Enkele hoogtepunten uit het optreden van The Allman Brothers in het legendarische programma "Ohne Filter" op 5 Juli 1991.Vier originele leden van de band zijn van de partij, Gregg Allman (vocalen en orgel),Dicky Betts (gitaar),Butch Trucks (drums)Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums), aangevuld met de fantastische Warren Haynes(Gitaar en zang) en Allen Woody(bass)De laatste twee zouden we later weer tegen komen in die andere prachtige band Gov,t Mule


Stateboro Blues
Statesboro Blues" is een song van Blind Willie McTell die refereert aan de stad Statesboro in Georgia. Door veel artiesten gecoverd maar deze versie kwam op plaats 9 van het muziekblad ,,Rolling Stone,, op de lijst van ,,100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time ,,

De band werd in 1969 opgericht door Duane Allman (gitaar), Gregg Allman (vocalen en orgel), Dicke Betts (gitaar), Berry Oakley (basgitaar), Butch Trucks (drums) en Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums).


Kind Of Bird
Geschreven door Warren Haynes en Dickey Betts.Beide liefhebbers van de muziek van Charlie Parker (nickname,,Bird,,)

In maart 1971 speelde de band enkele malen in de Fillmore East. Deze optredens zijn opgenomen en te horen op hun derde album, de dubbel-LP At Filmore East. Het album werd een doorslaand succes en groeide uit tot een klassieker, die wordt beschouwd als een van de beste live- en bluesrock-albums allertijden.


Jessica
Dickey Betts jongste dochter heet Jessica,schreef het nummer toen hij haar op eenjarige leeftijd door de kamer zag kruipen

Op 29 oktober 1971, niet lang nadat At Filmore East de gouden status had verworven, kwam Duane Allman in een motorongeluk om het leven. Ondanks het verlies van de leadman besloot de band toch door te gaan en de opnames van het vierde album af te maken. Dickey Betts nam de rol van Duane over op Eat a Peach. Na enkele optredens als een vijfkoppige band werd er besloten weer een zesde lid en een nieuw muzikant toe te voegen aan de band. Het werd pianist Chuck Leavell.


Whippin Post
Whipping Post" is gesschreven door Gregg Allman,de originele versie staat op het debuutalbum The Allman Brothers Band.Maar de mooiste versie staat op het dubbel album live At Fillmore East,een versie van 23 minuten (een hele plaatkant)

In 1976 viel de band uit elkaar, toen Gregg Allman werd opgepakt voor meerdere drugs-gerelateerde misdrijven en getuigde tegen een vriend en medewerker van de band. Leavell, Johanson en Williams vormden samen de band Sea Level, en Betts ging verder met zijn solo-carrière. Capricorn bracht hierna enkele albums uit met nog niet eerder uitgebracht materiaal en live-opnames, waaronder Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas.


Ramblin Man
Geschreven door Dickey Betts, komt van het album Brothers and Sisters en gebazeerd op een nummer van Hank Williams uit 1951.Het was hun eerste en enige top 10 single
(nr 2 in de Billboard Hot 100 chart)

Pas in 1989 kwam de groep weer bij elkaar, mede door het succes van een uit vier cd's bestaande compilatiealbum, uitgebracht door PolyGram. De band was niet compleet: Leavell was op tournee met de Rolling Stones en Williams was in 1983 gestorven aan kanker. De band werd aangevuld met gitarist Warren Haynes en bassist Allen Woody. De groep sloot een contract met Epic Records en bracht in 1990 het album Seven Turns uit, dat zeer goed werd ontvangen bij critici en hun bestverkopende album in jaren werd.

Ook Oakley kwam om bij een motor ongeluk,een jaar na het fatale ongeval van Douane.

Bruce Cockburn - If I Had A Rocket Launcher

Bruce Douglas Cockburn is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist. His song styles range from folk to jazz-influenced rock and his lyrics cover a broad range of topics that reveal a passion for human rights, environmental issues, politics, and spirituality.

The song was inspired by Cockburn's visit, sponsored by Oxfam, to Guatemalan refugee camps in Mexico following the counterinsurgency campaign of dictator Efraín Ríos Montt.[1] Although Cockburn had occasionally touched on political themes in his earlier songs, "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" was his first explicitly political song to be released as a single, and earned him a new reputation as an outspoken musical activist.
In the song, Cockburn despairs of waiting for a political solution to the crisis, and expresses the desire to take matters into his own hands. Each verse ends with a line stating what Cockburn would do if he had a rocket launcher: in the first verse, I'd make somebody pay. In the second, I would retaliate. In the third, I would not hesitate.
The fourth and final verse ends with the song's most famous and controversial lyric: If I had a rocket launcher, some son-of-a-bitch would die.

Bob Dylan at the The Todaiji Temple Nara Japan May 22nd 1994

The Great Music Experience was a concert starring Japanese and international musicians staged at the eighth century Buddhist temple of Todai-ji, in Nara, Japan in May 1994. The concert, held over three nights and part-backed by Unesco, took place in front of the world's largest wooden building, housing the largest Buddha statue in the world. Ring Them Bells The Todai-Ji concert brought together Japanese and Western musicians playing music showing the influences of both cultures. The musicians included Bob Dylan, Jon Bon Jovi, Joni Mitchell and INXS. Dylan played in front of the Tokyo New Philharmonic orchestra, the first time he had played with an orchestra. Ii,ts A Hard Rain Gonna Fall The star of the show turned out to be Dylan who said as soon as he came off-stage that he had not sung so well for 15 years. Dylan opened with A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall which Q magazine said was "no ordinary version...[he] really opens his lungs and heart and sings, like he's not done for many a year...The only word for it majestic." "Every Grain of Sand" is a song written by Bob Dylan, recorded in Los Angeles in the spring of 1981 and released in August of that year on Dylan's album Shot of Love. It was subsequently included on the compilation Biograph. An early version of the song, recorded in September 1980 and featuring Jennifer Warnes on backing vocal, was released in 1991 on The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961-1991. Bob Dylan - Gonna Serve Somebody (Saturday Night Live)

                                  Slow Train Coming is the nineteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on August 20, 1979 by Columbia Records. It was the artist's first effort since becoming a born-again Christian, and all of the songs either express his strong personal faith, or stress the importance of Christian teachings and philosophy. The evangelical nature of the record alienated many of Dylan's existing fans; at the same time, many Christians were drawn into his fan base. On the evening of November 4, 1961, 10 months after arriving in New York and nine days after signing with Columbia Records, Bob Dylan performed 22 songs at Carnegie Chapter Hall in New York City



Dylan had been making a reasonable name for himself in the folk community around NYC’s Greenwich Village since his arrival in the city, and had achieved good reviews playing in the area’s coffee bars and folk cellars, most notably from Robert Shelton on the New York Times.

, geboren als Robert Allen Zimmerman (Hebreeuws: Shabtai Zisel ben Avraham) (Duluth, Minnesota, 24 mei 1941) is een Joods-Amerikaans popmusicus. Hij wordt beschouwd als een van de grootste songwriters van Amerika. Veel mensen beschouwen hem als de eerste singer-songwriter. Hij heeft een oeuvre bij elkaar gespeeld dat op één lijn wordt gesteld met dat van Stephen Foster, Irving Berlin, Woody Guthrie en Hank Williams, die deel uitmaken van het Amerikaanse culturele erfgoed.




Dylans carrière begon in het midden van de jaren vijftig, nog in zijn middelbare schooltijd. Getting back to the yellow railroad, that could be from looking someplace. Being a performer, you travel the world. You're not just looking out of the same window everyday. You're not just walking down the same old street. So you must make yourself observe whatever. But most of the time it hits you. You don't have to observe. It hits you. Like, "yellow railroad" could have been a blinding day when the sun was so bright on a railroad someplace and it stayed on my mind.... These aren't contrived images. Dylan heeft "Sweet Marie" tot aan 1988 zelden live gespeeld,tijdens zijn MTV unplugged optreden kwam het nummer weer bovendrijven en sinds die tijd staat het nummer weer regelmatig op de setlist.

"Obviously 5 Believers" werd niet gespeeld tijdens Dylan's 1966 tour, en zelfs tot aan 1995 zelden live opgevoerd,daarna duik het regelmatig in setlists op.

"Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)" was meestal de opening en de toegift tijdens de Bob Dylan and The Band 1974 Tour. een van deze opnames werd gebruikt als openingstrack voor het live album Before the Flood. Al single werd het geen succes, #66 op de Billboard Hot 100.

"They'll stone you" in elk complet van de song, plus het refreine "Well, I would not feel so all alone--everybody must get stoned!"was aanleiding voor verschillende Amerikaanse radiostations en deBBC het nummer te verbannen. Ze beschouwden het als een "drugsong":

Er zijn verschillende theorieen wie of wat er metJohanna bedoelt is:
1 Het gaat over Joan Baez 2 Het heeft verband met "Gehenna" en "Ge-Hinnom", een Hebreeuws woord voor hel.3 Vincent van Gogh'schoonzus Johanna Gezina van Gogh (Bonger), die mede verantwoordelijk was voor de uiteindelijke totstandkoming van Vincent's als belangrijk kunstenaar.4 Johanna verwijst naar ''oneindig'' of naar'' god'' 5 Het verwijst naar een gedicht van William Blake's "On the Virginity of the Virgin Mary & Johanna Southcott".

Blonde on Blonde wordt door velen beschouwd als het absolute culminatiepunt binnen Dylans komeetachtige ontwikkeling als jaren zestig popmuzikant. Het album vormt de afsluiting van een immer creatievere, surrealistische en rockende Bob Dylan. De artiest dreigt in deze tijd -zowel voor als na de opnames voor Blonde on Blonde- en ondanks of juist mede dankzij de speed, uitgeput te raken en elk moment uit de bocht te vliegen.

"I Want You" is een van de weinige songs waar nu eens niet door de recenten over werd gediscuseerd.Maar het was wel een van zijn meest succesvolle singles.

Het 'afscheidsconcert' van The Band, de legendarische groep die zowel als 'the band' van Bob Dylan furore maakte, als op eigen houtje. Het concert vond plaats op 25 november 1976 in San Francisco. The Band (Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel en Robbie Robertson) trad op met een pleiade van 'special guests', onder wie Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, Bobby Charles en Neil Young. De concertbeelden worden aangevuld met interviews van Scorsese met de Band-leden. Voor mij een van de hoogtepunten..

"Forever Young" is recorded in California in November 1973. The song first appeared (in two different versions, a slow and a fast) on Dylan's 1974 album Planet Waves.

Bob Dylan - Lonesome Death of Hatty Carroll (Montfort Hall Leicester 2Mei 1965)


 Het was een geruchtmakende zaak in 1963,de 27 jarige (blanke) William Devereux "Billy" Zantzinger sloeg de (zwarte)barkeepster Hattie Carroll onder het roepen van rasistische kreten op haar hoofd omdat hij vond dat hij niet snel genoeg geholpen werd.
De vrouw kwam te overlijden en Billy werd veroordeeld tot 6 maanden gevangenisstraf.
Belachelijk kort natuurlijk ,maar de oorzaak was waarschijnlijk dat Zantzinger behoorde tot de rijkere ,,upperclass,,Bob Dylan schreef al snel naar aanleiding van deze zaak dit nummer nam het ook gelijk op in zijn live repetoire. In 1964 nam hij het op voor het Album "The Times They Are a-Changin'"

Bob Dylan - The Usual (The Town House, Studio 2, London, UK; August 27-28, 1986)

    
Hearts of Fire is a 1987 American musical drama film starring Bob Dylan, Fiona Flanagan (billed only as "Fiona") and Rupert Everett. The film was essentially a vehicle for Dylan based on his success as a rock musician. It received poor reviews, a limited theatrical release and was later written off by Dylan himself.

 In 1987, Columbia Records released the soundtrack to the film. Dylan was apparently originally contracted to write and contribute four new original recordings to the album, but would only turn in two original songs and one cover tune. The tracks included a cover of John Hiatt's "The Usual," along with the Dylan originals "Night After Night" and "Had a Dream About You Baby." Dylan would later release an alternate version of "Had a Dream About You Baby" on the 1988 album Down in the Groove.

Thanks to rumours that one or all of The Beatles would be joining him on stage,Dylan's comeback show had now been, in the words of music journalist John Harris, "inflated into the gig of the decade". On 31 August, a nervous Bob Dylan arrived on stage in a cream suit recalling Hank Williams, with a haircut and a short beard.

Backed by The Band, he performed recent pieces from his Nashville Skyline and John Wesley Harding albums as well as countryfied versions of earlier songs such as "Maggie's Farm", "Highway 61 Revisited" and "Like a Rolling Stone"− much to the surprise and consternation of the audience and the throng of journalists. Levon Helm later commented: "Bob had an extra list of songs with about eight or ten different titles ... that we would've gone ahead and done had it seemed like the right thing to do. But it seemed like everyone was a bit tired ... the festival was three days old by then."

  John Lennon opined that Dylan's performance was reasonable, though slightly flat; and that the audience was "waiting for Godot or Jesus". Eric Clapton was mesmerized, however, having already been inspired back to blues and country post-Cream by Dylan's change of musical direction and by The Band's album Music From Big Pink. "Dylan was fantastic," Clapton later said. "He changed everything ... [The audience] couldn't understand it. You had to be a musician to understand it." Another vocal champion of The Band and avowed Dylan fan, George Harrison wrote a country song inspired by the event and dedicated to Dylan, "Behind That Locked Door", later released on his All Things Must Pass triple album. Folk singer Tom Paxton has referred to the "negative reaction in the British press", including "downright fabrications: like saying he had run off stage half-way through. ... I went with him and The Beatles to the farmhouse where he was clearly in a merry mood because he had felt it had gone so well ... The Beatles had brought a test pressing of Abbey Road and we listened to it and had quite a party."(Wikipedia)

 Dylan discusses the recording of New Morning at length in one chapter of his autobiography, Chronicles, Vol. 1. Several alternate, preliminary forms of the album have been documented, including tracks which later appeared on the 1973 Dylan. He has played only four of the album's twelve songs in concert; one, "If Dogs Run Free", made its live debut on October 1, 2000, within weeks of the 30th anniversary of the album's original release

Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan - One Too Many Mornings

 During Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline sessions country legend Johnny Cash stopped by to visit. A friend and label-mate of Dylan's as well as an early supporter of his music, Cash had been recording next door with his own band. The two wound up recording a series of duets, covering Dylan's "One Too Many Mornings" and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" as well as Cash's own "I Still Miss Someone." None of these were deemed usable, but Cash returned the following day to record more duets.

"One Too Many Mornings" is a song by Bob Dylan, released on his third studio album The Times They Are a-Changin' in 1964.

      "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" is a song written and performed by Bob Dylan and featured on his Bringing It All Back Home album, released on March 22, 1965 by Columbia Records (see 1965 in music). The song was recorded on January 15, 1965 with Dylan's acoustic guitar and harmonica and William E. Lee's bass guitar the only instrumentation. The lyrics were heavily influenced by Symbolist poetry and bid farewell to the titular "Baby Blue." There has been much speculation about the real life identity of "Baby Blue", with possibilities including Joan Baez, David Blue, Paul Clayton, Dylan's folk music audience, and even Dylan himself
