Carly Simon You,r so Vain
In January of 1973, You're So Vain was the # 1 hit song on the radio. Carly had just married fellow pop-superstar James Taylor a month before, so when You're So Vain hit the airwaves, it stirred intense curiosity about which one of her previous lovers was the subject of this wry nod to the male ego. click here to read the lyrics
Was it Mick Jagger? Cat Stevens? Warren Beatty? Kris Kristofferson? It was common knowledge that she had been involved with each of them in the past.
Carly has never revealed who she had in mind when she wrote You're So Vain, and over 35 years later, interviewers are still asking her this same question........

Carly Simon met dochter Sally Taylor No Secrets

In het boek"Girls like Us"vertelt Carly over haar huwelijk met James Taylor het volgende:
"I know he had a really tough time with drugs and I had a tough time with his drugs, and I had a tough time with Ben who was very, very sick," recalled Simon. "But I was terribly in love and I got a great deal out of that relationship and ... I don't think I would have changed anything except that I wish that James would have been happier with himself obviously. The breakup of that marriage was incredibly sad and difficult for me."

It,s a Beautiful Day - The Dolphin Song ( 7/7/1970 - Tanglewood - Lenox, MA)

It's a Beautiful Day is an American band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1967, featuring vocalist Pattie Santos along with violinist David LaFlamme and his wife, Linda LaFlamme, on keyboards.
David LaFlamme, who as a youth had formerly once performed as a soloist with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, had previously been in the group Orkustra playing five-string violin. The other members of It's a Beautiful Day in its early years were Hal Wagenet (guitar), Mitchell Holman (bass) and Val Fuentes (drums). Although they were one of the earliest and most important San Francisco bands to emerge from 1967's social phenomenon Summer of Love, the band never quite achieved the success of contemporaries such as Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Santana, with whom they had connections. The band created a unique blend of rock, jazz, folk, classical, and world-beat styles during the initial seven years it was officially together.(Wikipedia)

  The Dophin Song (Fred Neil)

July 5, 1970, the band played the second Atlanta International Pop Festival in Byron, Georgia to an estimated 250,000 people. Pattie Santos sang lead on "White Bird", "Hot Summer Day" and "The Dolphin Song". The band had a regional radio hit with "Don and Dewey". Later that year, the original lineup of the band changed; the LaFlammes had split and Linda left the band, replaced by Fred Webb. The following album, Marrying Maiden, recorded at Pacific High Recording Studio in San Francisco,[5] released in 1970, was their most successful in the charts. It reached number 28 in the U.S. (their only Top 40 placing)[2] and number 45 in the U.K.[3] In that year, the band also performed at the Holland Pop Festival at the Kralingse Bos in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music. Tom Fowler (later bassist for Frank Zappa) and Bill Gregory joined in March 1971, with their first performance broadcast live on San Francisco's KSAN FM radio, with host Tom Donahue introducing them as the band's two new members(Wikipedia)

Boz Scaggs - Lowdown (Live on SNL - 1976)

"Lowdown" is a song originally recorded in 1976 by Boz Scaggs for his album, Silk Degrees. The song was co-written by Scaggs and David Paich. Keyboardist David Paich, along with fellow "Lowdown" session musicians bassist David Hungate, and drummer Jeff Porcaro, would later help form the band Toto.

nitially, Silk Degrees received a lukewarm commercial response and, similarly, the first single released from the album, "It's Over" just barely cracked the top 40 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart, peaking at #38. One day, however, a Cleveland R&B radio DJ began playing "Lowdown" straight off the album. This was during a time period when DJs had much more say in what got played.[3] Public response was very positive and soon Scaggs' record label, Columbia, sent the song to other R&B-oriented radio stations for airplay. It began receiving airplay on Top 40 Pop stations as well, and when it was officially released as a single in June 1976, it went on to become Scaggs' first major hit, eventually peaking at number three on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. It was also successful on the R&B and Disco Singles charts, peaking at number five on both. The song was also a major hit in Canada, peaking at number two. It was a minor hit in the UK, reaching #28. Scaggs is quoted as saying that the success of "Lowdown" was 'an accident' and that, even though it was their favorite from Silk Degrees, he and the others involved in the making of the song thought there 'wasn't a chance in hell' that the song would have been released as a single.[3] The single was certified gold by the RIAA for sales of one million copies and would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best R&B song of 1976.(Wikipedia)

Neil Young - Crime In The City (Sixty To Zero, Part 1)"

Na een hoop gedoe met platenmaatschapij Geffen Records ,keerde Neil Young in 1988 terug naar het label Reprise. Prima keuze en een uitstekende come-back met het album Freedom.Prijsnummer natuurlijk "Rocking in a Free World" maar mijn favoriete nummer is toch "Crime in The City"

Allmusic recensent Matthew Greenwald schreef:"strong praise for the second track, "Crime in the City", calling it "undoubtedly the centerpiece of the album", "cinematic in scope", and "one of Neil
 Young's most accomplished works"
