live at the Ryman Auditorium as part of the sessions for the concert film, Down from the Mountain.

Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 – January 10, 1976), known as Howlin' Wolf, was a Chicago blues singer, guitarist, and harmonica player, originally from Mississippi. With a booming voice and imposing physical presence, he is one of the best-known Chicago blues artists. The musician and critic Cub Koda noted, "no one could match Howlin' Wolf for the singular ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits."^[1] Producer Sam Phillips recalled, "When I heard Howlin' Wolf, I said, 'This is for me. This is where the soul of man never dies.'"^[2] Several of his songs, including "Smokestack Lightnin'", "Killing Floor" and "Spoonful", have become blues and blues rock standards.
