                                         Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down is the 2011 fourteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ry Cooder. Following his 2008 album I, Flathead, Cooder pursued a more political direction with his songwriting, inspired by the late-2000s economic crisis and protest songs of the past. Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down was written and produced by Cooder, who recorded its songs at Drive-By Studios, Ocean Studios, and Wireland Studios in California. He played various instruments and worked with musicians such as Flaco Jiménez, Juliette Commagere, Robert Francis, and Jim Keltner.

Howlin Wolf - Sittin On The Top Of The World (1974)

Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 – January 10, 1976), known as Howlin' Wolf, was a Chicago blues singer, guitarist, and harmonica player, originally from Mississippi. With a booming voice and imposing physical presence, he is one of the best-known Chicago blues artists. The musician and critic Cub Koda noted, "no one could match Howlin' Wolf for the singular ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits."Producer Sam Phillips recalled, "When I heard Howlin' Wolf, I said, 'This is for me. This is where the soul of man never dies'".Several of his songs, including "Smokestack Lightnin'", "Killing Floor" and "Spoonful", have become blues and blues rock standards. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 51 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

"Sitting on Top of the World" (also "Sittin' on Top of the World") is a country blues song written by Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon. They were core members of the Mississippi Sheiks, who first recorded it in 1930. Vinson claimed to have composed the song one morning after playing at a white dance in Greenwood, Mississippi.[1] It became a popular crossover hit for the band, and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008.[2] "Sitting on Top of the World" has become a standard of traditional American music. The song has been widely recorded in a variety of different styles – folk, blues, country, bluegrass, rock – often with considerable variations and/or additions to the original verses. The lyrics of the original song convey a stoic optimism in the face of emotional setbacks, and the song has been described as a “simple, elegant distillation of the Blues”

Big Mama Thornton & The Buddy Guy Bluesband - Ball and Chain

"Ball 'n' Chain" or "Ball and Chain" is a blues song written and recorded by American blues artist Big Mama Thornton. Although her recording did not appear on the record charts, "Ball 'n' Chain" has become one of Thornton's best-known songs, largely due to performances and recordings by Janis Joplin.

 The ball and chain is an image associated with prisoners, as a weighted ball attached to a chain would be shackled to an inmate's leg to keep him from escaping. In this song, Thornton relates the image to her man, who is keeping her down.

 Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton (December 11, 1926 – July 25, 1984) was an American rhythm and blues singer and songwriter. She was the first to record Leiber and Stoller's "Hound Dog" in 1952, which became her biggest hit. It spent seven weeks at number one on the Billboard R&B charts in 1953^[2] and sold almost two million copies. However, her success was overshadowed three years later, when Elvis Presley recorded his more popular rendition of "Hound Dog" Similarly, Thornton's "Ball 'n' Chain" (written in 1961 but not released until 1968) had a bigger impact when performed and recorded by Janis Joplin in the late 1960s.

Van Morrison - Summertime in England (Rockpalast1982)

/ Common One is the twelfth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, released in 1980. The album was recorded over a nine-day period at Super Bear Studios, near Nice, on the French Riviera. Its title comes from the ³
₄ section of the song "Summertime in England", where Morrison sings the lyrics "Oh, my common one with the coat so old and the light in her head".

 "Summertime in England" was the longest track and proved to be a successful live performance for some time to come. Morrison said it "was actually a part of a poem I was writing and the poem and the song sort of merged." The lyrics include images of Wordsworth and Coleridge "smokin' up in Kendal" (Brian Hinton says they are "smokin' with poetry not spliffs").^[6] It ends with the music being brought down to nothing and the words, "Can you feel the silence?"

Monti Amudson (Bluesclub De Viersprong -19 Mei 2017)

     

Ook het afgelopen jaar weer mooie optredens in Bluesclub De Viersprong. Het podiumpje was bijna te klein voor "Big"Monti Amudson en zijn begeleiders, maar ook dit optreden was zeker ook een van de hoogtepunten van 2017!

Review Concertyear 2017 ,highlights - Kenny Wayne Sheppard Grolloo ,8 Juni 2017

     Het H.I.B.F in Grolloo was net als de vorige editie een  van de hoogtepunten van het muziekjaar 2017. De meningen over KWS waren verdeelt ,niet door mij.Prachtig optreden,niet alleen een hoogtepunt van dit festival,maar ook een van het concertjaar 2017!

Terugblik op concertjaar 2017.Hoogtepunten - Joe Bonamassa , Geb.T Bergen Op Zoom (21 Mei 2017)

    Een aangename verrassing op die zondagmiddag.In eerste instantie te laat voor tickets van dit evenement,maar omdat een vriendin op het laatste moment verhindert was kon ik toch nog aanwezig zijn(nog bedankt Yvonne)Een mooie avond ,ook met Jan Akkerman Danny Vera,Phil Bee ,e.a.
Hoogtepunt natuurlijk het optreden van Joe Bonamassa,een kleine drie kwarier maar Joe haalde alles uit de kast .In een woord geweldig

JOE BONAMASSA ONTVANGT SENA PERFORMERS EUROPEAN GUITAR AWARD 2017 De Amerikaanse superster Joe Bonamassa heeft zondagavond 21 mei de Sena Performers European Guitar Award 2017 ontvangen in poppodium Gebouw-T in Bergen op Zoom. De held uit Los Angeles reageerde geëmotioneerd toen hij uit handen van Jan Akkerman de award kreeg uitgereikt. ”Ik weet eerlijk gezegd niet wat ik moet zeggen. De warmte en de liefde voor mij en muziek die ik hier voel is overweldigend.”

Review of the concert year 2017, highlights - King Of The World (Ridderkerk 1 April 2017)

Ik zag deze band dit jaar drie keer optreden waaronder op dit mooie festival in Ridderkerk,langzamerhand een vaste waarde op de festivalagenda.In dit nummer een hoofdrol voor gitarist Erwin Java.de band bestaat verder uit Ruud Weber(bass/zang), Govert van der Kolm(keys), Fokke de Jong (Drums) De optredens van deze band behoren zeker tot de hoogtepunten van concertjaar 2017

    Can,t Go Home

Thad Beckman - t,Zwijnshoofd , Bergen Op Zoom (18 Dec. 2017)

 Ik had de naam Thad Beckman al dikwijls voorbij zien komen,een behoorlijke naam in de americana/roots kringen. Op deze wat sombere maandagavond stond hij geprogrammeerd in Cafe/Theaterzaal  t,Zwijnshoofd in kader van de crossroad-sessions

Het bleek dat hij al geruime tijd op het verlanglijstje stond van de organisatoren, het was dan ook mooi  dat ze hem op de laatste dag van zijn Nederlandse tour konden strikken

   
 Het optreden vond  plaats in het cafe gedeelte,een plaats waar de tijd is stil blijven staan.Het gaf het geheel een nostalgisch tintje,een bijzondere sfeer.                                                  

                                                      
 Het optreden was van de eerste tot de laatste minuut boeiend.Mooie songs,geweldig gitaarspel.Bovendien is Thad een man met een mooi verhaal.

Thad Beckman speelde in de jaren tachtig als gitarist bij legendarische artiesten als Bo Diddley, The Shirelles en Earl Thomas.  Ook in de Late Show van David Letterman was hij al te gast Solo heeft hij ondertussen al vijf albums op zijn  naam staan, allemaal zeer de moeite waard.
                                             

                                         
Op de setlist o.a ook het Bob Dylan  nummer "Bucket Of Rain "en Jimmy Reeds "Bright Lights Big City"
Een van de hoogtepunten van de avond was voor mij "A Soldier Returns Home" een instrumentaal nummer,maar zo veelzeggend dat een tekst niet nodig was,

Natuurlijk nog zijn laatste album gescoord(zeer de moeite waard) en na afloop een mooi gesprek ,o a andere over de veel te vroeg overleden Ad van Meurs ,ook een goede bekende van Thad Beckman

                                    Al met al een zeer mooie,boeiende en muzikale avond.
