Veel aandacht voor de ,,zwarte ,, muziek op de Nederlandse Radio en TV afgelopen week.Prachtige muziek maar opmerkelijk weinig aandacht voor Ray Charles.In de zwarte Top 100 komen we hem pas op de 35ste! plaats tegen en dat kan natuurlijk niet.Daarom op Arthur,s Musical Journey Ray Charles The Genius!


Ray Charles Robinson (Albany (Georgia), 23 september 1930 – Beverly Hills (Californië), 10 juni 2004) was een blinde Amerikaans zanger/pianist en een groot vertolker van de moderne blues en de rhythm-and-blues.

"Georgia on My Mind" geschreven in 1930 door Hoagy Carmichael (music) en Stuart Gorrell (lyrics).
Ray Charles, wonend in Georgia,nam het nummer op in 1960 voor het album The Genius Hits the Road. Het werd het officiele volkslied van Georgia in 1979. Geinspireerd door deze bluesversie introduceerde Willie Nelson de song voor een country publiek. Het werd in 1978 een No.1 hit in de Country en Western charts.


How Long Has This Been Going On
Prachtige song van Ira & George Gerswin.Van Morrison heeft ook een mooie versie op zijn repetoire.Zijn album met de gelijknamige titel ,opgenomen in Ronnie Scotts Club in London is het beluisteren zeker waard.

Geschreven door Don Gibson,die het voor het eerst opnam op 30 Dec.1957.
Ray Charles nam het nummer in 1962 op voor zijn zeer verrassende Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music album. De Ray Charles cover versie bereikte zowel de nummer 1 plaats in de Billboard Hot 100 in 1962, als in de U.S. R&B charts.Op de Rolling Stone lijst van de 500 Greatest Songs of All Time staat het nummer op 161 en no 49 op CMT's 100 Greatest Songs in Country Music.

         Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks perform  at the fourth Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival. This was from night two on April 13, 2013 at Madison Square Garden.

      "The Needle and the Damage Done" is a song by Neil Young that describes the destruction caused by the heroin addiction of musicians he knew. Though not specifically about him, the song was inspired by the heroin addiction of his friend and Crazy Horse bandmate Danny Whitten. It previews the theme of the Tonight's the Night album that reflects Young's grief over the heroin overdose and death of both Whitten and Bruce Berry, a roadie for Young and Crazy Horse.

      "Midnight Rider" is a song by the American rock band the Allman Brothers Band. It was the second single from their second studio album, Idlewild South (1970), released on Capricorn Records. The song was primarily written by vocalist Gregg Allman, who first began composing it at a rented cabin outside of Macon, Georgia. He enlisted the help of roadie Robert Kim Payne to complete the song's lyrics. He and Payne broke into Capricorn Sound Studios to complete a demo of the song.
While the original Allman Brothers release of the song did not chart, "Midnight Rider" was much more successful in cover versions. Gregg Allman's solo version of the song, released in 1973, was its biggest chart success; it was a top 20 hit in the U.S. and Canada. A cover by Jamaican singer, Paul Davidson, represented its biggest peak in the United Kingdom, where it hit number ten. Country artist Willie Nelson also recorded a version of the song that peaked at number six on U.S. country charts.

The Band-Up On Cripple Creek(Ed SullivanShow)

Vandaag is het de geboortedag van Mark Lavon (Levon) Helm (Marvell (Arkansas) , 26 mei 1940 – New York , 19 april 2012 )Een mooie aanleiding voor dit prachtige filmpje van "The Band" op mijn blog.

Up On Cripple Creek "Up on Cripple Creek" is het vijfde nummer van The Band's tweede album album, The Band. Het nummer kwam uit als single op Capitol 2635 in November 1969 en bereikte #25 op the Billboard Hot 100."Up on Cripple Creek" is geschreven door Robbie Robertson, met drummer Levon Helm op lead vocal.

De tickets voor dit evenement waren binnen 10 minuten uitverkocht dus ik had de hoop dit mee te maken al lang opgegeven.Toen kort voor aanvang een vriendin aangaf verhinderd te zijn en ik haar kaartje over kon nemen was ik daar natuurlijk erg blij mee.Het werd een prachtige ,zeer bijzondere avond.

Ik zag Joe Bonamassa al diverse malen ik aktie.De eerste keer zo,n 12 jaar geleden op het Bellamypark in Vlissingen,toen nog met zijn trio .Vanaf de eerste tonen was ik toen gelijk verkocht,wat een gitarist! Daarna ging het snel,binnen vrij korte tijd groeide hij uit tot een van de grootste en veelzijdigste gitaristen van deze generatie.Daarna was Joe alleen op de grote podia en festivals te zien.Deze avond werd een groot eerbetoon aan Joe Bonamassa ,allereerst op een groot scherm een overzicht van zijn carriere ,en warme woorden van o.a Walter Trout,Steve Vai ,en George Kooymans. Daarna de prijsuitreiking ,een dankwoord van Joe,en toen ging de meester "los".Meer dan een halfuur werd alles uit de kast gehaald ,begeleid door een geweldige huisband.Absolute top!

De avond werd verder opgevuld door Danny Vera,Eric Vaarzon Morel(in een muisstille zaal)een prachtige set van Jan Akkerman ,Anneke van GiersbergenWilly & The Bandits en Navarone.Die laatste was ook nog een aangename verrassing,de band speelde een prachtige set met Fleetwwod Mac en Led Zeppelin nummers.Een band om in de gaten te houden.
Samengevat,een geweldige en bijzonder avond die ik niet had willen missen.

Bob Dylan - Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, Tennessee 8/9 November 1994

1994 was een mooi jaar in "The Never Ending" tour.Hoogtepunten dat jaar, het prachtige optreden tijdens "The Great Music Experience"nabij de Todiji Tempel in Japan.Woodstock 94,Unplugged voor MTV ,en zeker ook dit optreden in het mooie Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Mooie setlist,Bob uitstekend bij stem,en op gitaar(toen nog wel)

                                           Ballad Of A Thin Man

 "Ballad of a Thin Man" is a song written and recorded by Bob Dylan, and released as the final track on Side One of his sixth album, Highway 61 Revisited in 1965.

performed 400 shows with Bob Dylan over five years, traveling the world 10 times over. Watson energized Dylan fans and Bob Dylan himself with his joyful and dynamic drumming style, as he helped launch Dylan's "Never Ending Tour" in 1992 that continues to this day

Gelegenheid om bandleden Radoslav Lorković (piano,accordeon) en John Inmon te laten exelleren.

 De covers zijn meestal van Bob Dylan ,maar tot mijn grote verrassing werd de avond geopend met een Neil Young nummer Journey Through The Past in een bijzonder mooie uitvoering.
