Mooi optreden van The Jimi Hendrix Experience tijdens een voor mij onbekende Duites TV Show.
Een wat verbaasd publiek ,dit was toch wat anders dan een doorsnee "Beat" bandje.
Opvallend ook het geweldige drumwerk van Mitch Mitchell een volgens mij wat onderschatte drummer.                                                                                        
                                                                                                                 

Stone Free

With the first Experience song, "Hey Joe", completed on October 23, 1966, the group needed a second number for their debut single. Hendrix suggested another cover song, but producer Chas Chandler encouraged him to come up with an original in order to receive song publishing royalties. Hendrix wrote "Stone Free", his first Experience composition on October 24 after a jam at a London club. ("Look Over Yonder", recorded by the Experience in 1968, began in 1966 as "Mr. Bad Luck", written and performed by Hendrix with his band Jimmy James and the Blue Flames in Greenwich Village, New York).The group rehearsed the song, with Chandler (formerly a bassist with the Animals) showing Redding, a guitarist who was new to the bass, some bass lines. "Stone Free" was recorded at De Lane Lea Studios in London on November 2, 1966. According to Chandler, it was completed in an hour. Overdubbing was minimal, consisting of a cowbell part by Mitchell and an additional guitar line and harmony vocals by Hendrix.^(Wikipedia)

                                                     Purple Haze

The Experience began recording "Purple Haze" on January 11, 1967, at De Lane Lea Studios in London. According to drummer Mitch Mitchell, he and bassist Noel Redding learned the song in the studio: "Hendrix came in and kind of hummed us the riff and showed Noel the chords and the changes. I listened to it and we went, 'OK, let's do it.' We got it on the third take as I recall."^[13] The basic track was recorded in four hours, according to Chandler.^[14] Multitrack recording technology allowed engineers to record and complete additional parts on the final master. After the basic track was finished, Chandler explained that he and Hendrix developed the song:

 It is unclear who wrote this song. Many people believe it was written by Chester Powers (aka Dino Valenti of Quicksilver Messenger Service), but Hendrix himself - and also The Leaves - attribute it to William (Bobby) Roberts. No one has been able to copyright it, so the song is considered "traditional," meaning anyone can record it without paying royalties. (thanks, Gary - Thetford, England)The version that inspired Hendrix to record this came from a folk singer named Tim Rose, who played it in a slow arrangement on his 1967 debut album. Rose was a popular singer/songwriter for a short time in the Greenwich Village scene, but quickly faded into obscurity before a small comeback in the '90s. He died in 2002 at age 62.(SongFacts)

 "Stage Fright" is de titel track van the Band's derde album, Stage Fright. Ook hierop deed  Rick Danko de lead vocals .Het nummer is geschreven door  Robbie Robertson.

The song Linda Lu was written by Ray Sharpe and was first released by Ray Sharpe in 1959. It was covered by Rusti Steel & The Tin Tax, Oiling Boiling Rhythm'n Blues Band, The Kingsmen , Cliff Ellis Taj Maha and many,many other artists.

Scrolling through my old messages I came across this recording again. Lovely duo, and I had the pleasure of seeing them "live" in action (Antwerp) This  comes from a recording of the Bonnaroo festival in 2004.

Al Kooper & Shuggie Otis - Kooper Sessions

 The legendary keyboardist and bandleader Al Kooper featured Otis on a follow-up to his Super Session album with Michael Bloomfield and Stephen Stills entitled Kooper Session: Al Kooper Introduces Shuggie Otis. This record contained a number of highlights including "12:15 Slow Goonbash Blues" and "Shuggie's Shuffle," proving that Shuggie could improvise in a seemingly unending creative stream.  Born Johnny Otis, Jr. on November 30, 1953, in Los Angeles, CA, Otis' formidable musical talents appeared at an early age. He began his professional career around 1965. He played a guitar solo on his bandleader, father Johnny Otis' 1969 number 29 R&B hit, "Country Girl," issued by Kent Records. His guitar skills were so adept that during his teen years, he would have to wear dark glasses and strategically apply black ink between his nose and mouth to appear old enough to perform in clubs with his father.(All Music)

Joni Mitchell - Wembley Arena London 24-4-83

In 1983 deed Joni Mitchell een wereldtournee waar bij ze landen als Japan, Australia, Ierland, the United Kingdom, Belgie, Frankrijk en Duitsland en Scandinavie aandeed. Deze beelden zijn uit het optreden in The Wembley Arena in Londen.Alhoewel ze begeleid werd door een uitstekende band met o.a echtgenoot Larry Klein (bass)in de gelederen heb ik toch gekozen voor haar solo optreden met haar meest bekende werk.Het elektrische gedeelte komt een volgende keer aan de beurt.

                                             Big Yello Taxi
 Joni Mitchell vertelde in een  interview met de Los Angeles Times "I wrote 'Big Yellow Taxi' on my first trip to Hawai'i. I took a taxi to the hotel and when I woke up the next morning, I threw back the curtains and saw these beautiful green mountains in the distance. Then, I looked down and there was a parking lot as far as the eye could see, and it broke my heart... this blight on paradise. That's when I sat down and wrote the song."

Dit is in mijn ogen het mooiste nummer van het album komt  "Blue" met op de originele opname James Taylor op acoustic guitar, Russ Kunkel op drums, en Joni op de Appalachian dulcimer.

Nog een nummer van het album "Blue" Geschreven en geinspereerd door haar verblijf  in Matala op het Griekse eiland Kreta.

                                          Woodstock

 Joni schreef de song naar aanleiding van de verhalen die ze gehoord had van Graham Nash over het festival en de reportages had gezien op TV. in een  interview vertelde ze "The deprivation of not being able to go provided me with an intense angle on Woodstock," Het nummer staat op de albums , Ladies of the Canyon uit 1970, op haar Shadows and Light album,en in 1996 op haar Hits album.

Op 18 en 19 Juni  werd er ter gelegenheid  Joni Mitchell 70ste verjaardag een groot concert gegeven in de Massey Hall ,Toronto ,Canada .

Neil Young - Harvest Sessions (1971)

Harvest is the fourth album by the Canadian musician Neil Young, released on February 14, 1972 on Reprise Records, catalogue . It featured the London Symphony Orchestra on two tracks and vocals by noted guests David Crosby, Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Stills, and James Taylor. It topped the Billboard 200 album ^charts  for two weeks, and spawned two hit singles, "Old Man", which peaked at #31 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Heart of Gold", which reached #1.^[2] It was the best-selling album of 1972 in the United States.

 "A Man Needs a Maid" and "There's a World" were recorded by Jack Nitzsche with the London Symphony Orchestra in early March in the wake of Young's appearance on the BBC and concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

  In the last verse, Young describes watching a movie and falling in love with the actress. This is an autobiographical reference to Young's falling in love with actress Carrie Snodgress, who would become the mother of Young's first son.Young had first become smitten by Snodgress when he saw her acting the part of the role of the titular housewife in the move Diary of a Mad Housewife.

While waiting for a liver transplant, Snodgress was hospitalized in Los Angeles, where she died of heart failure on April 1, 2004, at age 58

Samantha Fish & Mike Zito - Live at bluesclub De Viersprong (31 okt 2014)

Dat de heren van de bluesclub in Cafe Viersprong een goede hand van programmeren is bekend,deze avond was daar weer een goed voorbeeld van. Op het programma de uit St. Louis, Missouri. afkomstige Mike Zito en en de in Kansas City geboren Samantha Fish.

                  I Put A Spell On You

 Het werden eigenlijk drie concerten in een.Allereerst Samantha met haar band met onder andere deze prachtuivoering van Screaming Jay Hawkins,s  I Put A Spell On You(in het kader van halloween)en een akoestische versie van Dead Flowers Verder bleek Samantha ook goed op de Cigar Box Guitar overweg kon.

                  Mike Zito
Na de pauze werd de band aangevuld met een geweldige saxofonist en bracht zijn Mike met zijn krachtige stem en prima gitaarspel de temperatuur  in De Viersprong op kookpunt.

Mike Zito speelde in  Royal Southern Brotherhood van 2010 tot 2014 samen met Cyril Neville, Devon Allman Charlie Wooten op bass en drummer Yonrico Scott

                  De avond werd afgesloten met met Samantha en Mike allebei op het podium ,
                  Mooi afsluiting van een prachtige muzikale avond !
